a really interesting article and graphics, especially looking at areas changing throughout the playoffs.

...That said, there are people out there using all our Likes and comments and preferences to look at more interesting trends. People like Sean Taylor (who actually works for fb). For instance: according to Taylor, Facebook has roughly 35 million account holders in the U.S. alone who have Liked the page of one of the National Football Leagues's 32 teams. That, he says, represents "one of the most comprehensive samples of sports fanship ever collected." All told, more than 1 in 10 Americans have declared allegiance to one NFL team or another. When he plumbed the depths of Facebook's data wells he came up with a county-by-county map of NFL fandom in the United States:

The map lends itself well to analysis. In some cases, Taylor notes, "whole states and even entire regions of the country uniformly support a single team" (looking pretty orange there, Wyoming); in others, individual states are divided against themselves (see Florida). But things get really interesting come playoff season:

Nationwide allegiances shift dramatically when you remove non-playoff teams. By early January, for example, Bronco Country had more than doubled in size. Texas, once a nearly solid greyish-purple monster, was suddenly a heterogeneous mixture of red, purple, orange and grey.

Hinsdale County is the third least densely populated of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. The county population was 843 at 2010 census.

Should be pretty easy to invade and conquer.

No orange love over here in VA (even though there's a large contingent of us... hmm).

I read through this yesterday and the one that I thought was pretty interesting was the graphic that showed "Most Common Fan Friends." Meaning, as a Broncos fan who are we more than likely to associate with when it comes to fans from other teams. Here's the result:

I spent way too long trying to figure out why there were so many Broncos fans in South Florida.

There needs to be more colors. Maybe some texturing of some sort.

the Houston metro area has over 6 million people. They don't have it bad.

Now, look at the Jets compared to the Giants. That's sad.

I'm suprised New Mexico is Cowboys country. Every time I go there, it seems mostly Broncos-oriented. Especially in Santa Fe - they have Broncos billboards and everything.

Interesting, but sort of age biased. Quite a few older Bronco fans (30s, 40s, 50s and beyond) who aren't big Facebook folk. The Northern half of New Mexico is split pretty evenly between Bronco and Cowboy fans.

That map isn't entirely accurate, from my perspective. There were PLENTY of Chiefs fans that were actively rooting AGAINST Denver, in the playoff game. So, that area didn't automatically turn orange. HOWEVER, the Green Bay concentration is the Manhattan, KS area, where Jordy Nelson played his high school and college ball. I can see THAT as being biased towards Green Bay...

I know for a fact that the Chiefs are very popular in both Oklahoma and Iowa. A lot of the people that go to the Chiefs games are Iowa Hawkeye fans.

Chiefs are also really popular in the Omaha, Nebraska area, probably because of the relationship they have with the Royals.

There are also a lot of Rams fans in OK too since Bradford is the QB.

Pueblo probably has more diehard Broncos fans than other county in the state, maybe even Denver. Moving on

Yes, I was joking. In fact, since the Broncos were born and raised in Colorado and no other teams are in the vicinity, Pueblo would jump on the Broncos bandwagon with open arms. I was just picking on an easy target without much thought of its relevance to the topic. Don't want some of you proud cultist known as Puebloites get all crazy so I figured I better come back and explain.

Bad business dealing? Not quite but that the whole city is completely "If you ain't from Pueblo, you ain't work **** to me" kind of attitude business-wise. I learned quickly from one weekend there.

And yes, that's my way of saying the Rave-hens will win.

Too big a stage for a guy with just 5 or 6 starts ... ask Super-Dan Marino how well he played after 25.

Besides, Flacco has these two incredible road playoff wins ... he was relentless going at NE's jugular the whole second half. I think he's very ready.

why are the raiders not the most popular team in their own county?

My guess is that they don't allow Facebook access in the Alameda County Prison system.

Agreed. People have been saying "He isn't ready" all season. Every week he's proved them wrong and the goalposts just keep moving.

There's no where to move them to after Sunday.

Makes me hate the Cowboys even more. The Cowboys suck, I do not understand this. Do they know Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach no longer play?
