Short of whiffing on tebow (actually I loved that), always liked his play.

Don't think he whiffed on Tebow...that was Revis. Leonard whiffed on Royal at the goal line on that drive.

Im not a big fan of his anymore. He is old. He could help on PR/KR,but id rather just keep the roster spot for one of our WR or someone.

The boys at the Fan are thinking this means Q. Carter's injury is a little more serious than the team is saying at this point.

Leonard not getting looks from INDY is ridiculous. Chuck Pagano was the secondary Coach when Leonard started for BAL. INDY has the worst backup safeties in the NFL and he could challenge Zbikowski to start next to the way underrated Antoine Bethea.

Leonard is a field general though and so is Bethea. Personally, I would be very happy to have Leonard next to Mike Adams to start the year. I believe he is having trouble getting medical clearance since every team's docs are different.

Need, no. We do not Need him.

Having a veteran safety who can audible and get your team lined up right, that is a value player however. Not sure how good Adams is with the playbook and if his coaches allowed him to audible in CLE.

I believe Denver has some young safeties. Bruton, Carter, Moore. I say let them fight it out. Let's develop some of the draft picks!!

We could do alot worse than signing Leonhard...he's a vet that has proven himself over the course of his career. He's no Ed Reed, but then again, who is?

I don't understand why anybody wouldn't want Leonard to come in and even make the team. It's not like we're stacked at safety right now. Bring him in, and see what shakes out.

Why the hell not give him a try out? Why would we be bringing him in if there wasn't a decent possibility that we need him. Maybe it's just me, but I trust JDR and JF to make the right decision, period. To those of you giving a flat out NO. How many of you are attending camp on a daily basis..........

yep, this is how I feel. Last time I checked safety was not a position of strength on this team. Yes, it's better but we don't know if it is anything special. I'd be fine with signing Leonard, just don't break the bank for him.

Mediator12

Leonard is a proven football player. He can play safety, return punts, and plays like a demon on ST's. Who does DEN have that can do that? Hell we do not even know if we have any real NFL Caliber safeties on the roster outside of the very inexperienced Mike Adams. Yes, he has been in the league for years, but he has been a spot starter versus starting almost every game he played like Leonard has the past five years.

Leonard also has a lot of playoff experience. He has played in AFC championship games and made the playcalls and audibles for the secondary. The guy is a field general and a great veteran to teach the younger guys the finer points of the game since dawkins left.

Seriously, what's the downside of picking him up IF he is healthy.

SonOfLe-loLang
08-04-2012, 12:07 PM
Yeah..let our crappy safeties "fight it out?" F that, gimme as much talent at the position as possible. if he's healed and can play, he'd be an asset.

Superb signing and IMHO he's our best safety right now, says a lot I know but I go by what you've done in this game and not what someone may potentially do in the future.

I don't know if he's the best safety we have, but I doubt he's the worst. I'm not sure why anyone was against this signing. It provides us with some quality depth and another option for a return man. This is a quality signing.

It's a quality signing until one of the young developing player gets the ax because of him. I still prefer Bruton much more... plus the undrafted kid with the cool name seems like a quality addition to the practice squad. Anyway... I am more optimistic of the overall young talent on this team, and would hate to see one go because of an over the hill S that has been injured a lot the past few years.

But you are right... it is a quality signing in regards to the possible depth. We still don't know the severity of Carters injury. He could be out for 2 weeks like the FO says.. or maybe is worst an they need an able body for the remainder of the pre season... or worst case Carter is out for way longer in which case we would be greatly protected.

Bottom line in my opinion... if Carter is a full go for opening week and beyond, Leonard shouldn't still be on the team by then.

New Broncos safety Leonhard placed on PUP

By Mike Klis The Denver Post Comments (5)

Bronco safety Jim Leonhard is still rehabilitating his surgically repaired knee and was placed on the team’s active physically unable to perform (PUP) list Sunday.

This means he counts against the Broncos’ roster but he can’t practice with the team or participate in preseason games until he’s cleared.

Leonhard suffered a season-ending knee injury in December while playing for the New York Jets.

From PFF via IAOFM:

Leonhard started thirteen games in 2011, grading out at +2.9 overall according to PFF (-0.1 run, -1.9 pass rush, +5.7 pass coverage, -0.8 penalty). That overall grade ranked 17th among all NFL safeties, while his coverage mark was sixth-best; he has also tended to make more big plays in coverage than he allows, and passes are not completed at a high rate against him.

They must really like him if they signed him knowing he'd be PUP listed immediately.

Tombstone RJ

Putting him on the PUP list is probably just a way to sign him, make sure he's 100% and then have him for the regular season. The team doctors must have given the Broncos the green light to do this.
