Chiefs Lilja: everyone wants to crown the Broncos, but Matt Cassel is taking us places

Chiefs' Lilja offers a full-throated defense of quarterback Cassel
www.sunherald.com

ďBut Mattís the guy, and Mattís going to take us places. Mattís a general in the huddle. People donít see how hard he works. They donít see the stuff he plays through, because we donít talk about it. But take my word for it: There arenít many guys Iíd rather play with.Ē

ďIím perfectly content with the Denver Broncos and their situation and them bringing him in. Theyíre already building Lombardi trophies for them, it sounds like to me. I like that. Nobody thinks we can do much. Thatís kind of a fun place to be in. Time will tell.Ē

Part of the fun of being a fan is the ability to gloat when your team wins in the offseason.

Fact: the Chiefs desperately wanted a shot at Peyton Manning. They didn't even make it past the rope line.

Ryan Lilja can delude himself all he wants (and he probably needs to in order to wear ketchup and mustard every Sunday), but the only place Matt Cassel is taking the Chiefs is to the bottom of the AFC West.

Cassel couldn't even win when the opposing QB only completed 2 passes. He's a loser.

Anyways, LOL @ their pathetic franchise.

Yeah I haven't seen anyone picking us to win it all. Most of what I'd read has said that the Broncos pulled off a coup or that Manning should have signed somewhere else.

I am crowning the Broncos. Just ask my friends. They all get pictures of Manning holding a Bronco jersey, and SB trophy pics, texted to them at least once a week.

Cassel will be the reason they don't have a chance.

Cassel will take them places. Straight to a top 15 pick in the 2013 draft and home in January on an annual basis.

Typical comment of a teammate defending his QB. Chiefs have a lot of talent, but I highly doubt it will be Cassel 'taking them places.' Much more likely that if the team wins, it's in spite of Cassel's mediocre at best performances.

I still think the Broncos will take the division.

What part of ANY QB don't you get? Grossman and Sanchez have both had success at times in the NFL with proper talent around them. It's not that complicated to understand.

Any pro-leve QB can look effective if you put him on the 2009 Pats offense.

Thing is that the next playoff game Matt starts in will be his 1st. Kinda like Brodie Croyle only it was his next NFL win will be his 1st.

He took over a Patriots team that went 18-1 the season before and couldn't even get them to the playoffs.

"In Manning's career postseason success, he is an astounding 9 wins to 10 losse's in the playoffs. One would figure a 'supposed' top 5 QB of all-time would have a winning record when it counts."

He lifted the lowly Colts though. Doing what he did in Indy was amazing. They stunk bad before he got there for yrs and yrs.

It would be like a QB making winners out of the Chiefs now. 9 playoff wins would be 9 more then Chefs have done in same time frame right? Now that Manning has a real team you will see what happens.

Chiefs better hope Charles goes off again, but how many do yr after ACL?

What he did in Indy was no different than what Elway had to do in Denver when he was surrounded by complete **** and a few gems in the mix.

18-22 as a Chiefs starter is hardly eye opening numbers. Lol at a Chief fan pointing out Manning's mediocre playoff record... when KC is 0-3 since he's entered the league AND when 90% of your fan base was wetting their undies at the mere thought of him being a Chief.

Yes, the Denver Broncos (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=den) want Jay Cutler (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=9597) to return for a little sit down to mend fences after the team's reported failed attempt to trade for New England quarterback Matt Cassel (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8644). Cutler won't have any of it after the two sides spoke by telephone Sunday.
