I have to give a Harbaugh team with Gore the edge in weather like this.

I think the Giants have better balance, at least the way their D has been playing.

This game promises to be ugly though.

I'm cheering on the 9ers not only to win here but I think with Harbaugh as their coach he has the best chance of beating the pats.

All right, one quarter to go. Who has the better chance of knocking off the Pats? I would think the Giants since they are the better passing team and could pressure Brady with their front four. It's hard to say, though.

I'm thinking either team can. Giants may be the better passing team, but SF can run the ball on the Patsies and keep Brady on the sideline.

??? is: who does the indoor stadium favor, the patsies or SF/Giants? 1st glance would probably favor the pats, but not so sure.

brom66an6

I don't get why they don't run on first down. You have 2 time outs. If you end up getting a first down, then you can use your time outs. If not, you run the clock out and don't give the other team a chance. Especially if you have a good run game like the 9ers.

I dont. Giants held the 49ers to 0-11 on 3rd down in regulation. They have a strong front four that will get to Brady. Eli's opportunistic and somehoew makes things happen.

Yup. The Giants have the best shot at knocking off the Pats....not the 49ers.

This is why I was pulling for the Giants today.

Eli got his ass kicked today (something like 6 sacks, 12 hurries, and TWENTY hits)......but he still threw for 300+, 2 TDs.....in a monsoon.

Eli should have a great game in a comfy dome. This Giants offense can keep up with New England.....especially considering that the NE defense isn't nearly what SF's is.

Go GIANTS!

He came back in when the Pats were down on the goalline for their last TD, but it may have been as a decoy.

Elway played in an era where QB's could get mauled, and WRs could get mugged. Now they can't. And Elway was tough as nails.....just took some VICIOUS hits.

I would argue that if Elway played in today's era......he would have thrown for 75,000 yards.....not 50,000.

And only one is on the team 2 if you count Harris coming back in Jan. as an injury replacement for Chris Kuper.

I think it's pretty clear that Jerry Reese is the best GM in the NFL. The guy is the best talent evaluator in the league. Hits on first round picks, hits on mid round picks, hits on undrafted players (Cruz and Ballard).

Bill Belicheck will get all the media attention about his Patriot Way, but Reese is the one who deserves the credit for building a great football team.

I like how people are using the rules changes against the Patriots, when it was their (completely legal, fair, just, appropriate, etc.) manhandling of the Colts that prompted the most significant reforms in the first place. he wins throwing by throwing for 5k yards or 50 TDs, he won with low key numbers and clutch play, he wins every year, and he is anything but soft. you can all kid yourselves into thinking he'd never win in the 80's or whatever bull**** you'd like, but Tom Brady would win now, he'd win in the 80's, he'd win in the 1880's.

Then you missed that game yesterday. Alex Smith didn't lose the game in any way and he was significant in the game against NO. He's not a great QB but he has maintained the game. Having a defense like the 49ers that's all you need. Baltimore did it with Trent Dilfer, TB did it with Brad Johnson. Baltimore's D right now isn't what it was. I'm sorry. There was NO WAY San Fran could have beaten New England.

Yeah, they have a great defense. But if you take Vernon Davis away, they have NO threats. Hell, outside of the two big pass plays for TD's to Davis.....Smith threw for LESS than 100 yards.

Belichick would have found a way to limit Vernon Davis.....and the 49ers would not have had a chance.

Giants have a GREAT shot to beat New England.

Oh I think they could have. Look at the problems NE had against Baltimore and their defense isn't as good as SF. And they have Joe Flacco at QB. Besides us NE only played two playoff teams this year, lost both games and they were against good defenses. Yes I think Manning gives the Giants and even better chance, but I think SF would have made it fun against Brady.

I guess I don't disagree. I think you overestimate SF's chances, though....maybe not.

Bottom line is this.....SF had the best defense to SLOW Brady....but the Giants aren't chopped liver, either. They have PLENTY of defense to give Brady fits.....and a FAR, FAR better offense than SF.

1. Alex Smith was AWFUL yesterday

2. I've seen enough of Alex Smith, thanks

Yeah, Baltimore won with Dilfer and TB with Johnson, that's great. That's two teams that have won primarily with defense without the QB to back it up in the last twenty plus years. But my point isn't even so much about winning the super bowl--it's about contending for the super bowl. Yeah, GB and the Saints were knocked out last week, but those are teams that will be back in this position next year. and the year after that. and the year after that. The game is built for offense right now--you try to play tight, defensive games every week in today's NFL and you will eventually break. You will get a bad bounce, you will run into a game plan you did not prepare for, you will run into a QB with a career day, you will run into a bad call. If you have Tom Brady behind center all of that stuff is normalized. You can get through anything. You won't always get through anything, but you can. The 49ers were +28 in turnover margin this year. That's absurd. They could trade Alex Smith and Michael Crabtree for Darrelle Revis and Jared Allen and that won't happen again. When you're a defensive team with a crappy QB, you play with an extremely thin margin. You will eventually run out of luck. Even Tampa and Baltimore, as I said, did not/have not gotten back, and those defenses were all time greats, while the Niners' current group is merely the best in the league.
