Bears release former first-round OT Williams.

By PFW staff
The Bears released former first-round OT Chris Williams and brought back CB Zackary Bowman.

Williams, the 14th overall pick in the 2008 draft, had been inactive the last two games. He played in the teamís first three games, but did not start.

Last season, Williams started all nine games he played. In his time with the Bears, Williams appeared in 50 games with 38 starts. Veteran Jonathan Scott has been the backup swing tackle behind JíMarcus Webb and Gabe Carimi.

Bowman, who signed a one-year deal, was with the Bears from 2008-11. He played in all 16 games last year with one start and made 15 tackles. In í09, Bowman had six interceptions and 66 tackles while starting 12 games.

if you're an offensive lineman and the Bears release you, that's just about the end of the road.

You could always ask George Foster how he stayed in the league... that might keep you around for a year or two.

Edit: Holy ****. Foster is still in the league? Wikipedia says New Orleans.

Edit 2: He's nowhere on this list: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/roster/NO/new-orleans-saints

This is like a worse Ryan Harris, he never recovered from a back injury and now he is about as rigid as Keanu Reeves and a slightly worse blocker than Keanu Reeves

I bet he's still a better actor than Keanu Reeves.

I have probably 1,000+ posts explaining that he sucks pre-08 draft when everyone here wanted him.

I remember watching that 2008 NFL draft and hearing how bad Cutler wanted Shanny to draft Williams and Bennett to reunite that awesome Vanderbilt team. Hilarious!

How did we get half a dozen posts into this thread without someone saying "let's bring him in for a look ?" ???

Because if you can't beat J'Marcus Webb, you certainly can't beat Chris Clark.

this mother couldn't start for the Bears where Cutler is getting tossed around like a slut in a porn movie.

Peyton's neck is too important to risk just some random trash off the street protecting him.

He would fit right on in at Chicago. Foster was one of worst high picks in recent years.

He was never good. My brother is a Bears fan and about went bald pulling his hair out over the years because of that O line and in particular, Williams.

Foster was drafted in the 20's and he has had a 11 year career so far. A majority of first round draft picks never make it that far.

You're going to really struggle defending the position that Foster was a good pick.

this is what happens when you draft a OL who's wrist was broken and made him miss a good chunk of the season.

please he was a loser in DEN did not fit into the scheme ,nor was he worth a crap in DET ..

BTW he was dafted #20 in 2003 so 11 years well that would be a hell of a FEAT in itself..

According to NFL.com

he is not longer in the NFL..

and started 53 of 96 games until DET cut his ass..

What part of that equals this:

Detroit sucked balls back then and it was a lazy Millen GM that was probably in charge of getting him. I did think he went to Falcons though and sucked with holding and/or false start calls. He sucked for us and making him one of the worst picks we have had in recent years.

My bad someone stated that he was on the Saints roster this year. Anyway, He was a bust for the Broncos BUT if he was still in the league for 11 years than he will have had a good career for himself. Not necessarly for the team he played for. I almost always think in terms of the player himself not in terms of the teams.

If he played 11 years in the league then he had a pretty good career for himself.

If he made it through 11 years, that is a lot of money he stole from some dumb franchises.

I had thought I heard the same thing, but did my homework..

as for IF he had made 11 years in the NFL.. that was a really huge IF..

If he made it 11 years in the league, then he's a time traveller or a god damn wizard. Because he was drafted in 2003. It's now 2012.

After a rough start to his career, Foster had actually developed into a halfway decent starting RT up until the point where he ended that guy's season in Cincinnati on that cut block. For some reason, he was never even close to being the same mentally after that.

he was only off by one year. McGahee has 10 years of experience and he was drafted in 03.

He was with the Colts in 2009. Dont think he ever played for them, not sure if he wound up on IR or cut. Either way, 7 year career at least. Did have 'some' trade value when we dealt him. Hardly a 'bust'.

Unless we got even steven draft picks for him and as lousy as he was in Den he was a bust.
According to nfl.com he did not play for them.

Just one of Tanahans 35 top picks that did not resign a second contract in den.

Only moron bigger than tanahan was mc millian. Otherwise he would have been cut.

By your estimation Manning must really suck since the Colts couldn't even get a pick for him. We got four years, (three as a starter) out of him, not all of which were terrible, and they got Dre Bly in trade for Foster who at the time was a pro bowler and filled a major need.

But keep effing that tanahan chicken, it never gets old.

Dude, he sucked balls. Only a few people here equate starting with "not a bust". We had no talent at that position. He was a saloon swinging door. He sucked! Thank God a worse GM saw something in him. I remember Broncos calling him Raw but he never came around for us. It is amazing he had some years in the NFL more than our contract.
