WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A campaign worker for President Bush (news - web sites) said on Thursday American workers unhappy with low-quality jobs should find new ones -- or pop a Prozac to make themselves feel better.

"Why don't they get new jobs if they're unhappy -- or go on Prozac?" said Susan Sheybani, an assistant to Bush campaign spokesman Terry Holt.

The comment was apparently directed to a colleague who was transferring a phone call from a reporter asking about job quality, and who overheard the remark.

When told the Prozac comment had been overheard, Sheybani said: "Oh, I was just kidding."

While recent employment growth has buoyed Bush's economic record, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) has argued the new jobs are not as good as those lost due to outsourcing in recent years.

That assistant and the potty-mouthed convention director may be on the same unemployment line. You have to be very careful what you say around media types.

"Compassionate conservativism" in action.....this is straight out of Bob Roberts.

One thing I'm glad to hear about is that Bush has decided to go along with some of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. If there's one thing Bush needs, it's an "intelligence advisor."

How is Bush responsible for "outsourcing"? It's the individual company's decision to seek employers willing to work at lower wages. If anything, Bush has tried to prevent outsourcing by cutting taxes on businesses to make it easier for them to keep a profit.

How is Bush responsible for "outsourcing"?

By doing nothing to counter legislation which rewards corporations for sending jobs to foreign countries and, conversely, by doing nothing to reward the same corporations for keeping jobs in America.

By implementing economic policies which amount to little more than corporate welfare, e.g., allowing corporations to move offshore in order to avoid paying taxes.

If anything, Bush has tried to prevent outsourcing by cutting taxes on businesses to make it easier for them to keep a profit.

Yes, with those big fat tax cuts lavished upon them by AWOL Boy, these corporations have doubled and, in some cases, tripled their profits over the past three years.

With these sorts of huge increases in profits and huge decrease in taxes, those same corporations could have hired a lot of American workers.

Too bad they did no such thing.

Instead, they have laid record numbers of workers off while giving their CEOs gigantic raises.

If anything, Bush has tried to prevent outsourcing by cutting taxes on businesses to make it easier for them to keep a profit.

The IRS released a report indicating that some 87% of small business owners made less than $200,000 per year. These business owners have not benefitted from Smirk's tax cuts for the super-wealthy.

If anything, Bush has tried to prevent outsourcing by cutting taxes on businesses to make it easier for them to keep a profit.

Replace the word "businesses" in the foregoing sentence with "working and middle-class Americans," and it instantly becomes a false statement.

It also illustrates why Smirk's economic policies are wrong for America.
