Welker, Bunkley, Colquitt, Prater. Lynch or Forte (if healthy), Landry. Possibly Shockey and Vincent Jackson but Tebow likes to throw most of his balls low to the ground and he might be way too tall to bend down that far to the ground.
Stephen Tulloch would be a good pickup for middle linebacker.

Dream scenario, gimme:

- Brent Grimes
- Rashean Mathis
- LaRon Landry
- Curtis Lofton/Stephen Tulloch

Everything else would be depth along the OL, DL and WR spots.

Kinda fun to dream sometimes.

Bolded. I multiple bolded in some positions simply because I can, and also because it would be a bit odd to sign 4+ FA RB's.

Benn Grubbs at LG. Relatively cheap signing that will vastly upgrade a weakness with Beadles and play every snap on offense.

Brandon Carr at CB.

Mario Williams but he might be out of our price range and we could go for Aubrayo Franklin but I would be okay with a safety here as well.

Plus resigning Bunkley/Thomas/Prater and some of our other key FAs.

Any money left over can be used to sign a veteran RB when Moreno gets cut.

Yeah, I have trouble figuring out who is truly available.

Broncos have a lot of needs, but the one area I'd like to see addressed in free agency is veteran WR. That's the one position where the Broncos have plenty of young guys to develop (so drafting in that area won't really help), but hey could really use a steady hand to backfill Lloyd and Gaffney.

I think the O-line needs upgrade, but maybe the answer there is draft. I think they need another running back, but they've got some vets, so maybe draft there.

Even DT -- hard to get lucky and upgrade there. Lightning struck once with Bunkley, and maybe Warren will be good. Probably should buckle down and draft there.

So the one position that the cycle is really right for free agency on is WR.

I could also see upgrading the Mike.

Wouldn't that make drafting a nice luxury! You could BPA and just "worry less". Knowshown's here one more year (from my POV), but man...if those moves were made - this team would be a lot of fun to watch.

I'd really love to see Vincent Jackson. I think he'd love to stick it to SD twice a year, and he would really fit in well with DT and Decker.

Michael Bush is another I'd love to see in a Denver Uni. If Hillis isn't asked to do to much and isn't asking to get paid to much, bring him back as well. Bush-Hillis-McGahee. Talk about a tough mean backfield.

Bring in the best RG available. Bring in competition for Walton while we're at it.

Yep. That is why lists that only give you their own view of the top 10-15 guys at a position are junk.

2/3rds of them never hit FA. I'm more concerned about the next tier of guys that this list ignored. Guys like Dan Connor, Tom Zbikowski, and Pat Sims didn't make this list and would all be very worthwhile targets.

BroncoBen

The majority of these players will re-sign with their current teams. The Broncos would need to target one or two players and put the full press on them.

I say go after Payton Hillis RB and Vincent Jackson WR.. as well as bring back a few of the Broncos free agents like Matt Prater and Britton Colquitt.

I am thinking this as possible. Taking in consideration the cap and needs.

QB- I was looking for a mentor type but non fit that criteria. Johnson can still grow and play QB in the same system if Tebow goes down. (Drew Brees isn't going anywhere)

RB- Either of Bush of Lynch would be awesome!!! I prefer Lynch...but somehow I think both their teams retain them. Plus we draft another.

WR- We need a competent veteran and Wayne is it. I Highly doubt this happens since he is somewhat attached to Payton. Ginn would replace Royal and I am sure he wont cost much, and he can stretch the field. We draft another. (Mike Adams or Chris Rainey)

TE- Finley!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! (Could be our most expensive acquisition). We keep developing the young ones.

OL- I think we are good here. We need more depth and a backup plan at C if Walton struggles in his 3rd. I think we could surprise people and select a C in the 1st round. Still think Walton will develop...but he is the weakest link.

DE- Either Jones or Bryant. Plus they can also play DT.

DT- Resign Bunk, Thomas, and Draft some talent. I think we have the rotation set. (Remember Vickerson and Ty Warren will be back from injury)

LB- Roth give us depth. Hope Nate Irving shows some development during the offseason. I think this is another position that could surprise us. Sign Woody and start him and trade DJ will we can still get something out of him. I think this unit made us very average against the run. Another option for the 1 rd pick.

CB- Grimes is still young and could thrive in the #2 spot next to champ. We need to get young and fast. Get rid of Goodman and draft talent. Another option for the 1st rd pick.

S- If the Broncos want him I think Dawks comes back for 1 more time. Still, we need a vet in case that doesn't happen. Landry is decent, and we have a lot invested in the S position. Still think Moore will be just fine.

K/P- Resign Prater and Colquitt....like....YESTERDAY!!!

Wow...after looking at that list and looking at our roster...WE REALLY HAVE A LOT OF HOLES TO FILL!!!

That One Guy

The one I'd like more than any other? Brees.

Beyond that, I think there's a few gaps on the team that make others look too inconsistent to even evaluate. Without being behind the scenes to manipulate things and see which is the common factor, we can't know whether QB or WR need to go but one or the other need to be gutted.

Bowlen is cheap..He won't spend money on good FA's.

Being millions under the cap 2011 season would justify this remark..the new CBA doesnt require teams to spend up to the cap yet..so Bowlen hovered way below it..

i think you can cancel out any free agent WRs coming here..they look at the recievers production (best 44 receptions) and run from that..WRs are divas and free agent WRs are even bigger divas. they want more production than 44 receptions..on the other side, they see if you become a pro bowl WR in Denver you will get traded anyways..

Five Offensive Free Agents Broncos Should Target

Posted Thu Feb 9th by Jon Heath

John Carlson -Tight End - Seahawks
John Carlson missed the entire 2011 season with a shoulder injury after catching 137 passes for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns from 2008-2010 in Seattle. If the Seahawks let Carlson walk, the Broncos may be interested in adding depth to their tight end position. With the team using lots of two-tight sets and tight ends that are asked to block as often as go out for a pass, the Broncos can always use more tight ends — especially when they are an upgrade, at an agreeable price-tag

Mike Tolbert - Running Back - Chargers
Mike Tolbert is a powerful runner that would provide a fantastic compliment to Willis McGahee in Denver’s backfield. Last season, quarterback Tim Tebow led the team with six rushing touchdowns (McGahee came in second with four). The Broncos need a hard-nosed power back that can punch it in from a few yards out. Over the past four years, that’s exactly what Tolbert has done in San Diego, scoring 21 touchdowns since 2010. With receiving option Knowshon Moreno possibly headed out of Denver, the Broncos may be in need of a third-down running back this season. Tolbert fits the bill perfectly.

Mackenzy Bernadeau - Guard - Panthers
Last season, the Broncos had one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, but they lacked depth in the trenches. With Chris Kuper recovering from a knee injury, the Broncos would be wise to bring in some veteran depth to the position. Bernadeau has started in twenty games since 2008 and played under John Fox and Mike McCoy in Carolina.

Shaun Hill - Quarterback - Lions
Shaun Hill is a veteran quarterback that could back-up Tim Tebow and give the team depth at the quarterback position. Having a veteran in camp is always a good idea, and Hill’s not the type of player that would cause fans to rise up against the starter in favor of the young and dashing fan-favorite second-string quarterback. Expect the Broncos to bring in a veteran quartebrack this off-season, Shaun Hill, or somebody else.

Early Doucet - Wide Receiver - Cardinals
Early Doucet is a young receiver with loads of potential. With receivers Eddie Royal and Matthew Willis about to become free agents, the Broncos will likely lose at least one receiver this off-season. In 2011, Doucet starting in six games in Arizona and hauled in 54 passes for 689 yards and five touchdowns. A trio of Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Early Doucet in Denver would be a young group with an extremely high ceiling.

I think Carlson is someone they should really go hard after. Really just about all of these guys would be good pickups, though Doucet can have the case of the drops too.

Focus our resources on RB and CB. We can add a Mike in the draft and build OL and DL depth in the draft.

Forte would be a dream fit. Bush, Tolbert, Lynch, and Hillis are all potentially good signings as well.

Marshall, Mathis, Finnegan, Ross, Rogers and Routt would be fine too.

Also probably need a safety in FA. Griffin is the guy I would target.

I think Mario Williams could be had. Would be a nice upgrade over Ayers. But the price tag would be heavy.

Bowlen has two playoff games worth of revenue... One obviously a home playoff game. I think I heard somewhere that the playoff games net him around $15m per. No idea how much they are really worth, but there should be some extra money available for FAs.

that write-up by Heath is pretty solid.....like Carlson and Doucet. Tolbert back there with McGahee and Tebow would make our backfield absolutely devestating. Tackling those guys in the 4th quarter would make defenses shudder.

For those who want Vincent Jackson.. He's a no-go. He played hard during maybe 10 games at the most last season. He put up some awesome numbers during those games, but a guy who's not going to play hard his entire contract season of all seasons. I just wouldn't trust. M Lynch showed up for his contract year, only. I wouldn't trust him.

Yeah, have to wait a little bit to see who actually hits the market. But speculating:

What I'm wanting to see is some ballhawks at LB and DB. Denver was 11th in sacks 2011, in a 3-way tie for 31st in INT's.

Nevertheless, if Mario Williams hits the market, that would be a good place to put some money. Offer him a huge 10-yr contract.

Of course re-up Prater and Colquitt, don't let them hit the market. Even franchise tag. Re-up Bunkley.

TE - maybe take a run at Fred Davis, might be better to stand pat, spend the money elsewhere.

OL - Wow, there's a lot of potential good pickups in that group at OG. Get the right one at the right price and that could help a lot.

QB - Jason Campbell.

RB - Forte certainly. Michael Bush certainly should be looked at.

WR - Marques Colston.

CB - Brandon Carr for sure.

S - I don't know who among those guys is the best choice, but we sure need some better safety play. The draft seems weak for safeties, the ones we have on the team aren't inspiring, so make a run at one . . .

LB - We need an MLB very badly. IDK if any of those guys are INT kind of guys, but I'll be happy with a three-down guy that can tackle.

That wish list above amounts to a bunch of money, won't all happen, no way, just wishing. They probably should sign 1-2 big money guys if they come available like Mario, Carr, Forte, Colston, Campbell.

I want Thomas DeCoud if we can steal him from the falcons that be great!

Ha. Why would you want him over our other defensive free agents like Abraham, Lofton, and Grimes? Even as old as Abraham is I'd put him as a priority for resigning over DeCoud. If you wanted one of our free agents, trust me, Lofton is the one you'd want.

I think this is a great point. I don't see any big name WR coming here unless Denver throws a tone of money at them. Most WR want to be in an offense that passes a lot and they can put up good numbers for their next contract. I don't see any WR putting up big numbers here.

And someone mentioned Reggie Wayne? Why in the world would Reggie Wayne come to Denver? An older receiver coming here to block? Can't see that happening. Same with Jackson. You think a diva like that is coming to Denver to block and be a decoy? Maybe someone like Ginn, though he doesn't like being physical so I don't seen him as a good fit. Finley? The Bronco's tight ends block, not catch passes. Attracting a good RB should be easy. WR? Not so much.

For our needs

QB: Vince Young, not the talent he once was but if Tebow is the starter there's no point in having a number 2 who cant run the same system.

RB: Dream move Ray Rice & Le Ron McClain. We need a more effective FB and McClain fits the bill. I think we need to add another back through FA or the draft, Rice would be the dream pick but Bush or bringing Hillis back would be nice.

WR: Most of you will hate this but De'Sean Jackson. Dont see it happening (infact i doubt any FA WR will look twice at us) but his skills would thrive in with Tebow playing a Percy Harvin type role taking the arounds etc. Failing that maybe take a punt on Ted Ginn Jnr but as i say its a tough sell for a WR to come here unless we draft them.

TE: Not a huge need but some et experience would be nice, maybe Carlson or Shockey.

OL: Good choice of centres who would be an upgrade on Walton, Satele would be my first choice. Hopefully pick up a guard who can start over Bedles.

DL: Avril has really impressed me this year and would give us a pretty good rotation at DE. Resign Bunkley and add Franklin as well and our d line looks menacing.

LB: Mays needs replaced and Irving isnt up to it. Morrison or Tulloch would fill that hole otherwsie its our strongest unit on D.

S: Dont see Dawkins coming back and if he does i think we'll see a drop iff in performance. I like our young safeties but some vet experience is needed too. Bring in Griffin to team with....

CB: Cortland Finnegan. Teammates love him opponents hate him the guy is an ass but he could be our ass.

I think our FA emphasis will be D not O where we will look to build in the draft

I would have to assume they're going to try to resign him, but Dimitroff might go the Patriot way and not overpay him. There have been rumors about going after Channing Crowder for Nolan's defense and we drafted Akeem Dent in the third round last year, so there's a decent chance he hits free agency.

Lofton is the one out of the three with Abraham and Grimes that makes the most sense to give a bigger contract to. I don't know that Grimes will accept a contract smaller than what we gave Dunta because he's been far and away the better corner, but we can't afford two corners with that kind of contract.

It won't matter what free agency looks like if Bowlen doesn't want to open his wallet. There's no excuse for keeping the team over 20 million under the cap. I did not buy Xander's excuse he made last free agency saying the team was satisfied with who they had, resulting in not many free agent moves. Granted this year is a better FA destination than last year. No one wanted to come to the train wreck here, including the 3-4 coaches who turned the team down

• Cedric Benson, RB, Bengals: On the surface, Benson’s numbers the past three seasons look pretty solid. He has averaged 1,173 yards rushing since 2009 and carried the ball nearly 900 times in that span. The problem is that he’s nothing more than an average back these days, a fact evidenced by his 3.9 yards-per-carry average and even more so by his 2.1 yards-after-contact number.

• Braylon Edwards, WR, 49ers: Edwards seemed like such a safe, smart play for San Francisco, which snatched him up for one year at just $1 million. Edwards could not even repay that investment, catching 15 passes and zero touchdowns over nine games. The 49ers got so fed up with him, in fact, that they waived him in late December as he dealt with shoulder and knee injuries.
Worse yet, no one thought to pick him up on the cheap then — which makes you wonder if anyone will pay up for the 28-year-old Edwards come March.

• Anthony Spencer, DE/OLB, Cowboys: There’s one way, and one way only, that Spencer can cash in a big paycheck after a mediocre fifth season in the NFL — and that’s if the Cowboys opt to use the franchise tag on him. It’s a move Dallas is reportedly considering, even if it’s borderline lunacy to fork over $8.8 million for the former first-round pick, who has 17 sacks over the past three seasons but has yet to take the leap to the next level while playing opposite DeMarcus Ware.If Dallas lets Spencer walk, he won’t make anything near that franchise tag price.

Jason Jones DT Tennessee Titans age 25

When healthy, Jason Jones is one of the league’s better interior pass rushers. He is a little undersized at 275 pounds, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed and acceleration. If he can stay healthy, he should produce 5+ sacks per year from the tackle position. This is a big need for the Broncos and he’s also an above-average run stopper.

Since he has been injured a couple times in his 4-year career, I think he would take a considerably lower salary than the top end defensive tackles in the league.

Thomas DeCoud SS Atlanta Falcons age 26

DeCoud has been a consistent and an above-average SS for the Atlanta Falcons over the past 3 seasons. He has averaged around 75 tackles and 3 interceptions each year. In 2011, he racked up 86 tackles and 4 interceptions. DeCoud is someone the Atlanta Falcons are wanting to resign, but they do have other needs that are higher up their list and believe they have a replacement for DeCoud if they cannot manage to sign him. If he hits the open market, I would suggest that the Denver Broncos jump on the chance to sign this youngster.

Tennessee Titans, Cortland Finnegan still at odds over contract

Written by Jim Wyatt The Tennessean 1:38 AM, Feb. 25, 2012

The Titans met with the agent for cornerback Cortland Finnegan on Friday at the NFL Combine, but no progress was made toward keeping him with the team, sources familiar with the situation said.

All signs still point to Finnegan becoming a free agent March 13. The Titans haven’t made him a contract offer, and indications are they have no plans to do so. They aren’t expected to use the $10.6 million franchise tag on Finnegan by the March 5 deadline.

Titans General Manager Ruston Webster and Vice President/Football Administration Vin Marino met with agent Terry Watson here on Friday. Webster and Marino could not be reached for comment, and Watson said via text only that the two sides “had a good visit.”

Finnegan, who recently put his Brentwood home on the market, is seeking more than the five-year, $48.75 million deal cornerback Johnathan Joseph signed with the Texans in July. That contract included $23.5 million in guarantees.

Earlier this week, when asked what kind of deal Finnegan was looking for, Watson would say only, “one that makes him one of the top-paid cornerbacks in the NFL.”

Before the start of last season, the Titans proposed a contract for Finnegan of roughly four years and $28 million.

Watson said earlier this week that he had submitted a counterproposal, but the Titans have yet to respond.

The Eagles’ Nnamdi Asomugha ($12 million per year), the Jets’ Darrelle Revis ($11.5 million) and the Broncos’ Champ Bailey ($10.75 million) are the three highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL.

Charles Woodson ($10 million) of the Packers is next, followed by three players, including Joseph, a Pro Bowler last season, making $9.75 million per year.

Finnegan, a seventh-round pick in 2006, told The Tennessean in December he would be “very upset” if the Titans used the franchise tag to keep him for 2012, but he also said he “wants to retire a Titan.”

Finnegan made $2.9 million in 2010 and $3.793 million last season, when he was the team’s fourth-leading tackler. He started every game over the past two seasons and went to the Pro Bowl in 2008.

Free agent QBs for Broncos, Chiefs

Jason Campbell: I could see the former Raiders starter in Kansas City. He played for Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn for two years in Washington.

Dennis Dixon: He could be a backup option in Denver if the Broncos are looking for a mobile quarterback.

David Garrard: He may be rusty after sitting out the 2011 season and he won’t be a top option. But he is an experienced backup that could fit in with either team.

Chad Henne: There has been talk Denver will be interested and he could push Tim Tebow. Kansas City could also be interested. He played for new Kansas City offensive coordinator Brian Daboll last season.

Shaun Hill: I could see him being on Denver’s list as a backup.

Josh Johnson: Denver could look at him as a backup to Tebow.

Byron Leftwich: Like Garrard and Hill, he is an experienced backup who could be interesting for Denver if other options don’t develop.

Kyle Orton: If he doesn’t get a better option, Orton could come back to Kansas City and try to take Matt Cassel's job.

Brady Quinn: I doubt he returns to Denver, but if other options don’t pan out in Kansas City, he could be looked at as a backup. He played for Chiefs’ coach Romeo Crennel in Cleveland.

Sage Rosenfels: Put him in the Garrard, Hill, Leftwich category for Denver.

Vince Young: Giving Tebow a similar backup would be compelling and you never know, maybe the light would finally come on for Young in Denver.
