View Full Version : Jason Garrett compares Tony Romo to John Elway

Bronco Rob

Romo was better last year than our memories of him: 66 percent accuracy (and one memorable overthrow of Miles Austin in the close December loss to New York), 4,184 yards passing, plus-21 TD-INT ratio, a 102.5 rating. “He’s more than capable of winning a Super Bowl in this league,’’ Jason Garrett told me earlier in the day. “Look at John Elway. He went 14, 15 years without winning one, and all of a sudden Denver runs it better and plays better defense, and he wins two, and now people think of him as a top three quarterback of all time. With Tony, we’ve just got to be better around him, and I think we will be.’

I don't remember any Cowboys QB willing their team to Super Bowl games when the team probably had no business being there in the first place.

Elway carried 3 mediocre teams to the Super Bowl. Romo has had a load of talent around him and never won a playoff game.

Drug test him.

20 years from now when I'm watching NFL Network and they do a countdown for biggest choke jobs in NFL history, Romo will still be shown fumbling the snap to that potential winning field goal.

Tony Romo could win the next three Super Bowls and would not even break into the Top 20 QBs of all time.

Yep and this alone puts him as greatest ever imo. I don't see any other QB taking those teams to SB. Romo even has new rules to make it easier for him.

Yep. I also think Romo's arm strength is pretty overrated. I've seen Tony Romo limp dick passes against a cover 2. Elway had a laser rocket arm until the end.

there's lots of similarities between Elway and Romo. For instance Elway was drafted number 1 overall and Romo was the #1 UDFA taken by the Cowboys. Elway took three subpar talent teams to the SB and won the AFCC along the way while Romo has also managed to win 1 playoff game with a loaded team, so there's that. Romo is a bonefied gun slinger who just lets it all hang out and Elway was known to throw some picks as well.

see, lots of neat similarities.

Elway was top 3 QBs in many people's minds before the Super Bowl. Let us say Top 10 to eaze the opinions. Tony Romo is n the outside fringe of Top 10 just out of the current 30 teams! Elway was Top 10 of all time.

That is all true. Romo is a very good QB but he has not even been to one SB where as Elway had went to 3 SBs before wining two. ELway showed guts in the playofffs, fortitude, determination. What has Romo EVER shown in the playoffs? Anything, help me I'm trying to think of something.

Romo is the total opposite of Rooster Cogburn. He has no GRIT.

see here is the problem with this comparison. Elway was already seen as a HOF player and great QB. he just couldn't win the big one.

Romo is not seen as a HOF and people still question if he's a true franchise QB.

Gee, her holding her stomach as baby Momma stance, news telling everyone that she had a baby (and on the cover of one of those SuperMarket Rags) and then the Weight Watchers commercials pop up. Yeah, I really had to dig for that scoop.

Plus, her fat days with no excuse was on my Yahoo page a few years ago.

Elway typically brought teams back from behind to win games. Romo's biggest criticism is he does not typically play well in big games, much less win them. So the comparison is a bad one, as well as the other reasons others have mentioned too.
