View Full Version : How long have you been married?

DenFan's single thread got me curious as to how long OM members have been married. I saw some responses over there for the married column, but I know there's a lot more married people out there. So how long for the rest of you?
I've been married for 8 1/2 years, 3 kids. My theory there is take the 8 1/2 and multiply it by the 3 and the number you get there represents how long it FEELS like you've been married. ;)

We're doing just that - At 10 years we are renewing our vows and having the formal wedding we didn't do before. During the reception we're planning on dancing to the Gipsy Kings version of "My Way" as a subtle b*tch slap and told you so.

Someone mentioned it in another thread the first 3-5 years are the hardest. Once you make it past that it becomes awesome. Not that the first years are not.
I dated my wife on and off for a couple years. We would get togather and then have huge ugly break ups. When we told everyone we were getting married most laughed but once we did get hitched we have never had a problem. The nay sayers can kiss my a**

I have been married to the most beautiful woman for the past five years. We have a son who is 10 months old. The last 10 months have been hard for us as our son was diagnosed with having had a stroke before he was born, but I can confidently say that we are together for the long haul now. If either of us wanted an excuse to end it, we would have done it by now believe me.

You have to spend money on women. Whether you are married or no. The things you spend money on for women may change when you are married, but they are sucking the money out of your wallet faster than you can work to put it in there regardless.

I've been married for 5 years, 1 month, and 2 days. We dated for 7 years. I proposed in St. Louis during the last weekend of baseball. We watched the Cardinals series, and McGwire hit 67, 68, 69, and his 70th homeruns. The million dollar ball (70) landed two sections from me in left field. What a weekend to remember!
Oh yeah, and the Broncos won the Super Bowl during our engagement. Fun times!

Since then we are up to 2 cats, 2 dogs, and ya'll know about the goats. Starting a new fencing project tomorrow so I'll be able to add a horse!
For now pets are a good supplement for kids for us. I'm sure some of you parents would disagree. I'm sure we'll have some Mecks in due time. I need to spread my sead before too long. I gotta make a little Broncos fan so I have someobody to pass along the tailgate vehcile to!

Old Dude & Meck77-- Thanks for the kind words, 57 does sound like a long time, but I'll tell you, it has gone by in a hurry. Both my wife and I are grads of Okla. Univ. and was in school during the Bud Wilkinson era. So far a great life, will be 82 in December and am holding out for another Super Bowl by the Broncos.
Yes, our boys own Harmels now. Deeded it to them a couple of years ago. They have done wonders with the fishing on our stretch of water. Game and Fish Dept claims the trout population is about 12 times the normal for the rest of the Taylor River, except for a piece of private property up river. If you like to fish, look at their Web sight. www.Harmels.com. Thanks again guys, you are very kind to this old geezer.

Meet her on a pacific rim trip back in late '99. Nothing like a good place to start dating like Sydney Australia. Took her on a dinner cruise through Sydney Harbor and went to a symphony at the Opera House for the first date and since then she's been mine. Dated for three years before getting married (both were in school and it wasn't worth the hassel). Been married for 2 years and its been the best time of my life. Going on a vacation to Europe tomorrow actually to celebrate our anniversary so I won't be back till mid July.
My wife can be summed up by this excerpt from a song...
"She's a lady in the street, but a freak in the bed." Nothing like a good lovin' women to make a guy feel better about himself. I'll be in a pissy ass mood or something else and one look from her and everything else is meaningless.
I have no idea why she loves me, likes me, or even tolerates me. But I'm going to live it up till she figures out she can do a lot better.

oh please.
i just hope they dont kill eachother when that phase ends in about five minutes.
just kidding, i couldnt resist the sarcasm thats been so prevalent on these threads.
marriage can be Gods most wonderful gift if both people are equally devoted and loving.
....too bad my wife's neither!!
okay, im kidding again.
in all truth, marriage is a gift, and i pray that more people will start to see that and act accordingly.

We was at my mother in laws house , and everyone was talking , and my Mother in law said , I wiegh 155 Pounds , and for some idiotic reason , I said , with those hips , I was thinking 170+ ...... The Shiat hit the Fan
I'd pay money to see that Live! Classic. If they can't take the joke... then just make it more often. They'll get used to it eventually. My wife doesn't even ask me about stuff like that anymore because she knows she will hate the answer :poke:

I just had my 7th anniversary. Two kids (5 and 1). Guess I'm a newbie on this thread.
And for those reading this... that is my son on my Avatar. He was born about an hour after Q fumbled against J'ville last September. What a rollercoaster day. I knew he was a Bronco fan because he waited to come until the game was done (my poor wife). Maybe it was because the hospital staff was watching the game :kiddingme

ok, you won't be able to handle this type of lifestyle. it's non conformist. been married thrice. each time to the most beautiful woman in the world. lasted over 10 years each time. love them all dearly. have two kids. greatest in the world. almost. am serially monogamous. totally. but have outgrown each in their time, or they me. who knows. all i know is that marriage keeps getting better n better. I've been married for 8 1/2 years, 3 kids. My theory there is take the 8 1/2 and multiply it by the 3 and the number you get there represents how long it FEELS like you've been married. ;)
2 years 3 months, 1 daughter and a boy/girl due in late October (going to see how long I can go without knowing). My wife and I only dated for about a month before we started talking about "the deed," but didn't do it until 6 months into the relationship. Strange.

For all those in this thread claiming to be happily married props to you.
Personally, being a near lifetime Socal the thought of settling down with so many loose ****dolls running around this town is just not realistic.
Besides, I have many friends that are or were married and to a man they either are divorced or miserable.
Community property also presents and interesting dilemma in my decision as I own my own tech business and am in no hurry to half it.
Someday? Maybe....probably..who wants to grow old alone right?
But not now, or in the near future, or the foreseeable future. :giggle:

just do better a better job at it than "help each other out around the house"..she suggested cooking, laundry etc and I said that "I did"....ex agreed "he does"....the compulsive spending when she got depressed (from her fathers recent death) was never addressed...anyone can get a psychology degree, being a good psych takes a lot more...btw, that psych didn't make much off of me after the first visit because of her approach....she sounded naive

I have run into a few poor ones, just like I have run into some even worse Physicians. Especially surgeons. This is your life and you have to run it. The most important decisions are about your own well being and not the house, investments, or car. Physicians and Mental health care Professionals are not equal.
Beware anyone who thinks medication can help on the initial consult! It takes several sessions before a thorough asessment can be done.
