View Full Version : Super Bowl XLVII thread

Really sucks that the best team in the NFL is not playing, but it is the last meaningful football game for nearly 6 months, so I figured it deserved a game thread.

Who to root for?

Don't like either team, but I do like some of the players. I like the two qb's Kaepernick and Flacco. I like Ray Rice (NOT the other thug Ray). I will have to root for the Ravens though. I just can't stand the thought of the 49ers winning another Super Bowl. If they win, that will be their 6th Super Bowl win with none lost. Really DON'T want that to happen. Besides, I want Denver to eventually be at the top of the Super Bowl standings at some point in my life.

Why didn't #29 for Baltimore get ejected for shoving a ref 5 yards down the field?

I rewound it and watched that again, #29 was down in that scrum, got up and immediately shoved a referee 5 yards, I thought maybe it was accidental and the ref was just there, but a couple moments later, #29 had his finger in the refs face arguing something.

And it wasn't even him called in one of the offsetting fouls.

Ya I know. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but they are defiantly pulling a bettis for ray lewis.

Several posters have been saying this for weeks but got mocked for it. Like I said before, you don't have to blatantly fix a game. All you have to do is make sure that the refs you pick are the type who are less likely to call certain penalties, thereby giving one team an advantage. Then you have to hope that one team takes advantage of that. If they do great, if they don't, oh well, you tried. In this case, the Ravens are doing just that, like they did in Denver and to a lesser extent in Foxboro.

Forgive me, but the fact that Goodell attended all three Ravens playoff games made me raise an eyebrow. Why not at least try and look impartial by attending the Seahawks-Redskins game or the Packers-Niners game? Just odd.

LMAO and I heard on the radio some **** about the NFL reviewing and saying they only found like 4 plays throughout the whole season where they felt the flag wasn't thrown when it should have. The roll to the right was a bad move, IMO. They should have done something less predictable. SF was looking right through that whole series, but they had done well going left prior to that. Not sure if Kaepernick changed the play, he may well have, he'd been audibling a lot seems to me.

I just kinda feel bad for the Ravens because they have to pay Flacco a Peyton Manning contract (ESPN will make sure of that) when he really isn't worth it. Exactly. Another interesting loophole in the rule. As long as they held as long as they did (or longer), all they did was guarantee that at least one more play would occur. Even then, an offensive penalty doesn't usually extend a game so I'd be interested to see how that would be called.

I could be incorrect, and actually probably am. But, If the hold had been called, since the penalty happened on a scoring play, they could have opted to have them enforce the 10 yards on the kick. That extra 10 yards could have made the tee'd up free kick an actual viable outcome. I'm not sure that this is how it would be enforced or if even legal to do so...

That would, then, apply to every holding or intentional grounding safety that ever happened, right? I've never seen that called, though.

Also, since it happened in the course of the play, the options would've been to take the penalty (in the endzone so a safety) or the outcome of the play (safety but holding declined) so I don't think you can say they took the holding and the outcome of the play at the same time. I hope that makes sense.
