Forget about why Chip Kelly will stay at Oregon for a moment. Maybe he played the NFL interest into a substantial raise funded by booster and Nike co-founder Phil Knight. Maybe he didn't get quite the concessions he wanted from pro teams. Perhaps he didn't interview too well with pro teams. Those details will start to trickle in.

Here's the immediate, obvious impact: This is enormous for the Oregon football program.

ESPN reported that Kelly had turned down the Philadelphia Eagles and decided to return to the Ducks, and The Oregonian confirmed that report through a UO source. It seemed it would take a miracle for Oregon to keep Kelly again. He had an offer from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year, and had multiple teams talk to him in the few days since the Fiesta Bowl. Oregon, aware of the possibility of Kelly leaving, had reportedly decided on a successor even before the Fiesta Bowl.

I am shocked i thought for sure he would cash in this year and make the leap to a team like the Bills.

as cool as it would be to see him in the NFL, if i was an owner i would take him off the potential list and move on, permanently. 2 years in a row of being a tease = not cool.

He'll leave right before the NCAA blows up their program over recruiting violations and improper benifits.

He would get exposed in the NFL anyway. He's got a good thing at Oregon, why leave when he can get paid the same and have more power and a lighter work load?

Smart move by Kelly. To win in the NFL, you have to have a QB. None of the teams pursuing him have a sure-fire guy, and the draft doesn't have a Luck or RGIII this year. If I'm him, I don't leave unless I get a team that either already has a good QB or are in position to draft a good one. If Rivera ends up getting fired after Carolina hires a new GM, that would be an intriguing fit. Newton is a perfect fit for his offense, and he'd have a nice stable of RBs. Of course, Jerry Richardson is really cheap, so they probably wouldn't go in that direction.

Are there really indications of this or is it just a dig at Pete Carroll?

This is the truth. He would also need a very mobile QB, not just a good QB.

Oh, and I would stay in College no matter what if I were Kelly. What a great gig he has on a college campus and get paid a ton of money. Yes NFL money is more, but isn't several million a year enough.

it's not going to be as bad as people think.
the programs they have come down hard on were multiple time offenders and self reporters(OSU and USC led the country is self reported violations before they got hammered for their violations).
the real question will be does the NCAA continue to hit non elite programs harder than elite ones.

traditionally they punish a team like SMU,Auburn & etc harsher than a USC,Bama,ND or etc established top dog program even if it's suspected that both are doing the same thing but that's when the old mantra "the NCAA is so mad with Ohio St that they punished Clemson."

I didn't think his offensive style had a chance in hell at the NFL level anyways. Very smart for him to stay put and get paid like a gangsta for a lush job where he could by all means stay for the next 10 years easy. In the NFL, he was probably gonna last 2 years and then audios back to NCAA where he would be starting all over.

naw, Kelly would tweak his system and adjust it to the league.
the real question is who would his defensive staff have been. the offense would be straight, but if he tried that 3-3-5 **** it would have been ugly.

I don't see the big deal about this guy, but then I don't watch much college, even watching the bowl games where the teams are rated close to each other you can tell who has the better talent. In Kelly's game they were destroying KU's guards, both were picking themselves up off the ground more than once. How can anyone look at **** like that and call it good football? It should have been a bigger blow out than it was.

I hope tonights game lives up to the hype.

KSU has always been less talented than most. Snyder just coaches them up and out executes the other team.
but the two teams that kicked their ass were spread teams they couldn't handle.

Kelly is a great offensive mind and in the past beat much more highly talented teams with his scheme.
