He was terrible.

I like him. He's got that terribly "awkward-funny" to him, imo

I think he was going for terrible in that clip.

Except without the funny. I'd laugh if he wasn't trying so hard, maybe, but a cardboard cutout could have done a better job on SNL. Dude couldn't stop staring down the teleprompter and making the same two or three gestures and faces all night long. If going for terrible was what he was aiming for, he nailed it.

I realize it's not very fair to be all harsh on the guy or expect to him to ever be any good at that kind of thing, but I thought it was even more uncomfortably bad than SNL seems to have become lately.

I agree, Reverend... but definitely not as good as Peyton was! :sunshine:

SNL is garbage. The only good bits they put out anymore are the videos, and those go against what the show is supposed to be about.

They need to fire the entire current staff and start over. Not a keeper in the bunch.

He did pretty a good.. but I think Peyton was way better. Maybe the writing had alot to do with it. These last few years of SNL have not been very good.

I dont understand not liking the current SNL. I think this cast is a renaissance of improv talent rivaling the Farley, Sandler, Spade, Norm, etc cast.

Kenan Thompson, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Wiig, Bobby Moynahan, Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Seth Meyers all the way down to hyper talented supplementary guys like Jay Pharoah.

I'm enjoying SNL every bit as much as I ever have.

I like quite a few members of the cast as comedians and actors, but the show itself is often confusingly unfunny to me. Hader, Sudeikis and Samberg blow everybody else out of the water, but Wiig is pretty good as well when she's not just doing her 'strange crazy lady' routine (which is 95% of the time).

I don't understand how the writing is so bad, though. I don't understand how half the skits make it out of the idea room place they brainstorm them up in. I don't understand why Seth Myers feels the need to smirk and grin after every joke. Worst of all, I don't understand how almost nobody seems to know their lines and everybody is constantly staring at the teleprompter, completely breaking up the scene.

Bobby Moynahan kills everything he touches. He's probably my favorite and extremely underrated.

As for the rest, I vehemently disagree. I think the writing's been fantastic at unprecedented levels. You can't win them all but I don't think the show has ever been this consistently funny from bit to bit as long I've been watching since the early Jon Lovitz era lol.

Also, my gf and I were JUST talking about 50 shades of grey and the awkward sexuality before Sat's bit.

The Dateline bits that make fun of how creepy Keith Morrison are also sheer genius.

What Up With That?, ESPN Classic, Scared Straight, Digital Shorts, etc... home run stuff, imo

Well I sure as hell wasn't gonna give that credit to Dennis Miller.

I'd roll with maybe the Carvey, or especially the Hartman era.

Lovitz was maybe the founding member of the Kattan Club. ie guys who never should've left the show because it was the only thing they had goin' for 'em. :)

I almost mentioned this exact skit in my last post. Best one I've seen in a long time.

I should also add that I watch SNL very, very sporadically.

This was the best of a middling to lame skits. Though still second tier to Peyton's United Way skit, that was gold.

This.

I think it's a generational thing. I don't think the old-timers get the new humor that SNL is part of.

SNL is as good as it's ever been.

I don't know that it's generational so much as typical "good ol' days"ism. I grew into adulthood watching Carvey and Hartman and then Meyers and Sandler, and still enjoy SNL quite a bit, although a lot has to do with the host. Had real trouble with the Lindsey Lohan show this time around.

There are truly some skits that suck. Badly, and I think that's what leaves people with the impression that it's not as funny as it used to be.

But when people look back on an era, they tend to only remember the famous/funny stuff and forget all the trash that went with it. But as you watch it real time, you have to sift through all of it, and a lot of people tell themselves "I don't remember SNL sucking like this before"

When the truth is, it did. It's just we don't remember those parts.

And that doesn't just apply to SNL. It applies to the Broncos, History... everything really.
