View Full Version : Mario Fannin - Serious Achilles injury

Bummer ...Mario Fannin has a "serious achilles injury" from last night's scrimmage.
Lance Ball makes the team as the back up Thumper. Hillman and Moreno will stick as the speed change of pace guys.

Feel badly for Fannin after all that ACL rehab from last year. He's got a step hill to climb now to stick in the NFL!

Could well be ,.. thats ashame he could have perhaps been a solid back for us long term. Maybe he can pull off a DT and bounce back from two years of serious injury to shine, but that's a real long shot now.

Why does Denver always lose speed guys right away :(

Actually it is . Don't we usually have 2 or 3 players on IR by now?

So will someone on the board come up with a preseason hype award named after him now?

you're probably right baja. Anyhow, it seems Fannin just has bad luck too.

And yet some on here think longevity and staying injury free over the course of a decade is nothing special....

The average career expectancy of a RB is like 3 years...maybe 4.

I feel bad for him. I thought he had a chance to be a good RB. Maybe it is just a sign it isn't meant to be.

I was hoping Fannin would make the team and contribute, but I wasn't counting on it.

I hear the Broncos have a job placement connection for the cell phone kiosk at cherry creek mall.

Knowshon is dancing right now. All he has to worry about is beating Ball and JJ.

Yeah, this pretty much sealed that Moreno will make the team as a 3rd down back.

Willis
Hillman
Moreno/Ball

I think JJ probably gets axed the last round of cuts.

Because lots of rbs are speed guys, and lots of rbs get injured.

If you include those who are cut as rookies, etc.

The average running back career length is 6 years, but even that is really, really short when you think about it.

Ouch! That really sucks for him. I hope he has a positive alternative lined up as plan B now.

Tough luck for Fannin. Terrible news. He probably wasn't going to make the team anyways, but this certainly isn't how you want to end the season. Back to back IR's for him. :(

I was so pissed when I saw him not get up. I feel bad for the guy, good talent but a lot of bad luck with injuries.

That's why I don't begrudge a player for pushing for a good contract while he has value.

Ah, he still has to worry about staying injury free. That is his major hurdle now.

Did he score a garbage time TD down 65-12?

I don't think he was hyped any more than Corey Jackson was that one offseason when people who played pickup basketball with him said he was very athletic. Same with Fanin; There were offseason whispers he could play but nothing since - and personally I didn't see anything when I was there.

I do agree unless he did some things they really loved, his career with the Broncos is likely over. Not to sound calloused, but we're talking about a RB that was fourth on the depth chart.

And Baja is right. This is the first major injury of camp and we're almost to the first preseason game. Knock on wood, but the new training program seems to have helped. Take a look around the league and see what teams like the Jags and Vikings are going through.

Watch Moreno get hurt, then subtract any production while placing him on injury reserve. It would be something like that.

Damn i was hoping this was his year to show out and do some very good things for our team.
this almost certainly ends his tenure with the Broncos.
one would think Moreno is a near lock to make the team now unless he just forgets how to carry the ball.

I never understood why people think this is funny. Tatum Bell was managing the Kiosk and he had a job trying to support his family. Why is that so degrading?

I think JJ makes the team. He is also special when in the open field and I can see Manning getting him the ball in certain spots. Of course, if all goes well, that will mostly be in practice since no more of our RB's will get hurt for the remainder of the year. :strong:

We hardly knew ya Fannin. His career probably hanging by a thread. If he got super fortunate he could still make a comeback, but its looking grim for his NFL career.
