Could we be seeing the beginning of a dynasty? If the Broncos or any team would like to duplicate the success the 9ers are having these days the first place to start is the draft. And the 9ers have been putting on a clinic the last few years on how to select future all pros.. and how you can do it out side the 1st round

Ahmad Brooks and Justin Smith are the only two of their 9 all-pros who they didnt draft and Brooks was picked off waiver.

If you nail your first round picks (and they all happen to be positions of need when BPA comes to you), you'll have a great team?

No way!

Yeah, we will get there.

Ryan Clady, Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil, Zane Beadles, Demaryius Thomas.

Couple more and another year of maturation from some bosshoggin' on candies we already got and we be the cream of the crop KC Chef moptops.

it helps to be picking in the top 11 of every round 6 out of the last 10 years

And Kaepernick will probably add his name to that list of all pro's next season. Does anyone know who the 49ers traded with to move down in the 2nd round to grab Kaep? Take a guess

Mike Nolan and Singletary did a heck of a job drafting.

I think it has more to do with Jim Harbaugh getting the most out of players. Some of those guys are from Singletary. And they didnt look all that good when he was there. It's just Jim doing what he does best.

^ great post. Strongly dislike him, but he's a fantastic coach and I'd love for him to be on our side.

We couldn't afford him anyway, and that was why Jim Harbaugh denied a request from Elway to interview for the HC job.

Yeap. It worked out for both teams. That said, can Osweiler run worth a damn? Kaepernick sure is fun to watch.

I thought it had something to do with our franchise being in the gutter at that point but maybe that's just me.

The 9ers need some defensive depth, but that's really about it. Keep in mind Mario Manningham and Kendall Hunter are out on the offense--both guys should play huge roles on the team next year. I cannot imagine a world in which Colin Kaepernick does not end up a superstar. The team will need to survive without Justin Smith (you're not replacing him) in the near future, but they ain't going anywhere.

It depends on which 49ers team shows up. Will they be the team that didn't beat the Rams in two tries? Will they be the team that was blown out 2 or 3 times this year?

I prefer reaches in the draft, huge undeserved contracts and free agency splashes....

Yeah, we couldn't meet his asking price. Harbaugh was being offered insane money by Michigan, Miami Dolphins, and the 49ers. With Bowlen paying Shanahan AND McDaniels, it didn't make sense to them to throw more money at an unproven NFL coach.

Elway also said on Thursday that the team would be limited in what it could pay its next coach because it still owes money to McDaniels and previous coach Mike Shanahan.

Lets hope that John can do build this way also and stay away from expensive UFA.. it will make us viable for a very long time..

And the Free Agents they gambled on turned out to be home runs.. Justin Smith, Carlos Rogers and Donte Whitner are all huge contributors.

With the rookie pay scale being what it is teams might be well served to up their scouting budgets and put more resources toward the draft.

I've always thought that this was the biggest area smart (and rich) teams could get ahead. I mean, why not throw a bunch of money at all the best scouts? Wouldn't you rather give that money to set up and staff a first rate department for a number of years than, say, dump it into the signing bonus for a maybe crazy guy who had a good year or two?

Well, SF traded up to Denver's #36 to get Kaepernick. Denver got SF's #45, #108, and I believe a SF 5th round.

Denver then I think traded down with Green Bay, and somehow ended up drafting Virgil Green.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but SF ended up with Kaepernick, Denver ended up with Rahim Moore, Quinton Carter, and Virgil Green. So Denver did get a Nevada-Reno player out of the SF draft trade, Kaepernick's teammate Virgil Green.

Denver traded SF's #141 in the 2011 trade to GB to move up and get Julius Thomas. I think somehow Denver still got Virgil Green out of the deal.

Ouch. It hurts to see Kaepernick as a hero in this playoff year, and among the guys we got Rahim Moore as the goat, Carter on IR, Julius Thomas, and maybe Virgil Green.

Good point and even the best scouts will be much cheaper than high level draft picks. I assume you could fund 3-5 great scouts for $1M.
