Kellen Winslow says he's been informed by Bucs coach Greg Schiano that he's "not wanted" in Tampa Bay, and that the team will help him engineer a trade.
Winslow says problems arose after he decided to work out on his own this offseason, even though he insists the Bucs never told him it would be an issue. In reality, Winslow was always unlikely to be back. All of the guarantees from the six-year, $36.1 million deal he signed in 2009 have been paid, while he was thoroughly un-dynamic on the field last season. He'll be released if the Bucs don't find a trade partner in short order. May 21 - 10:05 AM

A "true #1" that only averages about 3 TDs per year, yet will want 5x the money of the guys we already have. If we can't get that kind of production out of the guys on our current roster, then we've got bigger problems.

1) "havent heard any bad reports from him" -- Except being told by the head coach that he's "not wanted?" That's a pretty ringing endorsement.

2) "leaders and studs" -- Winslow is neither a leader, nor a stud.

3) "true number one" -- Winslow isn't a true number one, either.

When I read the thread title, I honestly thought this was about Winslow being "available", like he just dumped some hot wife or girlfriend, and we were going to get some good pics of her. Then I come in here and it's someone suggesting the Broncos pick him up. I feel sick.

As for the actual player, he's not worth the contract he's on, but I think he's better than people are saying. He gets a lot of deserved crap for his rant in College and his biking incident, but since that time he's been a pretty good soldier. :)

All of the guarantees from the six-year, $36.1 million deal he signed in 2009 have been paid, while he was thoroughly un-dynamic on the field last season.

you've lost your mind. he's a dumbass who has one good year, gets hyped up, demands a pay raise and than disappears after he gets it.

Why do people keep saying he has only had one good year? Is it a 1000 yard season for a TE that makes the year good? So did Sharpe only have three good seasons? Ozzie Newsome did it twice and Tony Gonzalez broke it the 1000 mark 4 times.

Here are all four TE's averages
Sharpe REC: 58 YARDS: 719 TDS: 4.4
Gonzalez REC: 77 YARDS: 890 TDS: 6
Newsome REC: 51 YARDS: 614 TDS: 3.6
Winslow Jr REC: 62 YARDS: 690 TDS: 3.2

I'm not suggesting we get him or that he is as good as those guys I listed. I think he is pretty darn solid year in and year out given the guys he has had throwing him the ball.

This is all true. He's decent. Not a "stud" like some say, and not awful. Definitely never lived up to the hype. Adding in the attitude problem and reaction coming out of Tampa, definitely not worth his current contract, and not worth whatever someone will inevitably give up to get him, whether he's released or traded. Just a disappointment all around for someone who is actually crazy-talented.

Bucs trade Kellen Winslow, sign TE

ESPN.com news services | May 21, 2012

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded tight end Kellen Winslow to the Seattle Seahawks for a draft pick on Monday night and signed former Colts star Dallas Clark to replace him.

Earlier in the day, Winslow told SiriusXM radio that first-year coach Greg Schiano was "kind of upset" that Winslow has not been working out with the team during the offseason.

"That's kind of shocking, but that's what it is," Winslow said, adding that Schiano told him the coach "would help me out with a trade."

Winslow has been one of Tampa Bay's best offensive players since being acquired from Cleveland in a trade three years ago. He had 77 receptions for 884 yards and five touchdowns in 2009, 66 catches for 730 yards and five TDs in 2010 and 75 receptions for 763 yards and two TDs in 2011.

Tampa Bay received a conditional 2013 draft pick in the deal, which a source told ESPN.com's Mike Sando is a seventh-rounder that can elevate to sixth-round choice.

Winslow will join a tight end unit that already includes Zach Miller, who Seattle gave a big contract last offseason, and promising young prospect Cameron Morrah, who has struggled with injuries early in his career. The Seahawks lost tight end John Carlson in the offseason after he signed with Minnesota.

One NFL personnel source tells Thesidelineview.com's Adam Caplan that his team put the brakes on pursuing a trade for Kellen Winslow after reviewing his 2011 game film.

"We just didn't think he could be more than a rotational player at this point (in his career) after examining his tape and performance," said the personnel source. That opinion was obviously the majority around the league, as Winslow fetched just a seventh-round pick entering his age-29 season. After six knee surgeries, Winslow's playmaking ability has all but evaporated.

Following Sunday's 14-11 loss to the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow wanted to get the truth out on what had sidelined him for the previous week.

Winslow told ESPN.com Sunday night that his "unspecified illness" was a staph infection.

This is the second time Winslow was diagnosed with staph, and it's at least the sixth known case with the Browns in the past several years.

someone with some sense finally. he who the **** did he have throwing him the ball his whole career. dereck anderson brady quinn ? how is it possible to be any good with those clowns.

His QB situation was terrible (Jeff Garcia, Trent Dilfer, Ken Dorsey, Charlie Frye, etc). But Larry Fitzgerald seemed to do just fine with Derek Anderson throwing him the ball (along with John Skelton, Kevin Kolb and Max Hall). Andre Johnson did fine with David Carr and Sage Rosenfels throwing to him. Calvin Johnson was pretty good with Dan Orlovsky, Jon Kitna, Daunte Culpepper, Drew Stanton and Shaun Hill throwing to him. I don't think Winslow has been in a worse QB situation than those guys (each of them did eventually get upgrades at QB). Granted they're three of the premier WRs in the game, but if you're a good NFL receiver or TE you should still be able to produce even with below average QBs throwing to you. Winslow has had two or three seasons where he produced good numbers, but has never been elite (outside of perhaps 07 when Derek Anderson also made the pro bowl)
