View Full Version : Clinton and Obama and Elway

Looking back on the last Broncos run on winning the SB I'v noticed some freaky things:

1996-1999 was Bill Clinton's second term as president. It's also the time the Broncos went on an epic run culminating in back to back SB wins. We are now in Obama's second term as president, we have a HoF QB (who is probably a Republican like Elway), we have a good defense, good coaching, and a good running game and now with Holiday (spelling?) we might have explosive ST's play (hello Darrian Gordon? spelling?). Also, we had Elam & Rouen (again with spelling?) who were pretty good and I think the kicking and punting is pretty good now too.

So, are the Broncos poised for a run? Will Elway have to go shake Obama's hand in the Whitehouse (harking back to the Clinton days)?

doh! :D

Interesting.

Although the running game is not a fair comparison. I like Willis a bunch but he's no TD.

granted, but does Manning need another Terrell Davis? Or can Manning get by with a good but not "great" running game?

Also, Zimmerman was a fantastic LT, a HoF LT and Clady is certainly a very good LT. But again, Manning gets the ball out so quickly that he may not need a HoF LT.

Koppen is a center and no he is not the equal of Nalen.

Kuper = Schlereth? (one thing the Broncos were during their SB run was healthy. The Broncos had an amazing run of healthy starters being able to play, so hopefully this will happen again).

oops, my bad. But I'm comparing the fact that they were both old vets.

Manny Ramirez = Dave Diaz-Infante? (It's not racist, it's because they're both backup guards).

So does this mean that we get beat by a Jacksonville like team in the playoffs this year, then go on the back to back SB run?

Those are some interesting comparisons. Here's another comparison that is only relevant to ME. The last time K-State was flirting with #1 was in 1998...:strong::lombardi:

Peyton may be a Republican, but he's probably very happy with the lefties in Colorado. He just bought a bunch of pizza places and they just legalized pot. :puff:

And today my horoscope said I'd come into money, and I found enough change in my couch to buy a subway cold cut sandwich...so since we're having fun with this stretch of similarities and twilight zone coincidences -

Well this season we did get beat by a former expansion team (Texans) that finally made the playoffs (sort of similiar to Jags)

another sort of similiarity is that prior to Elway and Manning(a HoF QB becoming a Broncos QB) beginning his Broncos career, his team was preceded by a former NE offensive coordinator becoming our head coach (Red Miller and Josh McDaniels) whose QB's had simliar last names (Craig Morton and Kyle Orton)...add in that Morton came to Broncos from Cowboys via the Cowboys divisional rival NYG and that Orton ended up a Cowboy via going to a Broncos divisional rival the KC Chiefs

and both coaches had great starts to their Broncos career but that soon waned (Miller first 3 seasons saw us in the playoffs...Josh had his 6-0 start)

another Morton-Orton sort of similarity is that Broncos brought in a much more mobile NY Jets back-up QB who showed a propensity for bringing his team back in games off the bench (Matt Robinson) while Orton was replaced by a current mobile NY Jets back-up QB that showed he could rally the troops off the bench too (Tim Tebow).....also on another note Robinson eventuially ended up as USFL's Jacksonville Bulls starting QB and rumor central has it that the other guy will end up as either a Jacksonville QB or end up in another Mickey Mouse league (the CFL)

Both were replaced by no nonsense coaches (Miller by Reeves and McDaniels by Fox) who then went out and acquired the aforementioned, HoF ,Republican supporting, Democrat hating, but will gladly shake that liberal douchebag's hand if it means winning the SB, to achieve that goal.

Add in that our DC when Elway first started in '83 was named Collier and Manning's is Del Rio.....you could rearrange the name Collier and get Cel Rio, with an extra L

Damn we're onto something here folks! Cue the Twilight Zone music....

oh snap, I said Twilight Zone and Brock looks like that vampire from Twilight!

I do think that prior to Elway awesome run, he really started to really see the ebb and flow of NFL defenses, and the entire NFL game... as a whole.

Now, while Peyton had that going early in his career, I think he is taking it to a whole new level.

Is it me, or in almost every game this year, at some point in the 3rd quarter, it seems Peyton has the whole opposing defense figured out, from top to bottom.

He has the solution set.

I actually do have a pretty good source up in Lexington that said Cal's is too smart for them and we're about to sign the #1 recruit making this the greatest recruiting class of all time.
And there's no proof that he ever payed anyone. His pitch is .. play a season, maybe two and I promise you you'll get paid then. Ill put you in touch with all the right people and make you very rich. And he delivers. But he doesnt recruit just anyone. If you're a high school baller, a call from coach Cal is the best thing that;ll ever happen to you. He makes his guys better basketball players too

How can anyone get 4 freshman and a sophmore to play with such cohesion, like in 11? You have to give him credit.
