I really don't understand the Titans trying to make a move on Manning when they basically have the Next Steve Young in 3 years

Perhaps the young man isn't ready and they would like to have him learn under a legend.

See Favre/Rodgers.

I suspect Jake Locker is going to end his career a lot closer to Jake Plummer than Steve Young.

See Favre/Rodgers.

While not a legend, Matt is a good enough player to learn from. This is all owner getting involved.

**** if hes that stupid Sign Manning and trade him to the Titans for Locker

I would suspect the Titans are looking at ticket sales and a Manning back to Tennessee would probably create a lot of buzz there, but they are not very close to contending, so I would be shocked to see Manning sign there.

I'm thinking how it ended with Plummer is what TJ meant, not a player comparison.

I think a lot of NFL guys believe the league has gotten to the point, with the rule changes and all, that a premier QB alone automatically puts you in serious contention to win it all and considering those guys come available next-to-never: teams see a chance to jump on it.

this guy thinks Manning actually went to the Pro Bowl THIS year...the marbles are not there...he wont even be around when Manning is eligible to take a front office position...if Adams had Rogers he would still be in emotional hysterics for Manning...their FO needs to pull in the reigns on this guy.

what circus? It was only a circus when Vince Young was there... Other than that...Peyton Loves TEN...and like somebody mentioned on this boards, never underestimate the power of a wife.

The circus is the FO wanted to make a play for Super Mario, and Bud Adams likes playing GM, which is how they ended up with Vince Young in the first place.

what circus?

Drafting a QB in the first round (Locker), spending $20 million on a veteran (Hasselbeck), and then going after Peyton Manning the very next year? That's a bit of a circus.

Until he actually does it, he is just the next Jake Locker.

Nope...It's the grooming of a QB. They had no QBs last year. They draft their QBOTF and make him sit behind a vet. Hasselbeck probably wont cost much (cap penalty wise.) They sign a HoF QB (cause those don't become available often) and sit Locker a la Rodgers. What is a circus about that? Don't want to take this thread and turn it into "that" kind of thread, but the Locker situation reminds me of another.

Sort of agree... but...what it also goes to show if you are Manning is how much they/he wants you. Owners have the ultimate word. But when you get to see the college Legend that played in your backyard, turn HoF QB, be a free agent, you go try and sign him. Specifically when you are a 89 year old dreaming of a SB. His coach and GM understand that.

And it's not a situation were the coach wants nothing of Manning, maybe he never thought about Payton playing for a division rival (the reason I think it wont happen. Peyton is no Favre). They have a solid roster, a Owner in a win now attitude, and the place were he is loved, his wife is from, and were they can actually set roots and raise their kids.

cutting hasselback costs them 4 million in cap. Jake Locker carries a 3 million cap for 2012. Figure in Manning who CANNOT BE BACKLOADED because of the neck, and you have around 30 million in cap out of a total 120.6. That's a circus.

And, Chirs Johnson's cap for 2012 is ten million.

Sry...just don't see it. Hasselbeck is expendable, Locker is on the cheap for the next 4 years. They still have 30 mill in cap and that's more than enough to get Manning without a backloaded contract. Their situation (contract wise) is no different than ours, or others around the NFL.

the reason they didn't with the division wasn't qb, who passed for 3500 yds, it was chris johnson being hurt. Now they have the opportunity to add the best dlineman in the league, and the bat**** crazy owner blows up in their faces. LOL

Agree if we were talking about Jones or Davis, even Wilson. He just like us, wants a HoF to improve his chances of getting a SB. I am sure that is something his coach and gm understand and want too. Plus, Mario Williams o Peyton Manning? Specially when you had a solid DEF like last year and draft picks to make it better.

UberBroncoMan

Yeah. The Titans were absolutely not going after Manning until Adams threw a fit. They had Matt and Locker getting his learning experience. Were prepping to get Mario Williams, etc.

Yeah....this sure sounds like a coach that wasn't or isn't interested in Manning...

The team is confident in Munchak's ability to recruit -- the coach was a major reason why Matt Hasselbeck landed in Nashville last year. And Palmer was Eli Manning's position coach with the Giants from 2007-09, so there is a familiarity with him and the Manning family.

Yeah.. I think its the Owner wanting to make a statement to the Titans fans.. that he is trying to win.. what better way to express that then by going after Peyton Manning.. a proven winner.

That doesn't really prove that Manning was part of their long-term goals.
