View Full Version : OT: Anyone else get lured/taken to a drug website when searching the forum?

This is the only website that happens to ever direct me elsewhere, like there is a phishing virus or some sort of computer crap I don't get. If I search the forums (like go through people's posts or use the search function) -- I often get taken to this website: http://drugssurn.com/main

It doesn't happen anywhere else for me online, but notice it has happened to me a lot the past few weeks on the site.

Anyone else have that problem?

Are there idiots out there who actually believe that these tactics will help them sell products, like some fool is going to be so happy that you seized control of their browser and forced them to your site, and their response is going to be to buy your stinking product?

"Gee! These people seem trustworthy. I think I'll send them my credit card."

Ugh... I can see that I"m going to have to do a full re-install. When it rains it pours.

I can spot fight this thing, but they've mucked this thing up good. Please be patient and we'll get this sorted out.

Adblock Plus (prevents your browser from loading potentially malicious content which is what all 3rd party advertisements are, you can white list as you please)
http://adblockplus.org/en/

Spybot S&D (using the immunize functionality does the same thing at the O/S level)
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html

There are tons of products that do the same things. Invest in one (most are free!) to prevent (in many cases) this type of thing from happening regardless of whether or not TJ gets hacked.

I get that problem when I try to search for stuff on google. It redirects me. Lame.

Yes, however, I've found stuff that has been dormant going back for awhile. Much easier to just reinstall the software since it's just files that are corrupted, and there is a newer version available anyway.

I've used Firefox with ABP for years so maybe that's why I never see the stuff here and other places are complaining about.

A few weeks ago they must have tried something different because even with ABP I still had it happend once or twice. But never before and nothing since.

ABP is limited to those domains that are known. It's easy to get around (for a while) if you setup a new domain.

If it's compromised, it's, by definition, not verified =P

Blacklisting is not a sure fire method, but it's miles ahead of just letting your computer download any old thing some website tells it to.

How can it be a problem? I was able to order some really cool Viagra pills for Baja and Old dude, some chill pills for maner That One Guy, get a sports gay guy for Chris and Blart and surprisingly able to purchase TheReverends book all at the same time. Thanks Canadian Legit pharmacy. Used my brand new 40k limit Visa.

Also recommand NoScript. Makes browsing safer and is about the only reason why I have not fully switched from Firefox to Chrome. I greatly prefer Chrome over firefox, but it just doesn't have the add-ons that firefox has and never will because of how it's designed.

I used to recommend NoScript. Unfortunately for most users it's too much of a hassle and they uninstall it anyway. domain blacklisting at least helps prevent a legit site like the mane being a vector for malicious content via XSS.

Plus the majority of sites require JavaScript to function these days -- and it will only continue to get more dependent with the introduction of HTML5.

In related news I totally found an awesome online place to score drugs. They seem legit and were really helpful. All I had to do was let them check my credit rating. Thanks OrangeMane!

Wow. And here I would've felt bad for a guy who had to bring roofies to a hooker party.

But you step up and own it like a boss.

Or maybe this party's just on a budget. :)

Not a good sign if you have to use roofies to get some with hookers.
