View Full Version : OM Alumni: who do you want on the Broncos

Which player from your alma mater do you want playing for the Broncos?

Arizona State here. I think Cameron Marshall (http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/480364/cameron-marshall) is going to make an excellent NFL back.

It's very early, but he's an interesting guy. He's good enough that opposing QBs avoid the crap out of him, but he doesn't tune out of the game and makes them pay when they DO come to him.

...but I also am not huge on his body and his physicality. NFL QBs aren't going to be scared of him and NFL WRs can probably bully him. I want to see him be an effective in press before he can rate a top 16 pick.

As far as current players from our alma mater, William Gholston would be interesting to add to this pass rush, though obviously we have much bigger needs. I doubt Max Bullough goes any higher than 5th, but he'll still be better than anyone we have at the MLB position.

Now, as far as where I actually graduated from, we already have someone on our team from there.

Well, since my Alma Mater hasn't played a football game since the 1960's, can't really go there.

But the best athlete to come out of my Alma Mater in the last decade is Paul Stastny, and he's already with the Colorado Avalanche.

The following list is the complete list of NFL players who attended my Alma Mater... I don't recognize any of them. For the old timers out there, were any of these guys any good?

Balog, Bob (1949 - 1950)
Browning, Greg (1947 - 1947)
Dreher, Fred (1938 - 1938)
Etcheverry, Sam (1961 - 1962)
Fena, Tom (1937 - 1937)
Gifford, Bob (1942 - 1942)
Hazelhurst, Bob (1948 - 1948)
Johnson, Ray (1937 - 1940)
Jurich, Mike (1941 - 1942)
Stansauk, Don (1950 - 1951)
Tiller, Morgan (1941 - 1945)
Woudenberg, John (1940 - 1949)

Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State. Plays in a pro-style offense (which yes, requires blocking!) and runs a 4.47 40. Would be a great addition for #18.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/482558/markus-wheaton

Runner-up: Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State. One of the top CBs in this year's draft (hmmm, could the Broncos use him?), total gamer and a ball hawk. Runs a 4.49 40, frequent Pac-12 defensive player of the week, and you gotta be a great corner to survive in that conference.

Arizona Wildcats: I'd take Gronk, even though he's dumb as a box of rocks. Also, in his prime Tedy Bruschi (who I actually graduated with, yes I am that old, shut up). ;D why the hell do the good ones end up on the Pats? Well also maybe Lance Briggs, he was a wildcat too. We apparently already got the other Gronkowski, also a wildcat. We had Mike Bell and Spencer Larsen. I never liked our football team much, was always a fan of the basketball team, but we do produce a few decent ones I guess.

I would love Pitta (who was picked by the Ravens with one of the picks we traded away for Tim Tebow if I remember correctly...)

Of the current BYU players, the one I most want is Kyle Van Noy. The guy just makes plays.

Other considerations, Ziggy Ansah and Cody Hoffman.

I actually graduated from Utah State (although could never cheer for them over BYU). I wanted the Broncos to get Bobby Wagner or Robert Turbin from last years draft. Don't know of any current players.

oh for ****s sake try not to derail the thread. UofA vs ASU is a traditional rivalry, and it's fun to smack talk, not quite as much fun as smack talking raiders or chiefs fans mind you, but fun nonetheless. UofA is a good school and ASU is a good school. Granted UA has better colors, but Phoenix has a lot more to do (though I do love Tucson). ASU also generally fields a better football team, though UA does have its fair share of decent players, the team never seems to go anywhere. Our basketball team is the one I always followed, had floor seats for a very long time.

Anyway, it's not inferiority, its just fun to smack down the rivals. silly.

As for current Arizona players I'd want for us, can't think of any off top of my head, but its hard to stay on top of that in England.

He's not spectacular at any one thing, but he's a good blocker, a good ball carrier, and a good receiver. Although this thread is about who you'd like to see on the Broncos, I'm actually kind of rooting for Shanny to draft him.

I think this should have to be a current college player.

I'll go with Ezekiel Ansah (http://byucougars.com/athlete/m-football/ezekiel-ansah). Since just two years ago, he'd never put on a football helmet, he's definitely a project. He's from Ghana, and he came to BYU on a track scholarship. At 6' 6", 270, he runs the 100 meters in 10.9 seconds. His 40 time is 4.5-ish. BYU coaches say he's extremely smart and coachable - you can honestly see him improving, game by game.

He's so athletic, he's going to be a guy who shoots up after the combine and pro days. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I was born in kansas, to a Jayhawk family, where most of the people who went to college went to KU.

I had a choice. Root for Denver, the closest football team to where I was born, or root for a team in Missouri (The Chorfs). As a Jayhawk fan whose family ancestry actually fought in the Border War against those dirty slavers, the choice was easy. Root for the Broncos.

Baseball and Basketball (NBA) I dont follow all that closely but root for the local teams down here in Houston much to my recent chagrin.

So you can see, people can have varied allegiances to teams in various sports, depending on their situation. Not everyone is born in one place and stays there their whole life so roots for the home team.

Yeah makes sense, I wasn't getting on your case. Was just reminded of my friend's allegiances, which unlike yours, make little to no sense. He grew up in a small town outside Sacramento, and let's be honest, who wants to be a Kings fan? Although they were good back then, with Webber and Bibby. To be fair, if you are a fan of any team, there are years you better be a die hard.

It's not easy being a Jayhawk football fan, or an Astros fan, or lately a Rockets fan.

It aint always easy being a Bronco fan. The only thing that is consistent is Kansas hoops winning the Big 12 and making the big dance.

Robert Herron, maybe, he's a small fast receiver who is usually hurt for 1/2 the season.

Nick Carlson, C, could maybe make it to the 2nd round of cuts in camp.

Kurt Taufa'asau, DT, never hurts to bring in a DT

Who I'm really hoping for is:

Dave Christensen, I think the Broncos should bring him in as a Public Relations guy and Ethics coach.

I hear ya. CU Buffs fan here. :pity:

For sure. I give him **** about it sometimes, but the only thing that really matters is staying true to your team.

I wonder if Elway will be watching this guy due to the Stanford ties and the fact that he's probably a pretty smart player too. Rumor is he's not very good against the pass so if the Broncos do take him it won't be for his ability to cover a TE...
