View Full Version : K Matt Prater has not been participating..

K Matt Prater has not been participating in Broncos' offseason workout program. ""There's no message, it's voluntary,'' said Frank Bauer, Prater's agent. The CBA says only the June 12-14 minicamp is mandatory, although Prater is currently not under contract because he has not signed his franchise tag tender. The Broncos did make Prater one, five-year offer prior to free agency, but the dollars were well short what the kicker thought was his value.

A steady diet of strip clubs and hookers aren't cheap, you know.

In all seriousness, kickers could show up a day or two prior to the season to work out the kinks and nobody would really care.

Kicking is very serious stuff that requires a full offseason to be good at.

Maybe we can bring in Long Ding in to put the fear of god into Prater.

I heard the Jags tried him out.

Prater made some huge kicks last year, and he was a bigger part of Denver's winning streak than a kicker would typically be. But he's still a kicker, and one who's made just 80.4% of his attempts with the Broncos, including an atrocious 12 of 23 from 40-49 yards (52.2%).

If you're wondering, Ryan Longwell is available and has made 83.2% of his career kicks, including 72.4% from 40-49 yards.

Steven Hauschka, who stepped in for an injured Prater in 2010 and became Seattle's kicker last season after Denver cut him in the preseason, was good 83.3% of the time in 2011, including 7 of 8 (87.5%) from 40-49. He's also a free agent - perhaps Denver should consider bringing him back.

Besides, PMFM doesn't appreciate drunk/idiot kickers.

The numbers don't tell the whole story. His 2008 season brought down his "Broncos career numbers" cited above.

What the numbers above don't tell you is (1) no other active kicker is better at 4th quarter and potential game winning kicks than Prater and (2) he's one of the top kickoff guys in the league.

Couldn't care less if our kicker isn't in the weight room everyday with the other guys. As long as he does his job on the field he can sit on his ass all offseason if that's what he wants.

Yes Prater is money in the 4th and I love his kickoff distance.

I think with PM we will see less 3-7 games and more 31-21 games.

Honestly, his brother Long Wang is a much better prospect.

agreed. he can show up a couple days before the 1st regular season game and be fine.

of all the potential holes on a team, the kicker is not amongst the most pressing to fill.

however, Prater is deserving of a new deal and should be paid like a top kicker in the league. Denver is at best 4-12 without his leg last season and Manning wouldn't have even considered coming to Denver.

oh i agree, pay the man. he's a beast at K. but he's still a kicker so this being newsworthy makes me say this.
