Moreno was decent against the 9ers (especially his catches), he's going to do well as the backup this year - until he gets hurt in the 4th game.

Realistically Moreno would probably fetch a 5th rounder, maybe a conditional 4th rounder to a desperate enough team.

I seriously don't know why detroit just doesn't wait for the final roster cuts, there will be some quality RBs to be had and they wouldn't have to give up anything. Perhaps they don't want to get into a bidding war or something but I'd rather overpay for a RB than give up picks or something like that.

What are you talking about? Look at their career averages. Moreno is a very low 4.0 and Mathews is a 5. Plus Moreno did his work last year as a part time runner. The year he was the starting RB he averaged 3.8 YPC

I just don't see a trade for Moreno happening. There's so many reasons not to trade for Moreno like the fact that he still could get cut. Why would Detroit trade for a RB who is often injured, this makes no sense, that is, your team is already suffering from injuries at the RB position so lets bring in another RB who can't stay healthy.

If you read the article it made perfect sense why the lions would want Moreno.

I disagree, in fact, the article points out the reasons not to trade for Moreno: "...the bulk of his career in Denver has been spent on the sidelines with injuries... A lot will depend on what players are released this coming Friday, and since Moreno is sitting on the bubble in Denver, Mayhew might not even have to worry about a trade to get him."

The main reasons for trading for Moreono is: "...The two big reasons this would make sense for Detroit are, Matthew Stafford…and, Matthew Stafford... Stafford was the quarterback at Georgia when Moreno was the featured tailback, and the two stars announced their intentions of leaving school for the NFL at practically the same time. The familiarity is always a plus, and then the fact that Detroit is really a primarily passing attack team would mean less burden would be placed on Moreno in terms of numbers of carries."

Meh, that's not a very strong argument to trade for a RB, especially what looks like a short term answer.

Then their underwhelming conclusion: "If nothing else, Moreno could provide a solution until Best is healthy, and Leshoure returns from his suspension, and then the carries could be divided among the three backs. Moreno is also an excellent receiver out of the backfield."

So Mayhew is gonna trade for this potential RB? Maybe he trades a 7th or a player he's gonna cut anyway?

It never ceases to amaze me how much his injury history is overblown. He's appeared in 36 out of a possible 48 games. He's missed 12 to injury, with 9 of those coming last year. The author of that article needs to go back to math class.

The guy never missed a single game to injury in college. Before last year, it really wasn't some huge problem.

4.1 to 4.7 thanks, quit rounding things.

And Moreno started more games in his second season, which he average 4.3. By your argument Ladanian Tomlinson was never going to be more than average since due to his 3.6 YPC as a rookie and Tatum Bell was going to be great due to his 5.3.

So, If you are basing your opinion of Mathews being great and Moreno being nothing more than average on yards per carry, that criteria is flawed based on the numbers we currently have. Especially since it looks like Mathews is going to be at least equally as fragile

ColoradoDarin
08-29-2012, 02:22 PM
So the Lions need a RB for 3-4 games and they're not going to go after someone like one of the two 9ers RBs that they announcers kept saying was going to get cut? Wait, is Matt Millen still GM?
