Someone on another board was asking if John Elway has a steakhouse in Denver? If he does how good is it? do you need reservations?
Hes from over here and coming to a game.

It's good. I wouldn't say anything special though.

Reservations wouldn't hurt.

The one in Cherry Creek is a notorious cougar bar, the people watching at the bar is amazing:)

Haven't been to the one Downtown.

The one in Cherry Creek is pretty good, one of the better steakhouses in town. And enjolras is right about the Cougars, though they're all over the Creek. North is particularly populated with them.

This. His steakhouse is certainly above-average. Wasn't a huge fan of the ambiance, and you can get better prime rib for cheaper over at Morton's on Wynkoop.

I recently had the Duck Spatzle at Trilium in LoDo, and I would recommend that. The tilapia at McCormicks is amazing....there are some other recommendations I would make if you're wanting to spend $100 on a meal in Denver, which you're likely to do at Elway's.

Yeah, I mean, I get that it's Elway and all that, but for a steakhouse I enjoy The Keg or The Chophouse.

Usually when they slap some players name on a place like that is pretty sub par so above average is a pretty good deal.

Who said anything about Elway's being "above average"? If you strive for "above average" then I doubt you will see the steakhouse be called "Chiefs" or "Cassell's". That would be lying to the public.

For your bang for the buck, you can't beat the Colorado Chophouse.

There's a whole thread about the best Steakhouses in Denver from just a few months ago and Elway's didn't make the short list, other than price.

If you're saying the Keg and Chophouse are better values, ok but they really are not comparable on quality. Elway's uses much better meat, on par with the best, and has really good sides and deserts. As good as the Capital Grille or Del Frisco's? No. But that's the league Elway's is in, which is decidedly better then somewhere like the Keg.

I think Elway's beats Del Frisco's too. Not Capital Grille; that place is the ****ing truth.

As sort of an aside to this: I have found a recipe for an amazing oven-baked / pan seared steak (ribeye). It's nearly as good as restaurant quality. And perfectly cooked to the doneness you desire. Only takes around 7 to 8 minutes too. Tried this when my grill here was out of service - was so good, I had it one night.. and went out and got another to have the next day. :~ohyah!:

If anyone wants... let me know and I'll share. : )

Some of the best value in food is not located along 16th street mall smurf. You might stay away from Mile High then Smurf. It's in the ghetto.

Yea, no doubt. I found an excellent Thai food restaurant in the middle of nowhere-ville. Location doesn't mean bad food.

lol... I agree with you. Some of the best food is in the ghetto. Especially for value. The Buckhorn Exchange is surrounded by the projects, and it's one of the best steakhouses in Denver.

I ate there last time I was in Denver, saw it on Andrew Zimmern's Bizzare Foods or something. Had the rattle snake, rocky mnt oysters and something else for the appitizer, and then antelope. quail and bison on some combo plate. It was great!

I've eaten there, and it's very good. But not on the same level food-wise or aesthetics-wise as an Elway's or Del Frisco's or Capitol Grille. Not even close.

But if you want a cheap steak and a salad in a dirty bowl, and a cash-only situation, this is your spot. If you're like me and like to have good wine with a good steak, find somewhere else.

Oh, and if you're in town on a Thursday and want some good beer with a good steak, Strange Brewing Company at 13th and Zuni (near the stadium) does a steak night with dollar-an-ounce steaks and potatoes with the works. Also some very good beer behind the bar.

OH, and one more thing.

Bastien's on East Colfax is a historic Denver landmark, home of the delicious Sugar Steak, has the 1950's '60's vibe of a rat pack bar, but the ambiance of a true steakhouse. It's not retro, it's vintage. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
