I was noticing a lot of stories recently about his kid and had a feeling it was being pushed just before he called it. A "I'm not conceding that I lost but I have things to take care of" sort of way. No surprise that it happened.

So I guess it's Romney now. Wow. Just wake me when it's 2016.

That just means in a few years you're going to get Toxic Tom Corbett from PA.

The crazy part for me is that I would've hated Santorum as the guy worse than I do Romney but now with Santorum out, the reality is setting in that it's pretty much over and the presidency will be Romney vs Obama. It's better than Obama vs Santorum but still wretched. I guess I was hoping for something completely random to happen by now.

how annoying is it to hear guys arguing against each other's POV, when in reality they're arguing for the same thing(s)?

Santorum will be back in 2016, I suspect.

I will miss his utterly made-up bull**** that he regularly pulled out of his ass. Effing hilarious.

How long can the Rs avoid marginalization if people like Santorum are at the forefront of the party? You'll lose everyone that's not socially conservative and that'll gut the party.

I wonder for how long the GOP can remain viable as their base consists of a shrinking rump of the electorate - evangelical Christians, the extremely wealthy, and poorly-educated blue-collar white men (whose prejudiced fears the GOP constantly plays on).

Perhaps the GOP's catering to the extremely wealthy provides them with sufficient monetary sustenance to maintain themselves, but the GOP is ignoring - and vilifying - the larger sections of society - women, Hispanics, non-Christians, African-Americans, white-collar professionals, the college-educated, homosexuals, Asian-Americans, and so on.

It used to be that the GOP was the party of the businessman and entrepreneur - more interested in policies that enabled their business interests to grow and get access to markets. However, the social conservative wing of the GOP today overrides the let's-just-get-to-business wing, with its overblown rhetoric, anti-individual-rights legislation, and near-total rejection of moderation and compromise.

You act like this same pulling by the fringe on the left doesn't lead to the same types of problems for Democrats.

This sort of deflection in response to his post is a perfect example of why your party is on a countdown to extinction.

That about sums up the social interference that is defining the GOP right now.

It's time for the GOP to get back to its roots and shake off the evangelical blowhards.

There have always been two parties. There probably always will. Each party has gone through several "extinctions" only to come back with different ideas to win back the people not committed to the other party. That's why they've gone through so many changes throughout the years.

I agree. Hopefully the next round of party leaders run on qualifications rather than purely religious preachings.

But why in the world is the party currently trying to be the party of God while the influence of religion is shrinking everyday? You'd have better luck starting a "leave Vietnam now" movement.
