Post article right after the game had a quote from him saying "I was scared for a minute," Stewart said. "I have two weeks to recover, so I'll be back then. I have strength in it. It's just something I have to keep an eye on."

And I stand by my Light Rail to King Soopers scoop that Ware just has a knee bruise. (He really did tell my buddy that on Monday.)

Nice! That is Jim Beam "Distiller's Masterpiece" bourbon. It goes for about $250-300. Never had it, but I have had $300 tequila a few years ago(Herredura Seleccion Suprema, now $400), and it was so smooth, so good, it was not a good thing because it was so addicting. We used to call it heroin in a bottle. :)

I haven't discovered an app cool enough to violate the 100 post rule, so I thought I would post in this thread, although it is slightly offtopic.

This time last year, there was a lot of talk about which of our assistants were interviewing where. Del Rio got pre and post game BJs from Mark Davis on our last regular season game. Gase interviewed somewhere. I'm sure John Fox was texting with Chicago. This year, none of that distraction.

New England, on the other hand, has both McDaniels and Patricia interviewing and one has to figure at least McDaniels lines up a job.

I realize Denver has a whole other kind of distraction this year with Peyton/Brock talk. Hopefully it isn't as destructive.

Phillips won't get another head coaching shot, and hopefully we can hang onto him for a long time a stable, successful coordinator would be amazing. If Denver had lured Vance Joseph and the defense performed like this, you got to believe he'd get some interviews during a bye week.

McDaniels isn't interviewing, although like last year, claims plenty of interest. Weird since they have no game this week. If true and if he wants one of these jobs he probably should take one before the Brady decline.

Wait, what? Michael Schofield sees ghosts. He has 6 senses.

Yeah he's precognitive...he sees dead QBs...but its because HE gets them killed.

"However, Broncos offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, who has been a longtime offensive line coach in his career, said he still has seen “some improvement" in Schofield, who figures to be challenged by opposing defensive coordinators in whatever becomes of the Broncos’ postseason.

Asked if Schofield’s struggles have been related to technique or confidence, Dennison said, "A little bit of both, I think, but he still has shown some improvement. He did some good stuff. Like I said, in the run game he did a good job. There were a couple (pass protections) and he was in fine shape. His hands were in a good spot. Then he drifts and something happens. Maybe he’s seeing ghosts or something. We just have to get him settled and then keep working with him because he has a lot of talent."

Broncos ready to flex defensive muscle on playoff stage

"The Denver Broncos defense is one week away from its debut on the stage it wants, perhaps needs, to prove its point.

“We’re motivated to win the Super Bowl," said cornerback Chris Harris Jr. “We know the season’s over with, all this stuff, really, it’s a great accomplishment, but we want the Super Bowl."

And one of their top motivations? The team was No. 1 in total defense, No. 1 in pass defense, No. 1 in sacks, No. 1 in fewest yards allowed per play, No. 1 in fewest yards allowed per rush, No. 1 in fewest yards allowed per pass, No. 3 in run defense and No. 4 in scoring defense. Yet, the group of players and coaches that made it happen have not received much national love.

They had four players on defense named to the Pro Bowl -- Harris, Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib -- but just one first-team All Pro selection in Miller. And only Harris was a second-team All Pro selection.

“You’ve got the No. 1 defense, you should have had more Pro Bowl players, more All-Pro players," Miller said.

“You have No. 1 defense, No. 1 pass defense and only get one All Pro? I mean, that’s very suspect right there," Harris said.

The Broncos, as the No. 1 seed in the AFC, will have gone through three practices in the bye when Saturday's work is done, but the team’s defense wants the opportunity to win friends and influence people in the postseason.

“The most important (award) is the Super Bowl, and that’s what we’re going to get," Miller said.

Phillips said Friday that the lack of Broncos defenders in some of the postseason awards would get the attention of some of the players -- “they take it personal." But all in all, the Broncos say their eyes are on the bigger prize.

“I mean now we can say that's pretty much, I guess, like the preseason," said defensive end Malik Jackson. “It happened, it was cool, but now it's time to really get focused on these last three games one week at a time. You look at it, we look at all the accolades we got, all the accomplishments we made, but nobody remembers you if you lose in the second round, so we've just got to keep going and make it last."

I was thinking the same thing, but I know Kubes said he changed things up from usual bye week schedule. He gave everyone off to begin the week, then brought them back to end it. He didn't want them to have a long weekend, but they will get Sunday off.

He said each day was devoted to one of the potential 3 opponents. I like that. I dunno, and maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I have a feeling that the team, led by Peyton, is going to come out next Sunday and play like they did against GB. Just a hunch.

Its the first day of the week, so I doubt it means much, but Oz being gimpy is crappy to see. We might very well need both QB's to get through the playoffs.

Also, Polumbus sucks too, so we can rotate through them on gameday. Just keep them fresh as possible I suppose would be the best option.

Why is this coaching staff so stuck on Schofield

Dennison said in his presser that they feel Schofield has a lot of talent, plays the run well, does well on pass protection but has mental lapses. He said maybe he sees ghosts. Non the less the coaching staff are high on Schofield and are going to stick with him. They think he has a bright future according to the pressers

He can play in the future then. They said Brock has a bright future as well, and looks where he is. Hypocrisy everywhere. If you are playing the guys that you think give you the best chance to win now....****ing play all of them. It's not time to learn on the job right?

We have a RT who literally cannot block anyone and a qb who gave away picks like they were going out of style when he last started

FML

Schofield single handedly torpedoed our offense last game
I cannot believe he is still even consideration for a starting spot

Look, I get the Schofield hate, I really do; he flat out sucks against good pass rushers. However, that statement has no basis in reality at all. 5 turn-overs torpedoed the offense last game. You could put maybe 1 of those t/o's on Schofield, and that was Brock's 2nd int. But Brock has to take some responsibility for it as well.

They absolutely had no problem moving the ball when Schofield was in the game, but t/o's killed them. Brock himself says it is he, as a QB, who is responsible for the offense, good or bad. And that is how the coaches and team looks at it also.

All that said, maybe Kubes will rotate Schofield & Polumbus depending on series and match ups.

Yeah ghost of his dead career. He's really refined getting turned around by pass rushers to an altogether new technique of ass-blocking.

If the Broncos coaching staff wants to sacrifice a legitimate shot at the championship to play this loser. That's on them. Everyone in the country knows he'll never be anything.

Yep..as I have said before if the national media are aware of your right tackle it is a big issue -

"Broncos' weak link could shorten Peyton Manning's last run

Peyton Manning's last playoff run could boil down to the play of a second-year right tackle.

In fact, it won't matter if Manning starts or sits if Michael Schofield flops. His past struggles have held the entire Denver Broncos offense hostage.

It was Schofield, not Manning or Brock Osweiler, who was most culpable for the team's last home loss. Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack toyed with the Michigan product to the tune of four sacks.

Head coach Gary Kubiak pulled Schofield in Week 17 when he surrendered too many pressures to San Diego's Melvin Ingram. Yet his replacement, Tyler Polumbus, won't start on Sunday in their biggest game yet.

Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, via ESPN: "In the run game he did a good job. There were a couple (pass protections) and he was in fine shape. His hands were in a good spot. Then he drifts and something happens. "

It'll be up to Schofield to make sure nothing happens against the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers. Manning's playoff fate -- and postseason legacy -- could depend on it"

Don't underestimate the effect on morale that leaving Schofield in their has on the team and it's fans. The first shot that Schofield gives up on Manning, the fans will want to have Kubiak's head. And it will only get worse from there. The only sace that Kubiak has, is that the Steelers LoLB is not very good.

Yes. You cannot underestimate the detrimental impact that Schofield has had on this Offense throughout the season. When you start adding up the numbers of whiffs he's had both against the pass and run, it's astronomical. And dwarfs the miscues by any other OL. People think he's good in the running game but he's not. He has at least a handful of missed blocks run blocking in every single game, as well.

Monumental mistake by the Broncos coaching staff and/or Elway. Heads will roll.

Look at you guys.. Getting so worked up over complex issues that are 100% out of your control, and also oversimplifying them so that they fit conveniently into your small minds.

Do you honestly think that you know more about who should start at RT than Kubiak, Dennision, and the rest of the staff? It's like Peyton says, "You think you know, but you don't."

If they are putting their jobs on the line (which is what they do with every decision they make) by putting Schofield in there over Polumbus, what does that tell you? I think you would be better served trying to figure out why they would make the decision rather than blowing hot air in agony over it.

The only thing I can fathom, is that they desperately want to keep Schofield at RT so that they can keep Sambrailo at LT, and cut Clady. Thereby saving $10M in cap space next year, while making themselves look like 'geniuses' for being great coaches.

And they are willing to sacrifice this season to do it.

Kubs must be pulling a Belicheat* move here "starting" Schofiled. that and/or Green is going to be attached at the hip.

That's what I am hoping for. Maybe Kubes really is a diabolical mastermind, after all? Maybe he's just pulling a "rope a dope."

Maybe he starts Schofeild just to give their pass rushers overconfidence, then replaces him with Polumbus who may, or may not, be only marginally better.

I'm just glad we didn't trade for Joe Thomas. He wouldn't have beaten out Harris anyways.

LOL nice. In reality, Polumbus is pretty poor himself, so this decision isn't as heinous as you all are making it out to be. It is what it is. I'm sure that in game adjustments will be made when required.

That is crazy talk, no way in hell Elway would allow that and the first year coach Kubiak woulnd never do that anyway.

Dennison probably told Elway before the season that he could turn Schofield into gold just so he could become Offensive Coordinator. Now he feels obligated to do it, otherwise he'll lose his job. Dennison is worthless.

You know how those guys are. Shelley Smith made the final roster for god sakes.

You realize coaches can be wrong all the time too right? Don't give me this "they know it's the right decision cause their jobs are on the line" bull****.

We are playing Peyton, who gets rid of the ball lightning fast. Schofield must be the better run blocker, and Peyton compensates for his pass blocking troubles.

Looks like big ben is going to be severely limited.

In a radio interview, Ben Roethlisberger said he has torn ligaments in his right (throwing) shoulder in addition to a sprained AC joint.
ESPN's Bob Holtzman reported Monday Roethlisberger is "very likely" to play Sunday against the Broncos, but Roethlisberger did not sound as sure in the interview. He will certainly be limited even if he suits up. Likely without Antonio Brown (concussion), unable to push the ball downfield and playing against the best defense in the league, Roethlisberger will struggle to move the ball. It could be a long day for Pittsburgh. Jan 12 - 11:41 AM

You bring up a good point. While Kubiak makes game day choices on the roster, not Elway, Elway still has some influence and isn't afraid to tell his HC when he thinks a change needs to be done.Remember when he had to practically beg Gase to run the ball last year?

With that said, there is no doubt he sees the same thing we all do with Schofield. If so, why isn't he telling Kubes to bench him and play Polumbus? I'll tell you why, because he knows that Kubiak is limited in replacing him.

Otherwise, I think Elway would have went to Kubiak a long time ago and insisted that he replace Schofield. But he didn't(as far as we know) because he sees the situation from Kubiak's point of view, and the fact that this mess with the OL is as much Elways fault as it is Kubiak's.

Which brings up one last question--why is Elway getting a pass on all this Schofield crap? After all, it was his draft choice, not Kubiak's.

You know what terrifies me? It feels like we are being lulled into a false sense of security by all of this injury talk. Of course playing against a hobbled Ben and no Antonio Brown sounds easy. They are missing a decent HB too? Even better. But here's the part that really scares me.. Can you imagine the full-throated, sack massaging suck job that the announcers are going to give Big Ben if he is able to overcome all of this and somehow make some of the best throws of his life against "the best defense in the NFL?"

It's all coming together perfectly for him. All the chips are being stacked against him. And isn't Ben just the kind of quarterback who gets through something like this? For that matter, aren't the Steelers as a franchise built for this situation? I don't like this at all. The only thing that can save us is an even better story.

A swan song of epic proportions. Peyton Manning, just as his greatness and integrity are being chopped to pieces, comes out and delivers for Denver, reaffirming his greatness and adding one last feather to his cap. It won't be pretty, it won't be easy, but somehow the old field general is going to do it for us. Not just against Pittsburgh but head to head with his old nemesis Tom Brady. And then in the Super Bowl. One last time. Going out on top just like the man that brought him here, just like they talked about.

We're still going with Plan A, guys. We always were.

Love it. Because it's true.

"Honestly a lot of my schemes in Madden come from what I have learned from what Peyton has done to defenses," Green said Wednesday. "You learn to understand the way Peyton thinks. He knows how to attack weaknesses and patterns. When you play with Peyton it enhances your football IQ to a whole other level."

Question and expect to be questioned: This is the operating premise at Dove Valley this week with Manning starting at quarterback. As the five-time NFL MVP walked through the locker room Wednesdsay, running back C.J. Anderson (http://www.denverpost.com/cj-anderson) apologized to Manning for a mistake on a play in practice. Manning provided an immediate explanation, using his hands to simulate the formation. Such is the attention to detail that Manning meets individually with the running backs and center Matt Paradis (http://stats.denverpost.com/football/nfl-players.aspx?page=/data/nfl/players/player40704.html).

"18 is a little more amped up, to be honest. His energy, everything," Anderson said. "He's making sure we are more dialed in during meetings, practice, knowing about something that might happen in the game. It keeps you on your toes."

Demaryius Thomas currently having discussions with his mom's Parole Officer. There may be problems with her coming to Colorado due to legal marijuana.

Not sure why he didn't get this taken care of LONG ago.

Do you have any idea how slow the legal system is?

As someone mentioned the NFL's concussion protocol is a joke. If a guy like Brown can have his lights put out yet suit up again in just one week is ridiculous. In all the other combat sports you cannot start taking sanctioned beatings again in such a short period of time. I realize in football you may go a whole game without a blow to the head but the risks are amplified. The slightest of hits (ie head bouncing off turf) can trigger further trauma to the brain. Just because a guy doesn't have a headache or can now count how many fingers are held up does not mean his brain is no longer bruised/injured.

That's assuming he had his lights put out...which if he plays this week, and what Pacman says is true, is highly doubtful.

He was never hurt as much as he play acted he was on the field.

He was confirmed to have a concussion, put in the protocol. I also understand you don't have to have the lights put out in order to have a concussion. No way should anyone in the protocol be allowed back in one week's time if the NFL was serious about the issue.

Isn't it up to the doctors? If he's cleared to play the he can play.

Understood. Just discussing the concussion issue as a larger point. I've suffered several myself. It's a nasty thing. Makes me wonder how well the medical community has a grasp on the issue.

If you can't beat a mediocre Steelers team at home, you have no chance of beating any NFC team in the Superbowl. Being scared of Brown is pointless. Might as well get a better draft pick.
