San Diego Bay launched 20 minutes worth of fireworks in the span of 9 seconds in an epic 4th of July failure. This is what it looked like

(It actually was probably pretty cool to see)

Thats why they are called the sparklers.
Every year they are supposed to win it all and instead, as usual they shoot their load all at once, and literally flame out.

Did they make LaDainian Tomlinson the honorary fireworks ignitor this year?

I only saw the three columns of smoke afterwards. I can tell you that it was loud, and the ground shook. It reminded me of the onset of an earthquake. It was definitely peculiar.

I was trying to find a Chugger connection but couldn't think of one that made sense. Good Job!!

Pretty weak that it was only supposed to last 20 minutes to begin with. For a "major" city, that's awful. My hometown's fireworks (population of 20K) last over 30 minutes with an insane finale of about 10 minutes.

Chumps.

I used to be on a local town Arts Council and had the job of syncing a live performance of the 1812 Overture to the fireworks because I could read a score.

One year I told them go and the band hit the cue and there was a sputer and pop followed by nothing for awhile until they found the issue but by then the band shot it's wad though they did play Stars and Stripes a couple times through.

The best response: RT @ClappOn (http://twitter.com/ClappOn): pretty sure this means we all get to look forward to another south park episode featuring san diego. #fireworks (http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23fireworks)

Who went to Mile High this year for the fireworks show? Broncos season ticket holders got free tixs.

It was a pretty good show.

We did the Stadium of Fire at Lavell Edwards Stadium. It was awesome. 60K(ish) people, the Beach Boys (who still put on a great show), and easily the best fireworks show I've ever seen.

I saw the Beach Boys play a 4th of July show after a Zephyrs game at the old Mile High, probably 20 years ago.

The Beach Boys are still rockin'? I thought their lead singer ate so much he had to be crane lifted onto stage.

Man, they were surprisingly good - especially for a crowd that size. They have to be in their late-60's, if I am not mistaken.

Your thinking about Brian Wilson's daughter. Wilson is still nuts but not as nuts as he used to be.

Dennis Wilson, the only one who surfed, died back in the mid 80's. I saw them play in 1981 and it was a great show. I was a big Beach Boys & Jan and Dean fan as a kid after discovering Pet Sounds and seeing a made for TV movie about Jan and Dean around the same time.

I watched the fireworks from Coney Island. Started my day with friends at Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest. Beers were flwoing all day, so I couldn't tell you if the fireworks were good or not :~ohyah!:

In before KCdud sees this and tries to explain how you are wrong by launching a bunch of random gibberish at you.

Well, that show must have been put on by the Chargers. "Winning" the first part and then nothing to end it. Top it off, I saw the spectators wearing bags over their head walking to their cars.

To me, 20 minutes seems pretty short of a show for that big of an area. We had 25 minutes for our association of 3k homes. Of course a ton of people come down outside of the area but money coming from just the 3k seems like SD is hurting for cashe.

This was one of the first time in 10 years of being stationed in San Diego that we didn't head out to Coronado Island for the show on base(stupid Wednesday 4th of July). Was pretty crazy to see them all go off at once from our position near SeaWorld and then last night and today to hear all the news about it.

The youngest Wilson brother, Carl, passed away in the 90s from a brain tumor, I believe.

I almost cannot watch Brian anymore, it is so sad that that mind and voice have deteriorated the way they have.

But lots of great music to listen to from their library, for sure.

To show how old I am, they played at my high school when I was a soph.
