Wow... very unusual for a team to cut loose a 4th round pick in his rookie year, especially in the middle of the season.

Given our thinness at the DT position, whattaya think about picking him up?

Here's his bio/breakdown from Pro Football Weekly (http://www.profootballweekly.com/prospects/player/alameda-ta-amu-74/):

Notes:
Name is pronounced “al-uh-MEE-duh tah-AH-moo.” Parade All-American as a two-way lineman in Washington, where he also played basketball and competed in track and field. Committed to then-head coach Tyrone Willingham and the Huskies in 2008, when he played all 12 games as a true freshman, starting five, and recorded 21 tackles with zero for loss and zero sacks. Started 11-of-12 games in ’09, posting 19-4 1⁄2-2 1⁄2. Started all 13 games in ’10 and notched 39-5-1 1⁄2 with one batted pass. Totaled 30-7-3 1⁄2 in 13 starts at defensive tackle in ’11. Team captain.

Positives:
Outstanding size and girth — big-boned and thickly built. Heavy hands. Strong at the point of attack. Can consistently collapse the pocket. Clogs running lanes and is capable of plugging two gaps. Can invert the interior and cave the pocket. Engulfs ballcarriers. Generally plays with good eyes and awareness. Three-year starter. Football-smart. Matured as an underclassman, ratcheting up focus, conditioning and attitude.

Negatives:
Has short arms. Weight has fluctuated (ballooned as high as 390 pounds). Dull lower-body — does not generate power through his base. Unsudden and slow afoot — cannot range outside the phone booth. Inconsistent pad level — will get upright and narrow-based, negating his anchor (too easily washed at times). Needs to improve hand use. Limited third-down, pass-rush value. Inconsistent effort.

Summary:
A massive Samoan, Ta’amu is a short-area, two-down space eater with sheer mass and strength to hold down the fort inside a “30” front. Will have to remain dedicated to conditioning to maximize his potential.

If he's not going to get locked away...maybe. I don't think we have as much room as you think though.

Denver is not thin on the DL or at LBer or in the secondary. Most complete team in the NFL.

I don't think it's a good sign when a "massive Samoan" can't generate power in his base, along with short arms. Probably has a tough time shedding blocks and despite his size, doesn't have good power.

Who would you cut at this point to grab him?

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8607402/alameda-taamu-pittsburgh-steelers-apologized-recent-arrest

"He'll be formally arraigned Dec. 31 on felony charges of aggravated assault by vehicle and fleeing and eluding police, as well as misdemeanor charges including resisting arrest, escape and DUI. By waiving the hearing, Ta'amu acknowledged there was enough evidence for him to stand trial, although he could seek to resolve them through a plea bargain.

Three charges of felony aggravated assault -- all for allegedly fighting with police -- were withdrawn, but 18 other felony, misdemeanor and summary citations are now headed to Allegheny County Common Pleas Court."

Thanks but no thanks

Getting in a frat fight or a DUI is one thing. Trying to run over a cop is a totally different level. That's prison level.

I agree with that diagnosis. Not a good sign.

Unless we have a real light weight at some other position not worth cutting someone at this point.
