Detroit and Texans kick it off.

Lions with an impressive start. I will be watching closely as I am still skeptical about the Falcons and Texans. Houston not off to a good start.

Nick Fairley is freaking huge.

if Fairley ever puts it all together the Lions DL will be the best in the NFL. though the Texans are pretty damn good too.

If the Lions can pull this out we have a shot at #1

Houston has;

Indy twice, Tenn., NE, and Minni. They would need to lose 2 of these and we would have to win out.

Also how did they not have a camera angle that showed it clearly hitting. Usually that is so easy to see with all the cameras around, but CBS didn't seem to have it there.

Why do they even need to challenge? The replay system in college is far better and they don't have these rinky dink challenge flags. Seriously, Goodell's NFL is totally Mickey Mouse.

I actually think Simms made a good point. If the ref wasn't sure, why call the play dead? At least if it's a score, it automatically gets reviewed, if the rule him down there's no taking it back.

I just find it amusing how undisciplined Schwartz is. Didn't he make a bonehead move that cost them the game against the Titans?

Have you not been paying attention to what has been taking place since Goodell has taken over as commissioner? You have Goodell and a bunch of lackeys (like Mike Perreira) clamoring for face time.

The realistic target is a bye, not home field advantage. Today just further cements that. Houston isn't going to go 2-3 in its last five games. And really, it's not a big deal. We are better than this team home or away.

Be honest people... How many of you knew that there exists a rule... On plays that result in automatic challenge situations, but a coach throws his own challenge flag anyway, that challenge flag negates the chance of any potential review the may ensue ?

i also knew it, but that doesn't matter...what matters is that the head coach didn't know the rule or lost his head in the moment...regardless, he handed the Texans a free touchdown and put his team in a more difficult position to win the game...he didn't do the Broncos any favors today either....:bash:

teams like NE that play no huddle fast, hand or toss the ball to the official. Steven Hill fumbled the handoff to the ref and it cost his team about 10 seconds

For what it's worth...its not specifically about throwing the challenge flag...ANY penalty that delays the next snap prevents the previous play from being reviewable...since throwing an illegal challenge flag is considered a delaying penalty, that was that...

it seems like this rule would be in place to prevent teams from stalling a game to get more time to challenge a play, so it is weird that throwing an illegal challenge flag would fall this rule

baja

If a score is challenged on the sideline that negates the automatic review AND is a 15 yard penalty.

Needs to be changed this offseason.

15 yd penalty? Loss of a timeout? Sure.

But get the call right. It's why you brought instant replay in.

That said, stupid move by the coach. If I know you can't challenge a TD, he sure as hell should.

USMCBladerunner
11-22-2012, 07:49 PM
If a score is challenged on the sideline that negates the automatic review AND is a 15 yard penalty.

The rule is more general than that, but applies to scoring plays.

First, a coaches challenge of any non-challengable play (which includes plays that are automatically reviewed by the replay official, plays inside 2 minutes, and others) generates a 15 yard penalty and is considered a snap delaying penalty.

Second, any penalty that delays the next snap renders the previous play unreviewable.
