Gunman carrying bag of Chick-fil-A 'goodies' walks into conservative lobbyist headquarters and opens fire - injuring security guard
At approximately 10.45 a.m. an unidentified man entered the Family Research Council's (FRC) headquarters in Chinatown, made a statement, produced a gun and then shot a security guard who attempted to stop him.
The guard was rushed to hospital while witnesses said that Sources have told NBC 4's Jackie Bensen that the unnamed gunman had two 15 round ammunition clips with him and was carrying Chick-fil-A sandwiches in his backpack too.
'He opened fire on the security guard,' said MPD Police Chief Cathy Lanier.
'The security guard was struck, is right now receiving treatment and is in stable condition. The security guard and others wrestled the suspect down to the ground and he is in custody.'

I'm sure ABC's lead reporter is googling 'Tea party+FRC' with a hopeful heart.
To their credit, a significant part of the LGBT community issued a statement condemning the violence, whatever the motivation was. Apparently the President was too busy.

Obama issued a statement condemning it as well.
Not that this isn't significant, but no one died. Should the president stop to issue a statement condemning every shooting that happens in this country? If so, does it have to happen immediately?
If Romney is elected and there is a shooting at a planned parenthood and no one dies, I don't think he needs to stop his other tasks and issue a statement.

Yeah, it did seem a little weird, but this one I think is a little bit different. FRC is very well known and labeled as a hate group, and has mixed it up with the LGBT community before...which is why it was kind of nice to see organizations like GLAAD come out against it. It's an attack on a politically charged organization during a very politically charged time. I don't think Obama wants to take any chances that people on Fox News, etc. will call him out for not condemning it. It sort of becomes a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.
If it had just been at like a post office or something, I doubt it would have made much news. Well, I shouldn't say that, they'd probably turn it into a debate on whether we need the GD post office then.

The gunman entered the building with two 15 round ammunition clips with him. Had the gunman entered the DNC office with two 15 rounds clips and been taken down by a security guard it would have been the lead story on all networks with the guard being touted as a national hero.

Fair enough, but my point is that had it been a liberal organization of equal caliber (DNC is a much much bigger organization) the story likely would have the exact same amount of play. If it happened to the RNC or the DNC, then it deserves a lot more coverage and play by whomever the president is.
The FRC, is a loud, but minor organization. Its parent organization Focus on the Family is more well known and has a much bigger national presence. Many millions of people hadn't heard of the FRC until yesterday. So all I am saying is minor organization, no one actually killed or even in critical condition.... Does it really call for a President (any President at any point in time with a similar situation) stopping everything else he has on his plate to address it?
One of the things that I think has been completely overblown is George W.'s initial reaction to 9/11. Who knows how much had actually been conveyed to him at the time? I believe he even said later he didn't understand the magnitude of the situation and realized there was nothing he could do about it. Its not completely fair to tear Bush apart on just that moment, though it has happened.
In contrast, this is the complete opposite type of attack from that of September 11th. Its one crazy person and the damage was completely minimal. Its trivial to make it an issue about the President (again any president) not making a statement on it for a few hours.

Come on, man. I've heard of false equivalency before but this is insane.
The words Andrew Card used were, "America is under attack" and Bush continued to sit there. There is no excuse.

It's doesn't matter what kind of organization it is, mass carnage was avoided by an on duty security guard. It could have very easily turned into what happened at the Colorado movie theater. Would it mean less if a dozen or so people had been killed if they belonged to the FRC, a loud but minor organization as you say?

For the record, FRC is a hate group that spent $25K lobbying Congress to NOT condemn Uganda's "Kill the Gays" legislation.
Chick-fil-A is a FRC donor.
Still, this doesn't justify what this psycho did.
