We write this item not to create problems for our friends at the NFL. But our loyalty lies primarily to the millions (and, amazingly, there really are millions) who rely on us for information about the sport they love.

If you love the NFL enough to plunk down some jack for a jersey, replica or official, you probably should wait three months.

In April 2012, Nike takes over the apparel contract from Reebok. And on the day that the switch was announced in October 2010, Nike Brand president Charlie Denson told Darren Rovell of CNBC that significant adjustments are coming.

“We plan on changing the NFL jersey dramatically just like we’ve done with the college programs, using new thinking and the greatest technology available,” Denson said. “The NFL program hasn’t had the same type of advancement in recent years.

The looming change possibly explains why players like Vikings running back Adrian Peterson are contemplating a number change. Recently on his Twitter page, Peterson mused about shifting to No. 21 or No. 23. (Maybe Peterson knows something that cornerback Asher Allen, who currently wears No. 21, doesn’t.)

In past years, a player-initiated number change would have been met with a requirement that the player refund Reebok for the existing inventory of jerseys with the number he wants to abandon. With the new Nike jerseys coming soon, there’s a chance that it will be open season for the shifting of numbers.

Regardless of whether we’ll see players changing numbers, the jerseys apparently will be changing. And it would make sense to refrain from breaking out your change purse until the new designs are unveiled

the other way to look at this is that Reebok jerseys are going to be on the clearance rack very soon.

I hope we don't end up with the orange version of the Bulldogs' Power Ranger uni. ;D

Just be careful in assuming that the above quote is referring to colors and design. More then likely, Nike is referring to fabrics, elastics, cuts, seams and fit.

Personally, I would love to see a revamp of the current uniforms but I doubt this is the case. It's more then likely an upgrade to "how" the current uniforms are fabricated; I.E., where the seams are located, size and shape of fabric panels, etc. If new designs and color schemes were on the horizon then there would be some sort of leaked information regarding the changes.

Go Broncos! Go Elway! Go Tebow!

The teams that seem married to their traditional unis (Packers, Cowboys, Bears, Raiders, etc.) would freak the f out if the league handed over their unis to N*ke for a massive re-branding. Can't see this happening.

That sounds like a horrible idea.

Exactly. They are going to use that armor combat fabric crap they use on the college unis, but they are not going to redesign logos, etc. Its supposed to be a more durable, but more breathable, flexible, and lighter fabric. I bet the replica jerseys dont even change besides the Nike logo.

yep...that is all they can change.

....Teams are not allowed to change anything about there uniforms until they have league aproval. It took the Broncos two seasons to get orange jerseys back.

Do we know if our orange jerseys will just be "our orange jerseys" or new designs?

I would ask that people stop buying the Jerseys all-together. You don't need to waste your money on the NFL.

Not at that point in his career.

We also had an All World QB

True, but that "All-World Quarterback" rode Terrell Davis all the way to Back-To-Back championships.

by them saying changes to the jersey. are they meaning changes in the way they are stitched together and actually made while keeping the same look, or are they talking about a full on redesign?

because if it is just changing the way it is put together i don't really care and will buy up a handful of reebok jerseys when they hit the clearance rack soon, but if it is a redesign i may be a little more reticent to drop money on the outdated look.

As a frugal, bargain hunter, that is exactly what I was thinking. I will rarely buy a new jersey and cant remember the last time I bought one for myself but this will be well worth it. Best to show off "old school" anyways. Von Miller might be my very first purchase of a new player in many years.
