I'm personally having a problem registering that anybody could possibly be against improving our team overnight by adding a QB of Peyton Manning's caliber. Driving a Delorian might not be in my best interests for the long term, but if I get an opportunity to do it, I'm going to take it.

Exactly. If you don't necessarily want to sign a 36-year old QB to $100M contract, even though he USED TO BE the best QB in the game.....then that somehow equals ONLY loving Tebow and not the Broncos.

:loopy:

What I really love is thinking that signing Manning wins us the Superbowl....all other things being equal.

As someone said......even if the Delorian has dents, rust and belching black smoke?

And are you saying here, that signing Manning might not be in the best interest of the team long-term??? In that, we agree.

Don't get me wrong.....I'm be somewhat excited if we sign the guy. I'm just not delusional in thinking he solves all our problems.....not even close. I don't think we even get any closer to a Superbowl. Maybe a loss in the division round.....just like last year.

Eddie mac has it right.....if we get Manning, then we have to go ALL IN. Get a much better surrounding cast, too. Go for broke.

Don't just get Manning, and then pat yourselves on the back.

I whole-heartedly agree that if we do this.....and we don't win a Superbowl, then it can only be chalked up as a complete failure. Therefore, we should be a lot more active in FA than we have been.

I see it as unnecessary desperation. I don't think we're going to win a SB with Manning. It's very unlikely. We need this season to see if Tebow is that guy while we continue to add pieces in the draft. If he's not, there's Barkley next year among others.

I think we've got too many holes to compete for a SB even with Manning. I'd rather build a consistently competitive team for the decade than spend a lot of cash on having a shot for a year or two.

Its mind blowing that someone could look you right in the eye and say "I think Tim Tebow makes the team better than Peyton Manning. Tebow has the ability to win with this team, but Manning can't."

He's too old? Elway was basically at the same point in his career when he won his superbowls.. He's hurt.. Why the hell are teams mortgaging their stadiums to get him then?

Is Peyton manning going to be available next year? No. Is anyone his caliber going to be? No. Your saying you want to pass on arguably the greatest QB ever, a guy you will never again get a shot at, on the chance the Tebow MIGHT get better? He ended the season 1-4 and put up three points against KC in the biggest game of the year and that earns him the right to be picked over manning??

I've seen enough of Both QB'S to know Manning at the end of his career >>>>>>>>>> Tebow. I also know we are a better offense next year with Peyton Manning than we are without him. I'm saying that it's a short-term move to bring in a guy that has 3 years TOPS, and that's if he's healthy.

I'm saying that I'd like to see more attention to the defense, cause that's what wins championships.

I'm saying that I don't want to see Denver spend $25M/year on a guy with nerve damage, when no QB in the league is getting close to that. Another poster said it.....it reeks of desperation.

I have no loyalty to Tebow, nor am I a Gator fan from Florida. I've been a Broco fan for 30+ years ("diehard" for 25+ years, so yeah, Tebow is not my reason for being here). I do think he provided us with some of the most exciting football in years.....and I THINK he'll get better. Will he ever be as good as Manning? No. But that's not the point. People are willing to toss him out when he hasn't even had an offseason to build chemistry with the starting offense. I'd like to see how he does with that before we say he's done.

If he fails, then yes.....I've said many times that I'd move on. I have no problem with that. But it seems we're letting go of a guy that clearly has POTENTIAL......and to let go of that before we see what he can do, is irresponsible, imo.

Now.....if we KEEP Tebow in addition to signing Manning....I'd be all for it.....but everything I read says we'd dump him. Then we'll be looking for a QB in 3 years again.....Champ will be done, etc......the LONG-TERM rebuild will take longer, IMO.

As far as your comments.....Manning WAS the greatest QB in the game, and nobody really knows how his recovery is going. That's a big gamble if you ask me. I've also said, however, it would be exciting if we got the guy....I've also said that I've always been a fan of his, unlike many Bronco fans.

One last this is an issue of VALUE and LONG-TERM strategy for me......and paying a guy that much at his age is bad for both. If it's $15M....that's another story....if we keep Tebow to learn, that's also another story......that's where I'm coming from.

The "Stupidity" photo was in regards to the comment directly above it.....that Manning will solve all our problems....but maybe you missed that. The shark......well, it's just a shark. It was used more for the "STUPIDITY".

As far as the rest of what you say......I've said the exact same things....Manning is clearly better than Tebow, I'd love Tebow to learn from him, etc.

That is not the same as saying we should pay him whatever he wants and dump Tebow, too.

Additionally, nobody, not one single person has said that Tebow is better than Manning.....at least not that I've seen. I'm starting to wonder where you guys are getting that.

Yes, if Tebow can learn from Manning....GREAT. But, as I've said....all I've read is that he'd be traded if we brought in Manning. Why? That would be the dumbest part of the entire thing. What an opportunity to take a guy with Tebow's work ethic, and have him learn from the GOAT.

THAT would be the best scenario......

We're probably not as far apart in our assessments as you think......

Problem is that it's usually the case that guys at the end of their careers are better than guys who are just starting out. Because experience matters. People without experience rarely win right out of the gates But you have to live with it until they get the experience to improve.

In the NFL (or anything for that matter) you build based on potential. Not based on repackaging already finished products. Especially when those products have a shelf life of 2 years at best.

That's the entire point....is he a "rebuild"ing tool? Or a "win now" tool?

He is NOT a rebuilding tool at his age....so he's a win now tool......but that's the problem.....we don't have a good enough roster to WIN NOW.

Teams like San Fran, otoh, do. That is a team that should want a guy like Manning...to put them over the top.

But as far as the rest.....I hear ya. I guess we just disagree as to the liklihood of Manning bringing us a Superbowl in the next 2 years. In 14 years, he brought Indy ONE, and we're talking about possibly the G.O.A.T......ONE Superbowl. In two years, what are our chances?

Tebow CAN still improve immensely, and I'd just like to see how much before we toss him in the trash......Manning will NOT replicate what he did in 2004 with his passing records.....i.e. we are not getting the Manning of old. That being said, we agree that the offense will improve a ton......I just don't think enough to win us the big one. Again, far too many holes to fill on this roster. And by the time we DO fill all those holes......Manning will have a FO job somewhere. And the $90 M we spend on Manning could bring in a lot of other much needed talent.

This is all I expect out of Manning on this current roster. I can just see manning running away with about 30 Mil this season alone after about 5 starts to be benched for tebow. He and elway will be run out of town, onlyu it will be manning doing the laughing like the Mayhem dude...

The Colts went from perennial playoff team to the worst team in the league when Manning was out. We were in the playoffs last season. I'm not saying we don't have our issues, but I really do think he's a game changer.

That's honestly how I feel. If we get him.....fine.....now let's fix our other issues.

If not.....fine....let's move on....and now let's fix our other issues.

Seriously.

You say build a defense like thats the only thing that will win games. Ask Baltimore, Tampa Bay, and Tennessee how many superbowls you win with a great defense and a lame QB. Baltimore has had a good to great defense since like 1999, they have 1 superbowl. Tampa had one of the all time great defenses and changed the way defense was played in the NFL, 1 superbowl. Tennesse has been doing it smash mouth run the ball play Defense since the Jeff Fisher starting coaching there...They lost to Peyton Manning every year. Just having a good defense doesn't mean anything more than having a great QB.

You have to have a good pass rush (we do), and a QB that can throw the ball (we don't). Just ask the Giants. They are never pretty, but come playoff time they always show up. Manning would make the Broncos show up in the playoffs, Tebow would continue to TRY and develop. If you don't think we are a few players away from being as good as the Giants, your crazy... Much like Denver they barely made the playoffs last year, and look where Eli took them.

Thats the point.. He has one (been in 2) just as many as the teams with great defenses.

That's another problem. His Super Bowl comes courtesy of Bob Sanders. Manning has throughout his career sucked in the playoffs against any team not from Denver.

Then we'll just continue to disagree.

Clearly a balanced team is important.....we agree on that.

But if you have a below average QB, and a GREAT defense.....I just think it's easier to win in the playoffs with that.....than it is to win in the playoffs with a great QB and a below average defense.

Baltimore has been as consistently good as Indy of the last decade.

Now, clearly, if Baltimore had Peyton.....they'd have 6 Superbowls by now. Hell, if Pittsburgh had Peyton so would they (I'm still in the minority when I say Ben is NOT an ELITE QB)....

Again, to repeat.....I'll be excited if we get Manning.....I just have no expectations of hoisting Lombardis until we fix the many other problems on our team. So don't confuse my NOT bathing myself in my own jizz if we sign him, with not being excited. I'm just tempering my enthusiasm.....that is all.
