View Full Version : Tebow The Politician

It struck me this morning that Tebow is positioning himself for a career in politics. The squeeky clean image, the reputation that has raced far ahead of his accomplishments on the field, etc. The guy is a demigod in the SE, and could probably be elected Governor in Florida right now if not for age restrictions. Football is a stepping stone and a platform for him to get his word out, little more. I wonder how important it really is to him beyond his initial enrichment and spreading his fame. Kind of scary, really. Tebow for president? Yikes.

Aren't both of his parents US citizens? I don't think place of birth matters if that is the case. There would be plenty of military children excluded if that were so.

actually they can be considered citizens if the parents spent a certain amt of time in the US after his birth.

correction I was off base on this one it depends on how long the parents were in the US prior to his birth.

Tebow's just a weeeeeee bit more Billy Graham than Tammany Hall. I don't really see politics in his future unless he thinks it can further the gospel better than being outside the political realm. He will leave the door open, but I just can't see him going that route.

Tebow's much more likely to spend the next 20 years after the NFL building orphanages around the world than trying to become part of the self-appointed ruling class that has ****ed up this country beyond repair.

Ah. In order to be governor of Florida, one must be 30 years old, and have lived in the state for the previous 7 years. I could see him maintaining an offseason home in Fla for that purpose. He could exercise huge influence from such a platform, including advancing his religious ideals. I see it as highly possible.

Unless he just wants to start a ministry, he's going to need a platform from which to wield influence and, frankly, power.

that's really a stretch. but if you're one of those people, and clearly you are, that thinks there are always ulterior motives behind the actions of those you dislike, i don't doubt you lay awake at night worrying about some far off future day when a person with good moral conviction and an unassailable character (such as Tebow) might somebody be elected to office to represent the wishes of their voters... gasp. the horror!

What does 'unless he wants to start a ministry' mean to you. Those were the words that precededed the ones you quoted.

I just see a political platform as wielding more real-world power and influence. Given the fact that he was in Focus on the Family Superbowl commercials before every playing an nfl down, I don't think he shies away from exerting influence.

I'm thinking Tebow is more focused on football, not a potential political career 15 to 20 years down the road.

And believing Obama is not a US citizen...that's 9/11 truther territory. Its insane, and factually wrong. Good grief. You could be right about 99.9% of everything else you say, but will automatically be discounted because you believe Obama is Kenyan.

And I do get a LULZ about politicians being smart. Too many examples disprove that.

And he's a natural born citizen -- the only requirement for President is that it be "by birth or blood." The only people excluded are naturalized citizens like Ahnold. (McCain was born on Panama).

If you think Tebow isn't bright then you likely aren't very bright yourself.

Being "book smart" doesn't make someone bright. In fact our education system is designed for that very purpose IMO. Make people book smart but completely incapable of really doing anything.

Tebow is a natural born leader... that's really what this country needs more than anything. I doubt the powers that be would ever let him get in power though.
