And........you actually thought he was going to support Obama or that he came out and endorsed someone? It isn't a secret he is a Republican. I am sure there were guys like LABF that wouldnt buy a car off of him because of his political stance. BTW, how long will this take to get moved to the WRP section of the Mane?

Big suprise there. 'Ole Elway is looking out for his millions. I can't say I blame him. I would hope if I was a millionaire I would look at the big picture, like Gates, Buffet and Geffen, but I might just be a greedy son-of-a bitch like most millionaires.

Romney and Elway might appear on stage together, but only one of them is capable of ever winning in Ohio.

Romney has about as much of a chance of winning the oval office as the Bills do at winning the super bowl.

It takes balls of steel for a rich white guy to endorse a Republican. Totally going against the grain.

Elway is known for The Drive. Romney is known for the cross-country drive with a dog on the roof.

Oh but his dog enjoyed riding on top of the car just like the Browns enjoyed watching Elway do his Drive.

Give it time. Eventually the you're rich and aren't paying your fair share standard will devolve into anyone holding a job. Obama can't do much but he'll be able to achieve that.

Well, I do use the roads and bridges that taxes pay for and I am thankful for that. I do mooch because my kid goes to public school and I am thankful for that. I have been to National Parks and I am thankful for those.... Yeah, I must be a moocher.

Why are you so angry? Have you been drinking watching the Cowboys lose? I can understand that.

Dial it back alittle dude if you want a discussion. You know the U.S. had a 90% tax bracket for millionaires in the 50's under Republican President Eisenhower and it was one of the most prosperous times in American history. The interstate highway system was built then and the Space Race was going strong.

However, I would be happy for a progressive tax and Millionaires should have to pay 40%. Close the loopholes and America would be back on the road to recovery.

As far as starting a business. Well, people start businesses all the time and become rich. Why? Because of the American system. Don't you think that these people owe something back to the system that helped make them rich? It's not asking much.

Try to grow up in Africa or Asia and make it rich from nothing....It don't happen. So if you are an American and you are able to realize your dream and become filthy rich you should pay a little more in taxes. How can anyone argue with that?

There you go confounding right-wing knuckle draggers with facts again. ;)

If you listen to these know-nothings, Eisenhower, Nixon and Ford were all socialists in the extreme.

I hope to compile a vast amount of wealth so that I can therefore offer my kids the opportunities that I never had. Nothing wrong with that. We should all want that for our kids. It's called being a good, loving parent. In the meantime you teach them good morals, strong values and work ethic.

Funny thing is, all trust fund babies i've ever met always end up being loser druggies and liberals.

Nothing wrong with that.

That's the American Dream many of us grew up believing.

Problem is, the dream of prosperity tuned into pure "greed is good" and "it's every man for himself" at some point.

That's NOT the American dream.

Perfect description of GWB and his ilk (minus the "liberal" part.)

I hope you succeed and become rich.

When Obama says that you have a business he says that you did not build it by yourself. Of course the Republicans for political reasons manipulate that and that is fine but you need to know the truth not what the reublican spin machine says.

If you become rich and provide wonderful lives for your family its because of your smarts, hard work and the American system that is set up to help you succeed. Whether you have taken a student loan, or a small business loan, driven on a highway or mass transit or been to a public library all these thing helped you on your way. And being rich you now have a little more responsibility to give. That is it. Do not hate on this embrace it. You made it now help the next person.

It's a simple premise. We are all in this together. If you make it help the next person achieve greatness.

Exactly. I think it's great that George Romney could provide such a privileged starting point for his children; that's the dream of any parent. Obama himself, though his book sales before his election and the inevitable millions he'll rake in after holding office in appearances and further publishing will give his children a similar financial leg up.

But celebrating and encouraging that kind of success should come with an understanding that, by mathematical necessity, only a very small percentage can attain that kind of economic security. The rest of us will be living pay check to pay check, hoping to build some kind of nest egg for our families, but also at the mercy of life events that can leave us vulnerable at any moment.

Debating how to provide a safety net for that vast majority is worthwhile, and I'm honestly sympathetic to conservative thinking in many related areas. But this recent trend to outright villainize the poorest people in this country is insane to me. As David Brooks pointed out recently (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/31/opinion/party-of-strivers.html?ref=davidbrooks&moc.semityn.www), this isn't so much traditional conservatism as Randianism run amok:

There was certainly no conservatism as Edmund Burke understood it, in which individuals are embedded in webs of customs, traditions, habits and governing institutions.

Today’s Republicans strongly believe that individuals determine their own fates. In a Pew Research Center poll, for example, 57 percent of Republicans believe people are poor because they don’t work hard. Only 28 percent believe people are poor because of circumstances beyond their control. These Republicans believe that if only government gets out of the way, then people’s innate qualities will enable them to flourish.

...I don’t see what the party is offering the waitress with two kids, or the warehouse worker whose wages have stagnated for a decade, or the factory worker whose skills are now obsolete.

The fact is our destinies are shaped by social forces much more than the current G.O.P. is willing to admit. The skills that enable people to flourish are not innate but constructed by circumstances.
