It was fun while it lasted...

The tea party may have won Republicans the House of Representatives in 2010.

In 2012, it’s looking like it could help Democrats retain the White House.

The tea party movement, now nearly three years old, has fallen out of favor with Americans. And Democrats are prepared to use it against Republicans in the 2012 election.

A recent Fox News poll showed just 30 percent of Americans had a favorable view of the tea party, compared to 51 percent who viewed it unfavorably.

A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll may be more illustrative, though. It showed Americans were more evenly split on the tea party, with 44 percent supporting it and 43 percent opposing it. But just 15 percent of Americans supported the tea party “strongly,” while many more – 26 percent – were “strongly” opposed to it.

That suggests opposition to the tea party is more strident than the tea party itself, which means the movement may be doing the GOP more harm than good.

What I find hilarious is that the Republicans actually believe they been holding a valid, political debate for the last year. The voter turnout in some of these states has been 4%.
Four percent! That's a joke.

I'm not so confident. They have a strong base, tons of money, and an established media network.

"Tea Party" turns up more hits on google news (http://orangemane.com/BB/news.google.com) than "Occupy".

Voting them away isn't enough, anyone who cares enough to post here should also be doing canvasing or call centers for local progressives.

I think the Tea Party is inflated by the numbers of people who want to just cut other people's costs. Not nearly enough want to take from their own pockets. For example, everyone speaks of Ron Paul getting the most donations from military but what would happen if he said his first order of business would be to gut defense spending? All those people would flock elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the party that wins these days is the party that makes the most promises of rewards. That's the antithesis of the Tea Party so you can never expect them to actually accomplish anything.
