According to ESPN and Seattle 4 news, the Maloof's are about to sell the Sacramento Kings to the Hansen-Ballmer Seattle group.

Good for them. They got screwed over. Glad to see them get their team back, especially since Sacramento's fanbase is non-existent.

I cannot believe they ever lost the Sonics. They are great fans.

Are they great fans? As I recall the Seattle fans didn't give a crap about them as they were leaving...

I'm sure they will be pleased in watching tyreke evans and jimmer fredette instead of russ westbrook and KD.

Can we rename them the chronics? Better merchandising opportunities.

Stern will find a way to screw it up. He hates the Pacific Northwest.

Fanbase is non existent? Really? They've sold out every game in 17 of their 26 seasons. Hardly nonexistent considering they watched .438 win percentage. They hold 2 of the longest sell out streaks in league history. One spanning 11 years! It's not their fault the Maloofs are shrinking that fanbase over stupidity.

Might want to look at your own fanbase before discrediting another's loyalty.

Honestly, I think they should keep the name.

1. This was an original NBA franchise, and over the years they've changed the name, but kept it in the same theme by going from the Royals to the Kings

2. Seattle is in King County!

The Maloofs are strapped for cash. They've been shedding assets to keep the casinos afloat.

My nephew lives in Oklahoma City and says that for the first 2 seasons and he told me that bunches of fans from Seattle traveled to multiple home games in OKC to protest.

Psshhh. Big deal. Some people are probably just looking for excuses to travel to Oklahoma C.... sorry I just couldn't bring myself to finish typing that.

I always get a kick out of people who come into a clearly-labeled thread and post about how they don't care.

Yeah, Chief's fan comes onto a Denver Broncos football board and starts a thread about the Seattle Sonics basketball team. Sort of like getting harassed in the men's bathroom.

And that goes double for your panty-wad complaint, too.

That's a retarded statement. I live in Sac. The city LOVES the kings and they show well. When the franchise doesn't suck ass, they are one of the loudest fan-bases. The Maloofs ran their finances into the ground, and subsequently the kings and then they wanted the city to financially bail them out. It's hard getting ANYTHING passed in California on the city level in terms of stadium financing outside of Silicon Valley.

Bottom line, your assessment of Sac fans is stupid and ignorant.

I hate that we are doing this to a fanbase, it's almost like what Clay Bennett did to the Sonics fans, maybe with a little less lies and manipulation.

Watch this documentary about the whole Sonics/Clay Bennett situation. It's a crazy ride.

Rough break for Sacramento, as they have supported the team until it became obvious the owners were planning to move the team. But the league wasn't expanding, and some city was going to lose their team unfortunately

Seattle is still getting hosed. the Kings are basically a less talented Thunder before they left for OKC.
Sacramento got the shaft in this but it was likely the outcome due to the Maloofs not wanting to pony up much money for the arena due to financial issues.

Seattle fans only cared about the Sonics after the Sonics left.

Actually they didn't care much then either ... but that takes some explaining: Yes, describing the city's reaction to the move as "ho hum" would be over-dramatizing. But the apathy had nothing to do with the quality or loyalty of fans. After all, the Seahawks, Mariners and especially Sounders enjoy immense support (Sounders support is kinda scary actually*). The ho-hum reaction was merely acceptance of the inevitable. Everybody knew Key Arena had slipped over the years, and was dead last in revenue generation. Sad they bolt just as Durant joins the franchise, but the situation was unworkable.

It was fascinating watching the fans here during last year's Finals. Obviously most all of them supported the Thunder, but they took great pains to suppress that support :~ohyah!:

Looks like April 18 is the decision day for the Kings ... stay tuned.

__________

* The Seattle Sounders set new MLS attendance records in each of their three seasons ... led the league with 43,000 fans per game in 2012. Second best was Los Angeles with 23,000. That's right, 43,000 to 23,000. Go figure. Explanations vary, but demographics are NOT why, King County is just 6% Latino (6% Black, 13% Asian, 74% whitey).

The Thunder are seriously kicking some butt. I should switch to them from the hapless buttNuggets.
