President Barack Obama cannot escape the following seven gas-related facts:

1. In September 2008, Barack Obama’s”Nobel-prize winning physicist” of an Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, told the Wall Street Journal: “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

2. In 2008, then-candidate Barack Obama admitted that, like his future Energy Secretary Mr. Chu, he believed that high gas prices would be a good thing because they would force Americans to ween themselves off of oil, but that he would have “prefered a gradual adjustment.”

3. On January 19, 2009, the day before Barack Obama was sworn in as President of the United States, gas prices were $1.84 a gallon. As of February 20, 2012 a gallon of gas cost $3.59.

4. As Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson points out, “Offshore drilling permits are being issued at less than half the rate of the previous administration. The average number of leases issued on public lands is less than half than during President Clinton’s term.”

5. In 2008, Barack Obama seemed perfectly comfortable with soaring energy prices if they meant curbing green house gas emissions. As Mr. Obama confessed: “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

6. As seen in the video below, Obama’s own 2008 campaign rallies actually cheered higher gas prices because they would “force us to think about changing the culture to create more emphasis on mass transportation.” Following the sustained applause, then candidate-Obama proceeded to laud Europe (not unlike his future Energy Secretary Steven Chu) for its rail system.

7. Try as he might, President Obama’s campaign will try to distance themselves from the fact that a central pillar of Mr. Obama’s 2008 campaign was a pledge to reduce the “pain at the pump” caused by high gas prices. However, videos such as the one below reveal the extent to which Mr. Obama promised that, if elected, he would bring down the cost of gas for “everyday Americans.”

Missing no opportunity to invoke class warfare, Mr. Obama said: “For the well-off in this country, high gas prices are mostly an annoyance. But to most Americans, they are a huge problem, bordering on a crisis. Here in Indiana, gas costs $3.60 a gallon.”

when gin is $10 a bottle, everything is cool.

when gin goes to $100 a bottle, Houston, we have a problem.

truth is we need to get off the gin. how we do that is not easy.

How long did it take for us to get off whale bubbler when oil was discovered? Now you want people to drop oil when everything is done on oil. I'm not saying "lets keep doing what we are doing", but you are asking to straight up cold turkey.

I won't lie. I don't mind high gas prices if it makes the traffic go down. I see people everyday clogging up the freeway and know they're probably traveling ~60+ miles for work.

I'm a pretty cheap fella so I can afford the gas. I'm much more annoyed at being gridlocked on the freeway. I also wouldn't mind a realistic alternative to airlines as they're just becoming too much of a hassle.

But the question is, is everyone paying their fair share?

im voting for Newt! dude said he could get us to the moon and give us $2.50 a gallon gas. While that evil muslim obama will give us $10 a gallon gas!

Maybe Newt knows something we don't - the moon is full of oil! - not the crappy kind that comes from decomposition of organic matter but some new awesome variant.

War against Iran, $2.50 gas, a moon colony and anticipated admission of the moon as the 51st state - how could you not love this guy?

I guess you would just teleport the oil back to the U.S., right? Hilarious!

Just go to the electric car so we can go 40 miles off a 10 hour charge and get more dependent on coal instead.

A successful electric car has to be just around the corner. There's too much incentive and too many prototypes for them not to get a successful model soon. It'll be a complete game changer.

And if we eliminate gas, we can focus our efforts on more solar, wind, or maybe more nuclear power.

Of course, electric means cheaper which means more cars on the freeway so I'm opposed... but your mockery sounds ignorant or maybe facetious.

yeah but electricity is made by burning oil so really it only changes where its burnt at unless the electric cars are more efficient, which i heard they aren't. By the time you calculate making the battery, charging it over and over etc etc.

Electricity doesn't have to be made solely by burning oil. I said in that very post that once the electric cars are going, we can focus on innovations leading to more solar, wind, or nuclear power. The notion that electricity has to equal coal can easily be a thing of the past once the top minds are really focused on it. If we get electric cars settled, electricity would be the currency that mattered and capturing it for free would be the golden ticket.

Less than 1% of electricity comes from oil.

Another pointless thread from epic fails replacement. Congrats Bobo you've beat fail as the most useless poster, and you did it in less than 4k posts. Everyone of them painful to read and without any real point other than you hate Obama. Ok we got it, move on. You've got a plethora of shi**ty Republican losers to choose from, think out of the box and go for it!

What a great point? Forget about what has Obama said, forget what Obama has done. Did you know that Obama has argeed to less then half the leases signed than in the Clinton Admin. Keep it up. Keep it up.

Its a pipe dream that solar and wind can work. Calif has abandoned wind farms because they just don't make money. Nuclear could work but after watching Japan, not sure that will be something USA goes big into. We could do it with cleaner burning coal, co2 sequestering, but people seem cool on coal. Solar is intriguing, but when you read about it it really is only producing what? maybe 1 % lol of our electricity.

Plus like i said its the co2 caused by digging out the raw materials used to make batteries. A lot of greenies don't want to add that part of the footprint into the equation. Not saying electric cars not a good thing, just saying for the bang, you pay more buck, and I'm not sure it actually uses less co2 if the full equation is factored in. Or if it does it might not be as much of a boon to co2 reduction as people think.

And of the things you mention, I know little. Just commenting that the energy side of it could be solved fairly quickly, I believe.
