This is the NFL's "example" punishment for the other 31 teams. They're basically saying this stuff ends right now. I bet they are able to appeal this in some measure to get some of the games back, but wow. Armageddon for the Saints.

I think they maybe give him a couple years and threaten that any offenses after this point (for anyone) will be lifetime.

If they set a precedent for lifetime, the league could get ugly because you know stuff like this was going on elsewhere.

That's exactly what it is. I was expecting a 4 game suspension for Sean Peyton, maybe a 100K fine. I was expecting something similar for Williams, but maybe a bigger fine. I thought they'd lose a 3rd rounder.

This is the NFL stepping on a franchise's throat to put an end to something that has been going on in locker-rooms since before there were face-masks.

BS, what did the Broncos get for NOT breaking any rules. If I was Goodell I would have taken their 1st round picks and fined them in the millions.

They won a SB with this crap. They put players careers in jeopardy. Sorry, this is NOT a crippling punishment.

I disagree. Not bringing Brees back is crippling. They can promote an assistant for one year and be fine. Sean Peyton didn't win jack crap without Brees.

This is nothing, especially for the way the Broncos were fined for NOT breaking any rules back in 1998.

First of all, the analogy was a joke.

Second, it IS big punishment. We haven't seen this before. I'd venture to guess that most would also agree that this is big.

Players try to injure players in every game.....simply by hitting them as hard as they can.

The line is drawn between the legality/illegality of the hit.

It wouldn't be a flimsy Al Davis "for cause" firing, Benson wouldn't have to give him a dime if he truly ordered it to stop. If Benson doesn't can him, it will actually raise the question if Benson is covering his own tail but making sure Loomis and Payton don't rat him out.

Williams said when the story came out he knew all along it was wrong. Maybe he was hoping by admitting guilt after the fact his punishment would be lessened. Payton also knew all along what was going on. I think what really pissed Goodell off was the league inquired about it and they shined him for two years. He put trust in their word, and they shined him. If he had an ounce of more proof against Loomis or Benson he'd go after them harder.
