The Broncos have made progress in recent days with Prater on a five-year deal. The team tendered him a 2012 salary of $2.6 million through the franchise tag. Both sides hope a long-term deal is reached in time for Prater to join the Broncos at their mandatory minicamp June 12-14.

They also mention them trying to work something out with Warren and Clady in the article.

5 years would be nice security. If anyone's earned it these last few years, it's him (and Colquitt....hopefully they take care of him before he hits RFA next year). Two guys who can essentially lock down one of the three major phases of the game is huge.

EFB should lowball him with incentives like unlimited cab fares and hookers. Could lower his cap hit.

Wait, really? Are we sure Colquitt has the job locked up?

I like Prater. Frat boy mindset aside. And while his tats are horrible...he didnt go all Scheffler and get his head tattooed.

Thats just all kinds of dumb.

Glad they are talking, Prater is worth a long term deal. As far as his tattoos goes, as long as he likes them I could care less if he was sleeved.

BRONCOS UPDATE: Sources have told me that Prater's camp is looking for around 4M per yer, bonus included. Sides are close at this point.

I think it's too much money for a kicker.

4m a year for a kicker? That's ****ing insane. That's a solid DT signing.

I'm more scared about losing Dustin.

So many strippers in Denver, so little money.

We just paid $4 mil to Warren who didn't play one snap for us at DT last year.

I think it's too much money for a kicker.

it says $4m with bonuses included meaning it's not guaranteed.

I think it refers to Signing Bonus. Which, of course, is all guaranteed.

More than likely they are performance bonuses.

I'd have absolutely no problem paying a kicker $4 million after performance bonuses.

Oh, if it's a performance based contract, then I'm fine.

Elam over his tenure in Denver was always one of if not the highest paid kicker in the game, i have no problem with the team paying for elite talent. a guy you know is pretty much good for 3 any time he sets foot on the field, or that you know your opponent is almost always going to begin their drive from the 20 or farther back is worth it.

you have to figure with an elite leg, this offense should be capable of ending every drive with points. Manning will move the ball at least enough for a long FG attempt from one of the strongest legs in the game or punch it in for 6.

But surely we will bring in some competition at camp.

I know, I was kidding. A clutch kicker is always a commodity not a luxury. Just ask Manning!

I agree no one should get a job outright. Yes he needs competition, but he also deserves a raise.

Prater deserves what he is going to get paid. He is mostly gold and is turning into a very clutch kicker!!!

A kicker that has won more than his share of games for us? Yeah, lock him up, man.

Yes, it's a lot of money, but he earns it.

pay the man, i was spoiled by Elam and everyone and their mama knows how much of a impact Adam V had with the Patriots.

the value of a elite kicker is like automatically putting points on the board when he lines up for an attempt.

Prater is the most accurate kicker in NFL history to this point, for kicks 50 + yards (12 of 16). Last year he kicked 4 game winners for us.

He has done more than many worthless sacks on the team, who got paid a lot more than he did. Pay the dude.
