so where were we supposed to get this extra value from, exactly? when no one was willing to offer the "proper" trade
Ask the Ravens.

You are projecting.

Ask the Ravens.

12 more points in value? Woop, woop.

A lot of people said that there's a large tier of players with similar values from #20-#50 or so. If so, that's fine. Trading down gives you the same player cheaper, and you pick up some mid-round picks, which could be a very good wide receiver or cornerback this year.

However, absolutely no one on this God's green earth thinks the Broncos made out like bandits on either trade, and seeing Ozzy beat us in wheeling and dealing from the same slots is just plain embarassing.

We should do some business some time. I have $50 bill I'll sell you for $100. Let's play this game every day.

Maybe the Ravens picked up more picks, I really don't know. I don't care about the Ravens. How would you like it if we used that fourth rounder on Vontaze Burfict? You would love it, right baby?

Aren't you just a tad bit ashamed that you are 35, but acting like a 16 year old girl who didn't get a car on her birthday?

Nah. I'd asked if you were ashamed of being ignorant, but that would be ignoring the definition.

I was surprised to see David DeCastro ALMOST fall to us. So close. Then again I doubt we would have taken him anyway. IMO he would have looked good in Orange. :(

Still, Worthy, Thompson have to be the targets. I wouldn't rule out Miller either. Didn't someone have inside info and predict our first pick wouldn't be defenses or a RB and not in the 1st round? My hide is still chapped about Perry, he's going to be a beast and we could have taken him. I have tomorrow off so ill be liquored up and ready to roll.. get my post count up in the process... It's pretty sad right now. Excuse my typos... I'm on my phone.

Sounds like good money to me sir. Although, I told my friend earlier, I wouldn't be surprised to see Shanty some how move up to take him. Plummer & Portis.. meet Griffin and Miller.

Yep. That's just the way it worked out. I would have liked the Broncos to get better value than, but hey...

The Broncos can use #57 and 2 4th's to trade up to ~40. We have the AMMO to come away from this looking pretty good if we play our cards right.

Is it more indicative of Denver's ability to negotiate trade or the value placed on players in this years draft? (AKA -- a weak first round) Perhaps both?

Or the fact that they cannot play poker as well as some other front offices. That's my thinking behind it. John stated that they fielded several calls for both picks. If they got the best they could out of those picks fair enough but other teams in and around them did far better and that's the point the majority are trying to make on here.

Defensive Tackles still on the board:

Jerrel Worthy
Devon Still
Brandon Thomson
Kendell Reyes
Alameda Ta'amu

Take two from this list in the second round, and all is forgiven, EFX.

Do you think one of the above lasts to 57??? I think if the intention is to draft 2 of those we'll have to use one of those 4ths to move 57 up.

Well played Xanders. :strong:

The way the board shakes out, The Broncos will be able to draft 2 1st round prospects (trading up with the 101st pick they acquired).

#36: The Broncos can take any number of Offensive players (Glenn, Martin, Konz, Fleener, Miller), who are all 1st round prospects.

The Broncos can then wait for the 5 UT's (Wolfe, Reyes, Still, Thompson, Worthy) to start coming off the board. In reality, any 1 of those DT's could have been 1st round pick. Once they start flying off the board, we will have time to trade up and get one...the MOST the Broncos will have to give up is pick #101.

Congratulations for not reaching EFX!! WE'RE GOIN' WITH PLAN A!

Ask the Ravens.

You do realize that the value the Ravens got was based off of another's teams desire for a specific player, right? Not based on the value of the pick itself. The old trade chart is dead. No one valued any of the players available at #31 as at #29. What is so hard to understand about this? Do you really think there were better offers to be had, but EFX just passed them up? Would you rather us have stayed put at #31 taken a guy who probably would have been available @ #36?

A team may like a player, the question is the value they place on that player. NE valued Hightower enough to give up a 4th, but not enough to give up a 3rd. The Bucs valued Martin enough to swap 4ths, but not enough to give up the 4th outright. Understand now, Corky?

So why didn't Denver just trade with Minnesota and get the #98 pick themselves? They'd be picking one spot sooner in the 2nd and 3 spots sooner in the 4th.

I know, because under the new CBA the 29th pick is worth more than the 25th pick.

I mean trade down a bit in the second round and then trade up to get another second. But you can continue flipping out because the draft isn't run by chart-robots, if you'd like.

I mean trade down a bit in the second round and then trade up to get another second. But you can continue flipping out because the draft isn't run by chart-robots, if you'd like. noone is flipping out,we can get another 2nd by trading our lower rd picks & a pick next yr if need be.

Cordy Glenn works for me. I'm afraid the Rams will take him, or if they don't, somebody will trade up in front of us. The guy's a beast!

How he hell do you know they weren't. The answer is, you don't. See how stupid that is?

Not really. I realize you and half the other Internet Super GMs on this board think EFX are idiots, but they're not going to take a ****ty deal if a better one was on the table. But then again, we see you morons do this every year, you think that a trade that was on the table for Team X to take obviously was on the table for the Broncos to take too, and they were idiots for not making that trade.

To assume that Minnesota was willing to deal with the Broncos simply because they dealt with Baltimore is idiotic when there's no evidence they were willing to move up to #25.

No, it doesn't.

It means that the Broncos thought they could get someone at #36 that was higher on their board than Martin, whether it's a DT, QB, WR, OL, TE, or a RB like Miller.

It only shows Miller is higher on their board if Denver is dead set on taking a RB at #36.

Poe is a boom or bust pick. Mayock has watched all the tape and wasn't enamoured albeit with the right coaching he could be great.

Not saying I watch enough college football to know, but since when is Mayock the end all of what players will be good?

It's very possible they were targeting him or Wilson, traded back, and both were picked immediately afterwards. That's always the risk of trading back.

What is funny is I stated when the Broncos picked at 25, the BPA might just be Doug Martin and a few thought no way, he's not very good, a 2nd rounder at best. Oh really?

Could have had him at the 31st pick, but either didn't want him or didn't realize that Tampa Bay was trading them to get the guy they wanted. Either seems quite possible to me. The latter would be hilarious if true honestly.

I think if the Broncos really wanted somebody that badly, they would have stayed at 25 or 31. I think they liked Martin, but not enough to stay put.

i'm pretty sure you know who they are drafting when you make the trade. If a lie occurs that is a big no no. Pretty sure there was an issue a year or so ago, I believe with the Bears saying they wanted to trade and then not calling it in. Big pissing contest

I'm starting to worry that they are holding these later round prospects to the standards of where they picked last year. I keep seeing talk of them liking but not loving guys and therefore trading down, but that's just how it is usually. The guys you love are usually gone well before the 20th pick because everyone else loves them too. If they are expecting to fall in love with the good but not great players available to them like they fell in love with Von Miller they are flat out delusional.
