Seamus 'Loved' Trips Atop Family Car, Says Ann Romney (http://news.yahoo.com/dog-seamus-loved-trips-atop-family-car-says-230153730--abc-news-politics.html)
By Russell Goldman | ABC OTUS News – 12 hrs ago

Seamus, Mitt Romney's Irish setter who traveled with his young family strapped to the roof of their station wagon, "loved" those trips, despite once getting ill, Ann Romney told ABC's Diane Sawyer in an exclusive interview.

Seamus' 1983 trip from Boston to a summer cottage in Ontario, Canada, inside a dog carrier lashed atop the family's Chevrolet, has become a regular barb in Romney's side and is routinely used by his critics to paint him as uncaring.

Mitt Romney told Sawyer that the Seamus attacks were the most wounding of the campaign "so far," but Anne Romney insisted the dog loved traveling that way and looked forward to trips.

"The dog loved it," Ann Romney said. "He would see that crate and, you know, he would, like, go crazy because he was going with us on vacation. It was to me a kinder thing to bring him along than to leave him in the kennel for two weeks."

Adding to the left's narrative that Romney had little compassion for the animal is a detail from the 1983 trip that Ann Romney confirmed to Sawyer. The dog became sick, defecating all over itself and the windshield of the car, leading Romney to hose them both off before they continued on the drive to Canada.

"Once, he - we traveled all the time - and he ate the turkey on the counter. I mean, he had the runs," Ann Romney said, laughing as she explained how the dog got diarrhea.

In a 2007 blog written during Romney's first campaign for the presidency, Ann Romney said the dog rode "in an enclosed kennel, not in the open air" and compared the experience with a person riding on a motorcycle or roller coaster.

It could be worse than a dog on top of the car.

http://www.politicker.com/2012/04/12/romney-dog-cookout/

Mitt Romney’s latest canine controversy involves his bundler Fred Malek who was arrested over 50 years ago in conjunction with an incident where a dog was killed and barbecued in an Illinois park. Mr. Malek is hosting a fundraiser for the Romney campaign on Monday in honor of Ann Romney’s birthday. Dogs Against Romney, the stealth PAC backed group dedicated to dogging Mr. Romney about the 1983 incident where he put his Irish Setter on the roof of his car, sent a press release this morning pointing out Mr. Romney’s upcoming fundraiser is hosted by “fellow animal abuser Fred Malek.”

Seamus was fine. Of course, Obama's re-enactment of Chevy Chase's signature move from Vacation has made Americans worse off than Seamus:

I was thinking much the same thing..

I have a Weimaraner and if I so much as go near the front door holding my car keys she goes nuts..

as she takes up the entire back seat not much AC gets back there she loves to smell the outdoors with the windows open..

Since she gets about 50% of here sensory input through her nose she gets the side windows partially down on the Volvo and the rear windows all the way down on the mustang convertible.

Used to think it was bad for the dog to allow this, but smell is her thing..

Now allowing a dog to be loose in the back of a pickup IMO is a no no.. To easy for one to get thrown out of the bed..

I'm guessing that their setter is happy as a clam in the crate on the roof. getting all those smells of the country side..

Maybe Mitt can "lash" his wife on top of the car and tour the country, eating bugs at 70 mph since she thinks that's such a great idea.

If I mention ride or touch my keys, my dogs go crazy too but I don't tie them to the roof of the truck. I have a "Colorado" topper and a padded Bedrug liner in my truck. I'll admit it's not the safest way to transport them but they are too large to fit in the cab which still isn't that safe.

It's just common sense you don't treat your animals like that, but that family obviously is lacking what 99% of what everyone else has.
In most states she could be fined and or jailed for doing that to her dog.

Your acting like they put him on a leash and staked him to teh roof of the car..

MOST traveling dog kenels I have seen have plenty of protection from the elements wind, rain and bugs..

Most have grilles to allow airflow, whihc most likely were covered on the front side..

BTW most Setters I have seen are long haired and built to be outside..

If Romney was a Democrat he could be smoking a joint and could have his racist preacher duct taped on the hood of his stolen minivan with a bullhorn , who would then shout obscenities toward other drivers on the rottenness of America while blasting down I70 at 110 miles per hour – and all we would ever hear from the “mainstream” news are crickets chirping…softly: no big deal, no big deal….

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

If, if, if...

If any of you rightards had a shred of pride or decency left, you would stand up to the propaganda of your party and have the guts to simply say, "Putting a dog in a box, strapping it to the roof of your car, and driving a thousand miles on a freeway is a bad thing to do. My dog would constantly want to ride in the back of my truck no matter what the speed or the weather. This is such a non issue but it shows that the election is on. What is funny is this is like beating a dead dog, because this story is old old old. Not a lot different then bringing up Obama's coke snorting. You people realize you can go to prison for having coke right, had he been busted he wouldn't be President right now. Far worst the how Obama transported a dog.

Its great for Obama because he has Air Force one, but thousand of dogs get stuck in the bowels of airplanes for transport. If that isn't illegal I don't see how this would be. As long as dog in a Kennel I bet its not much different from being in the bed of a truck.

If they strapped a dog on top of the car in no kennel then I would be upset like all of you. I'm not saying it was best way to transport a pet. I wouldn't do it. But I also would not dangerously put my dog in the bed of a pickup truck either. My dogdie has a harness, sits in the back seat with the harness hooked to the seatbelts. But i have no kids, if i had a bunch of kids also it would make it tough.

Maybe if you want to judge the man do it by how he has looked after his family. Smearing him over this is childish and ridiculous. It makes for good interent fodder and that is about it.

You're just parroting the right wing talking points. Again. Character issues are ALWAYS major issues in a presidential campaign. Romney has already wounded himself with women and hispanics. During the entire primary he has been unable to shake the perception that he is a cold fish who just finds it impossible to communicate with the average, working man in America. Have Aliens Been Breeding With Our Political Class? (http://www.veteranstoday.com/2012/01/15/mitt-romney-alien-or-psychopath/)

The weight of the evidence suggests that human-alien hybrids are among us. That explains Mitt Romney. He's smooth, suave, handsome – like he was cast in plastic, rather than nurtured in a human uterus. There’s something inhuman in his voice and facial expressions and the way he moves and handles himself. He reminds me of the androids in Disney World’s Hall of Presidents. If I were asked to distinguish between Romney and a walking, talking android simulacrum of Romney, I would pick the one with more gravitas. That would definitely be the android.

Is Romney a plastic shell, operated in real time by a gray alien equivalent of Karl Rove? Possibly. But it seems far more likely that he is, like Ted Bundy, an inhuman human: one of the 2% of males who are clinical psychopaths.

According to psychopathy expert Martha Stout, psychopaths often give themselves away by mistreating their pets. Not necessarily in an aggressive or outlandish fashion; they just fail to exhibit the kind of care that someone with a heart would take for granted. Romney’s treatment of his dog would appear to be a classic example.

Yeah. I read that. When he was a child in Indonesia somebody gave him a taste of dog. He wrote that it was too tough. I ate some dog in Korea, when I was in the army. Didn't like it. Obama's right. It was too tough. I like beef. And chicken. And pork. Still, I wouldn't strap any of those animals to the roof of my car, wet, and drive a thousand miles either.

Complete BS but I know how we can show you how stupid that remark is. Have your buddy strap you on top of his car inside a "kennel" and drive from Chicago to New Orleans, then report back here on how riding inside a covered truck bed with foam padding and carpet is the same thing.

So all truck beds are covered, and everyone has foam padding? I see dogs riding in uncovered truck beds all the time. The law doesn't seem to care.

Most dogs love riding in the open back of a pickup. I never really had a pickup for my old dog to ride in, but if you cracked the window, she loved sticking her face out into the wind.

In hindsight, I guess some of these dog tasters would've wanted to issue a citation and demand I buy a 5-point backseat dog harness.

I know that when I get the hose out in the back yard the "Supposed water dog " Weimaraner takes off to the opposite end of the yard..

and when the keys come out of my pocket and I'm near the front door I have to fight her for who goes out first..

If their dog jumped into the kennel when he saw them getting ready to go on vacation, I'm putting my money on he liked it..

but then I guess they should have consulted our resident dog whisperer before making the trip.. to see if he liked travelling like that..

RIF

"Once, he - we traveled all the time - and he ate the turkey on the counter. I mean, he had the runs," Ann Romney said, laughing as she explained how the dog got diarrhea.

Again RIF..

the dog did what dogs do ate something he got his paws on and got sick..

no brain surgery there.. and I suspect the dog felt better because he was not laying and covered in fecal matter..and the car was greener after getting hosed down.. less wind resistance..

This is embarrassingly stupid of you to assert – not because you believe it, because you likely don’t, but that there might be 1% (the protesters of capitalism) for example, who might think your post makes sense. Romney is guilty of being plastic – that’s all – and I would imagine if one is in the media’s crosshairs all of the time one would be inclined to become ever more plastic…

Bob
04-18-2012, 05:40 PM
Again, I have to assert the obvious -- if this is what you have, that Romney is mentally deranged because of doggy travel-gate? You might have to make up something. How about you try asserting that Romney's wife has never worked because she only raised 5 good kids -- I think you should try hammering that one, it will appeal to the 1% as well.

The Right wants us to think Romney's little dog story is a non-issue. The American Kennel Club doesn't think so:

When asked about today's Dogs Against Romney protest outside the Westminster Dog Show in New York City, American Kennel Club Spokesperson Lisa Peterson said she was aware of the Romney story.
"The AKC promotes responsible dog ownership [and] putting your dog in a crate for car travel is the first step toward responsible dog ownership," Peterson said. "The second step would be to put that crate in the car," she added.

Sure, it's a little strange.

Then again, I think it was a little strange that back then, I had never worn a seat-belt, in my entire life. Today, I wouldn't drive down up the block without one.

Back then, toddlers would ride with their brothers and sisters in the back of trucks. Today, you wouldn't take an adult on such a ride, unless you wanted to get ticketed. You sure wouldn't take a toddler on a ride in a car unless she was in a carseat. Back then, carseats didn't exist. Things have changed.

I am an animal lover. My animals run my house. But I don't think this is a big deal. Would I do it? No. But think about a few other things:

Do you think it's inhumane to put your dog in an airplane? Is it okay to put them in their kennels, so that they can spend six or seven hours in a loud place, like a cargo hold?

Do you generally freak out when you see cows or horses being transported in the backs of trailers?

Would you feel the same level of outrage if you heard he had driven around farm and ranch land with a dog in the back of a truck?

First, let's keep it in context as something that happened in a totally different era. And second, let's keep it in context as something that is really pretty inconsequential, in the big scheme of things.

The Obama eating dog thing is similarly ridiculous.

Great attempt, but none of those examples fit and there is no excuse. No, I wouldn't have put my dog in a box in the 80s or 70s and gone down the freeway at 70mph with him tied to the roof of my car, and then, when he **** all over my car, I wouldn't get out, hose him down, and continue on down the road another few hundred miles with my now wet dog tied to my roof.

I think it is an important fact because it speaks to the character of the candidate who is already felt to be aloof, disconnected, and cold. It's certainly no less relevant than the mountains of **** that have been thrown at Obama for three years.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think that if it shows anything negative, it's maybe a bit of ignorance towards how to care for the animal. I know enough about the Romney family (from first-hand experience, with some of the boys) to know that they are decent people.

And, for what it's worth, I agree with you about Obama. You won't find a single post on here where I've participated in some of the strange, petty stuff that gets tossed around about him.

There is only one way for Romney to come out good on doggygate. He will have to rebuild the doggy chamber, make it a bit bigger, bolt it to the top of his campaign bus, then go on a 12 hour ride on top of it city to city, stopping at dog shelters along the way and giving them money and doing a speech.

We will call it the apology to fido tour 2012. Sometimes along the way he can **** himself and then the crowd can hose him down.

For Obama it's easier he just has to promise he will tell his home country of Indonesia to stop forcing kids to eat dog.

You mean Obama is going to eat his children? Now, that would be bad form...
Stupid attempt at what, I don't know.

You asked for an issue i gave it to you. A President that can piss both sides off would be a good thing. At least he won't pander like Obama does.

No, I asked you to provide ONE issue he "worked both sides with" from your post that praised Romney's bi-partisanship.

All you provided was your regular BS in response.

Maybe because I've yet to join the ranks of the lobotomized Fox News lemmings.

Poor guy.

Different views = no problem.

Being friends with organized crime (which, let's face it, is what the GOP really is) = not OK.

Another post that proves my point.
You're the one who posted that's what you do if you weren't working.

It's really doubtful you really have any "point" if you're getting high all day long which seems obvious from your posts, is the case.
