View Full Version : Luck looks real good in opener

Just finished watching the requisite COlts Preseason opener living here in INDY. Andrew Luck looked very good in the opener, made no mistakes in his reads, and played well under pressure.

The new Defense also looks a lot better, even though it is the RAMS offense we are talking about. Bradford played till the mid-second quarter and looked OK at best.

INDY and DEN are both feeling pretty good about the past offseason after today.

Matt Cassel actually looked good too, see there, ...it means nothing ;)

QBR 148. Pretty damn good, but against the lambs in addition to being a practice game.

Dunno how long. 10-16, 188 yards, 2 TD no picks. One of the TDs was a little dumpoff to a kid named Brown who took it 61 yards.

I definitely fell asleep watching the second half, but Luck's second TD was far more impressive. He looked off the safety and threw a 23 yd bullet to Austin Collie in the endzone.

Matt Cassel went 5/6 for 67 yards. Listening to the radio today and they've pretty much crowned the Chiefs superbowl champions.

People pay WAY to much attention to the preseason:)

*edit: Should have read the first comment:)

Yeah, its a little different for the QB's in preaseason, especially ones who have never played a down in the NFL. STL blitzed him and showed him all kinds of coverages and he always made the right read and threw the ball away instead of trying to make a play.

The kid looked real good. INDY looked downright different as well. Much more physical along the lines, solid run blocking, and quality QB play. Plus, they have some decent receivers that they picked up.

INDY is not going to SUCK like they did last year. Mark it down. They might not be world beaters or even make the playoffs. However, they will be very competitive IMHO. Much better than most people think.

FYI, Donald Brown is the Colts starting RB.

Yeah, if the 2011 NFL season was a prize fight, Indy threw the fight for the big payoff.

But, I don't care we got PMFM.

entire first half. Very impressive, even in a meaningless preseason game

Was about 1/2 yard away from being a 3TD performance

At this point I think a lot of Colts fans are feeling pretty good about letting Manning go. Should be interesting to see how the kid plays when it counts, but really the Colts did what very few teams have ever had a chance to do: replace a HoF QB with a #1 overall pick who has the potential to be as good as the guy he is replacing. We've spent how long trying to replace Elway again?

He completed another beatiful long pass to the 1 yard line. Could've been 3 TD passes and a perfect QBR. He looked really damn good.

Colts know how to draft QBs: Elway, Manning, maybe Luck....

Of course, if history holds true and Luck pans out, he's due to make a stop here too, ha!

As good as he played I think I liked his interview afterward even better. "I owe him about 20 steak dinners", regarding an incomplete pass to a back up OL in the endzone. "I didn't hold up my end of the bargain on that one.". Great attitude and leader and supposedly has 100% of the playbook already!

I do not have one. I try to never go on rival fans boards. This is the only place I have time to post.

However, I have seen every Colts game since before Manning. Still love Harbaugh.

They also had a shot at Elway! Yah, they should really just let the whole Elway thing go. They've lucked out, litterally, on QBs

Sure Matt Cassel looked good. But he's been in the league a while. This is the first game for Luck. On a 1 win team. After watchin several games of Luck in person over last few years, there's no doubt in my mind that he's better than about 25 or so starting QBs in this league.

It really isn't fair that the Colts have been so lucky with QB's. If it weren't for Elway refusing to sign they would have potentially had: Unitas, Bert Jones, Elway, Manning, Luck. That's disgusting.

That's staggering 5 likely HOF QBs

How many HOF QBs are there total?

If Elway had been there they wouldn't have been in position to draft Manning.

Peyton Who? http://forums.colts.com/index.php?/topic/9428-peyton-who/

I am not opening that. I don't have to. Indy has the most FAIRWEATHER fans in the NFL. Worst Fan Base EVER for NFL. Well, just EVER IMHO. They treat the Pacers like crap too unless they are in the conference finals every year.

However, they are spoiled. They also hired a defensive minded coach to pair with Luck. One who has figured out that Cover 2 is five years completely out of date and that Hybrid fronts and coverages are the way to play Defense in a pass heavy league.

Polian is so irrelevant. Stupid, arrogant, worthless, no-good, and no-class. Dude should have retired after 2006. He has been nothing but second rate since then. Now, everyone remembers him as only being as good as his HOF QB's could take him. Defense, please.

Now we also know why Elway looked so pained every time Tebow pulled a miracle win.

I think they started Tebow fully expecting to suck for luck.

So BErt Jones will still have a chance for the HOF? Luck, after one preseason game, is destined for the HOF?

Reason I think Luck could end up better then Manning is mobility factor. The only unknown is will injury issues plaque his career we'll see.

What's impressive is what his coaches said. Used the term "photographic memory" and has the playbook covered faster than they've ever seen. Decosta made a comment that he would call several plays in one huddle. Entire drives.

Dude is gonna be insane.

I know blah, blah, blah preseason, but the kid is going to be great. He has about the best footwork I've seen in a rookie QB. He's smart (both game smart and overall), got a strong arm, quick release, he's already making several reads and taking what the defense gives him. Oh and if the play breaks down he runs in the 4.6 range. Just don't see any way short of developing an intravenous drug addiction or suffering a serious injury how he's not the next top tier franchise QB. ***king Colts. It's not fair.

As a Stanford season ticket holder who has seen every collegiate pass Luck has thrown, you guys haven't seen anything yet.

He has absolutely no weaknesses, and possesses every single measurable and intangible you'd want in a franchise QB.

Andrew Luck will be the best QB in the NFL in due time, and it isn't gonna be close.

they drafted some stinkers too. Pagel. Schlichter. George. of course, when you have a shot to draft a QB in the first 5 picks, there's a pretty good chance you'll get a keeper, unless you're Sandy Eggo. ;)

I agree and that was a great plan. We easily could of been 3-13 which still wouldn't of been good enough to suck for Luck but I have faith with Elway at the helm. He realizes the importance of a legit QB.
