"The Cleveland Browns have been sold by Randy Lerner to Jimmy Haslam for in excess of $1 billion, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Jimmy Haslam is a truck-stop magnate and the older brother of Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam. Jimmy Haslam is president and CEO of Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot Flying J, the largest operator of travel centers and travel plazas in North America with more than 550 retail locations. He is the older brother of Tennessee's Gov. Bill Haslam, who also worked for the family business before he was elected mayor of Knoxville in 2003 and again in 2007, then governor in 2010.

He also has described himself as a "1,000 percent" Pittsburgh Steelers fan."

I'm sure that people can change their perspective, but isn't there something a little wrong with this?

I wouldn't buy the Cleveland Browns for eight bucks.

I agree. That was the oddest thing about the article; That someone would spend any amount of money on the Browns.

I wonder how long it would take to recoup that $1B?

How much do owners make from football per year?

Well they don't actually recoup the money, they pay it back from all the investers they borrow the money from in order to buy it would be my guess. I'd say maybe 20 years to pay that back. Guess it depends on who they got the money from and how much interest is added to it.

Actually I'm not sure how you go about borrowing a billion dollars. :giggle:

maybe they threw in the short bus?

Browns Fans!!! Here is your chance to own your very own Cleveland Browns Tailgating bus! It is 100% ready to go–you could be tailgating in it next week! Don’t waste your money on a generic bus and then have to spend nearly $2k for the paint job alone. This a 1986 Short-Bus that is the perfect size for tailgating in the muni-lot. It is a regular Chevy 350 V8 GASOLINE engine, with only 114,000 miles on it. I have had the bus for 4 years and have done all the customizations myself. Unfortunately, I have to sell because I can’t make it to as many games as I would like

Ooooh, I remember short bus days! I want me some short bus!

The Short Bus Browns.

That's their new official name from now on.

This. Anybody who wouldn't take an NFL franchise is pretty stupid.

@DarrenRovell Buying an NFL team, even the Browns, is usually a good deal. Why? The National revenue distribution check. Last year, each team got $171.6M.

Can you imagine doing a 1031 exchange on 1Billion? Id transfer this into Pats pocket and buy me the donkeys...and hang out with the two kickers and their rotating herd of strippers.
