He remained true to his convictions and considered organized religion 'drudgery' and 'hogwash'.
Ann's brother Roderick is quoted as saying that their father 'considered people who were religious to be weak in the knees'.

Religion strikes again. I guess they can make him religious even if he didn't want?
So cooky they believe all the sudden this man is now Mormon because a family member stood in for him and had water splashed on him. In all honesty I don't see the difference in baptizing a dead person with no choice and baptizing a baby with no choice. But some times forcing religion is the only way it will persist, its way to hard to explain rationally to someone.

Although this doesn't really do much to add to the political discussion (other than, of course, to point out the silliness of religion and thus including religion in a political discussion), it is a good point to bring up yet again of the utter stupidity of the things some people believe.
Here we have a guy who swore off religion his entire life, and his family coming in after he died and erasing all of that away with a magic splash of water. I wonder how these people would feel if a Muslim "baptized" their dead bodies against their wishes.
Baptizing babies is a product of the middle ages, and was developed in order to "expand the brand", so to speak. This imaginary place was invented where all the unbaptized babies go, and everyone thought "aww, how sad, I don't want my baby to be alone for eternity, I want him to live in our mansion in heaven, so what's another 10 gold piece baptism fee?"

Dead bodies don't feel anything. Who cares what the living do to make themselves feel better? As a devout atheist I certainly don't want to participate in any religious activity but if people want to pray for me, hold a religious memorial when I'm dead, baptize me after I'm gone, who really cares? It's meaningless to the one who's dead and may help some family member crackpot feel better while they're still living. In the end, it doesn't matter because baptism is about as effective for getting someone into heaven as stepping on a crack is effective in breaking your mother's back. As an atheist, the whole thing sort of makes me giggle that there are those who take such actions seriously.
But such actions DO make me concerned about a living man who is running for the highest office in our country. What other sort of rabbit's feet does this guy carry in his pocket that he feels he needs to function in society?

I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy. Did you criticize Obama for going to church where the pastor gave anti-American sermons? Think about that. The President attending service where the pastor spoke negatively about the U.S. Sermons where he said we deserved 9-11. I think that is a much bigger issue than what Ann Romney's family did to a proxy of her dad. Seriously, get a ****ing clue...

I think you completely missed the point on this one, it is amazing what a person could possibly believe and still be running to rule this major of a country
As humorous as lonestar and your uninsightful jabs, hey but at least we do not even have to worry about wasting time fact checking your posts. Just "witty" quirps, reminds me of the whole RNC.
Romney goes "Obama said he would stop raising the waters" all idiots chuckle. Real people consider it as an actual issue and discuss it.
So again, just humorous that someone is this kooky and could be my president. I'm the new resident atheist and I like to get my jolly's by laughing at conservatives struggle with logic so get used to it, you two confirm my resolve more than I ever thought possible, and for that I thank you.

I have a news flash for you, a majority of the country is Christian. Baptism is an important part of that. 99% of our presidents were Christian so I guess you've been humored your whole life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_affiliations_of_Presidents_of_the_United _States
As far as missing the point, I find it ignorant of you to find belief in baptism amazing for a Presidential nominee but that a President was a member of a congregation where the pastor was blatantly ANTI-AMERICAN is perfectly acceptable.
And FYI, atheists who mock and demean Christians are just as ignorant as the crazy Christians who harass atheists, as ignorant as white supremacists and as ignorant as anti American pastors. But it's obvious by your maturity level that ignorant is what you're going for.

I didn't say anything about the population of this country and thinking baptism is important, that has nothing to do with anything.
How many of those 99% presidents baptized an atheist after death and believed in it?
I laugh at President Obama's belief in a god as much as Romney, but when you start letting that view dictate policy it is a problem, and Obama is much more in touch with reality in that respect. Values science, education, and the environment.
So no I do not agree with Obama going and worshiping someone "antiamerican" however, that is hardly the case black and white.
So three arguments you threw at me and none of them had anything to do with what I said, further proving the right wings need to distract from the real points or just flat out change history.
Finally, the hypocrisy in your last statement rocks almost as much as that other thread you were Hypocritical magoos.

You ask why atheist often take the chance to discredit christianity, or religion in general. It is because the collective beliefs in that religion make it impossible for the vast majority of people in that religion to move on with reality, technology, equality, and the future.

First of all, the plural of atheist is atheists.
Secondly, it would seem to me that one basic freedom that advances humanity is the freedom of conscience, including that of religion, and yet atheist governments have been at the fore of suppressing that freedom, to the tune of tens of millions.
Atheists always bicker about religious people allegedly "Bible thumping" at them, yet they're doing they own version of it with secular humanism. What aspect of freedom is being respected when atheists come along and rip down nativity scenes? It seems to me that at the best, what atheists want is for religious people (specifically Christians) to keep their mouths shut and their faith in the closet akin to the Jews in Nazi Germany.

Neither is in dispute. Both are peculiar issues. He went for 20 years and the sermons were anti-American. No doubt about it. Oprah attended for a short time left because of the anti-American sermons. I never said he agreed with the reverend. I just find it a little more crazy that he went for 20 years, wrote a book "Audacity of Hope" that was inspired by one of his sermons, was married by and children .....WERE BAPTIZED by him. Yeah, a PROXY baptism for a dead guy is way crazier.

Until you take responsibility for the shape of the economy when it was handed off and the fact that it was in free fall at that time and the fact that republicans conspired to obstruct everything to fix it anything you say is useless. Any blame you point at OBAMA is nothing short of hyprocisy without taking reponsibility for the above.
Are you a hyprocite or not ?

Exactly.
What these right-wing pinheads don't understand is that after eight years of covering Bush's flank they have ZERO credibility and even less of a claim to any sort of moral high ground.
These people are completely without shame.

This post is full of fail. First you say you're not concerned with beliefs but then you say you are.
And yes I have a job but it's the weekend you dumb ass.
You just realized??? A little slow aren't you? Like I said different history/relationships/respect for different people. Like you, you've proven to be a total idiot. I don't give a shyt about respecting you and your opinion because of the way you (a new poster) have started out. Others here that I disagree with but think are capable of mature discussion I will show more respect.

If this is the way to a mature discussion, I take this as a compliment.
Some day we will all be able to have a mature discussion like you. Until then I suppose everyone but you is doing it wrong. Read your post, you are proud of the way you post yet accuse others of immaturity.
Go look at how you responded when I asked if you had a job compared to how another poster responded when you said the exact same thing to him. He undoubtedly thinks of you as you think of me, but he handled it with maturity. I don't care about maturity, but for someone who runs around like they are the king of who is and isn't mature, this is cute.

It is soooo frustrating, people love to say it was Obama or even Clinton but there is no way it could have been Bush, the president when everything went wrong.

So you want to push your beliefs on us? There's a word for that but it escapes me at the moment.
Fundamentalism.

1. I am tired of explaining the difference between apples and oranges. The comment to the one individual and was based off history here, something you don't have so wouldn't understand. I didn't speak to you about being mature so I don't know why you insist on referring to something between another individual and myself.
2.I'm guessing you've realized that you lost the thread argument and will now focus on attacking me instead of staying focused on the topic. That's fine. At least keep the attacks in the same thread.

Obama's first 2 years, had a democrat controlled Congress, yet still couldn't get a budget passed. But it's all the republicans fault though. That only makes sense to the blinded liberal hacks who refuse to deal with reality.
