He didn't alienate them. The majority of the 46% don't know they're poor. 2/3 of Americans think they're "middle class" (thanks Gallup!). Most believe they pay income taxes, they don't understand that payroll tax isn't income tax, they don't understand what happens when they file and why they get tax returns, and they believe when Glenn Beck says the "welfare moochers" are taking their money.
That dad who brings home $26k per year? He thinks he's middle class, he thinks "income tax" is something he pays. He doesn't realize Romney spends that much on a nice dinner. For his horse.
Those 46% of Americans that the Republicans deride as moochers are either:
1) The Working Poor (who think they're middle class)
2) The Elderly (who believe Paul Ryan is going to protect medicare)
3) Students
The percentage of people who are not elderly, and pay no federal taxes: 6.9% (source (http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxtopics/federal-taxes-households.cfm))
And those are the randian villains to Republicans. Not 47%, but 6.9% of Americans who can't find enough work to be taxed, who live on what scraps of programs we still have running. That's who they're scared of.
So what if they're screwing over hard workers and poor families, so long as they can punish that 6.9% of humanity.

The difference between me and Mitt is: I pay Federal Income Taxes. ON MY SOCIAL SECURITY EARNINGS! Mitt hasn't had a job in 10 years (so he said), and he has not paid Federal Income Taxes in 10 years. Which of us is a victim?
You just can't fix stupid. And Mitt the Maladroit Twit seems to be h3ll bent on proving that theorem daily.
Yeah, EARNINGS. I paid into that program for over 50 years. That's why it's earnings to me.

Did you notice his dad is part of the 47% that wouldn't ever vote for him.

I wish that he actually had alienated them. But the only reason the Republicans have even a chance of ever winning an election is that they somehow delude the Walmart and welfare Republicans into believing that they don't actually hate them and wish them harm.
My grandparents were very successful ranchers, bought they got a truly ridiculous amount of federal subsidy in the last twenty years of their lives. And they would sit there and buy boats and take trips with that money, and bad mouth "welfare" recipients all the time (and of course vote for Republicans every time). The people who will vote for Romney are completely deluded that he's talking about someone else in the 47% (and I'll give you three guesses as to what they think the someone else looks like and where they live).

Why do you keep parroting myths and canards?
Seriouslly 50,000 dollars a plate just to crack jokes and strategize how to ignore people who don't make 50k a year and are on welfare, and this is what you muster up.
If I couldn't see something as simple as the connection here I too might find myself voting republican.
Wheres the Myth? I posted a video! simply calling something a myth doesn't make it a myth, it means it didn't fall in line with the republican rhetoric.

I can not figure out what world you live in. Democrats are furious about corporations who do not pay taxes.
Can you guess which president plans on taxing them more? If you want corporations to be taxed more, id ask, are you turning Liberal?

Everybody is on the dole. It's an addiction and no one can stand or take the political withdrawn.
Somebody has to be responsible for supplying the dole (or on the hook for the debt). I think it's a group of middle class net tax-payers having their earnings redistributed to both extremes of society.
The two-party system has us by the balls as long as they can keep us divided and blaming each other.

GE spends millions on lobbying, and they get billions in tax rebates. They also make billions more in profits off the the tax-payers through military contracts. That's a great trade-off.
