View Full Version : Why am I not more worried about this game?

Before the Steeler game I was a complete mess. I have never been more worried about game than that one since forever ago.

This game feels different. Let me preface by saying I still think we can lose this game, but maybe because I don't think we'll get destroyed.

Is it that the Steelers shut down the Jets? Is it that the Chiefs are actually just awful and actually moved the ball on the Falcons pretty well? Is it because Ryan is 0-3 on MNF? Maybe it's because they are an NFC team and so wouldn't ding our record TOO much.

Anyone else not feeling so worried?

It's because you haven't heard this yet: Joe Mays did not leave the field at all on Sunday. He was one of four players to play all 81 defensive snaps, along with Champ, Moore, and Adams (Porter missed one snap).

I'm extremely worried about this game.

All I keep thinking is Matt Ryan is 26-4 at home.

I'll be a mess right before kickoff.

I think we lose this game, but I'm not really worried about it. It's a game we SHOULD lose. We will still probably go far into the playoffs.

I think it was FatMan, but some website brought up the point that Mays is probably kept in the nickel because of his run defense. Its not hard to recall how awful teams would gash our nickel last year on the ground. Until Patrick Willis comes to the Broncos, expect to see a lot more of that.

Because these Falcons have been known as a finesse team with less of a reputation for kicking people's asses. They exist outside of our smaller sphere, the AFC West, and our larger sphere, the AFC as a whole. On top of that they're in one of the less publicised NFC divisions.

Plenty to be worried about but as someone else said the loss last week looks slightly less impressive after Buffalo dominated the same opponent.

Lastly Manning's miraculous abilities have done something that hasn't been possible in Denver for the last 14 years - calmed my nerves.

I actually feel strangely comfortable about this game too. Maybe not comfortable as in I think it'll be an easy win, but I know we'll be competitive this season, and if we have to lose games, losing road games to an NFC opponent is not a death sentence.

The only thing I am worried about is our defense getting shredded by Ryan's air attack.

I wasn't completely impressed with JDR's playcalling last week but lets hope some adjustments were made to cover up our LBers being weak in coverage.

You nailed it. We have an all time great playing QB. We were worried about it last week because 1) Pittsburgh D and 2) didn't know how rusty Manning would be. Don't have those concerns this week.

I completely agree with you Kaylore....I had the same exact emotions last week compared to this week. I think it is because before the Steeler game I knew if we lost we realistically could start 0-3 and still be a good team. Now at least if we beat the Raiders in week 4 the worst we are looking at is 2-2 which is not bad considering who we played in our first 4 games. I will be thrilled if we can get one of these next two

I'm more worried about this game than the steelers. Steelers don't light up scoreboards. Atl also runs no huddle sometimes so this game could end up 48-45 or some ridiculous score. The offense needs to come out firing. Not like last week. You can overcome a sluggish start against steelers, not so much atl in their house. Tony Gonzalez will get his. Gotta put up a lot of points to win this one.

As a fan I look at it like this is a bonus game. We're suppose to lose and so anything better than that bumps IMO our record up from 11-5 or 12-4.

Or if we win it will allow us to have a stinker against a lesser opponent and not really be hurt by it.

Though I know that once manning is doing his presnap bull**** right before his first play and the crowd is going nuts I'll be a mess.

I think it's this. It's partly that the Falcons third down defense is worse than ours. It's partly that they're nicked up, but mostly, if we lose tonight it won't ruin our season. There's something relaxing about that.

Talked with my uncle about this game for 20 minutes today. I described it as being uncomfortable with how comfortable I feel about the Broncos in this matchup.

In addition to all of the reasons you listed, it's also Peyton ****ing Manning in a dome against a team with a minimal pass rush. I also look forward to seeing just how fast Von looks on carpet. Over/under two sacks and I'd take the over.
Does anyone know if Hillman is active tonight?

We do that and 13-3 is gonna be probable.

I think 5-3 would be friggin great considering how tough these first 8 games will be.

Probably because a rusty, post operative Manning dismantled one of the best defenses in his Bronco debut. He's only going to get better. It's like bringing a gun to a knife fight.

Part of it is that the Chefs and Faiders look so god-awful and we know Norval is bound for an implosion at some point this season. We can lose tonight--and lose badly (though i don't see that happening, i say we're gonna win)and still move on with enough to win the division going away. Get to the tournament, then the revenge tour starts.

All week I've kind of viewed this game as playing with house money.

Starting off with a 1-0 record, at home, against an AFC team we match up well with—that felt like a really important one to bag.

Tough road game I marked as a probable loss when predicting the schedule in July, against an NFC team—if you had to be okay with losing a game, this was as close as you could come.

2-0 would obviously be huge (would only need to split Texans and Raiders to get a 3-1 start), but this is a game where being competitive and notching some good road noise experience in the Manning offense wouldn't be a total loss.

I have 3 games circled in 12 that will tell me if we are true contenders this season or still too flawed. If we win 1 we have already taken a huge step forward. If we win 2 of these three games I say we are true contenders this year (If we stay healthy).
