Should Tim Tebow be the Broncos' starting QB in 2012? [Poll]

January 16, 2012 | 8:06am

Tim Tebow's season ended with the Denver Broncos' 45-10 loss to the New England Patriots in Saturday's divisional round of the NFL playoffs. But that doesn't mean the wildly popular, yet extremely inconsistent quarterback is suddenly yesterday's news.

Tebow is sure to be the topic of much conversation throughout the off-season, particularly within the Broncos organization as vice president of football operations John Elway and Coach John Fox need to decide what to direction to take with the quarterback position.

The notion that Tebow isn't necessarily the automatic starter in Denver is sure to rankle the quarterback's devoted fan base, which will be quick to point out that he was 7-4 during the regular season and led the Broncos to their first playoff appearance and postseason victory since the 2005-06 season.

But his detractors will be just as quick to point out that a lot of those victories came despite poor performances by Tebow, who averaged fewer passing yards a game (124) than any starting quarterback during the regular season and had to rely on his legs and seemingly miraculous comebacks to pull out victories week after week.

The magic appeared to end with three straight losses to finish the regular season, but Tebow was spectacular in a wild-card victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. All of which sets up the Broncos' dilemma. Some say they should stick with the guy who got them so far this season and hope the inconsistencies go away; others feel they have seen enough and it's time to get someone more reliable in there.

One possible solution would be to bring in another potential No. 1 quarterback and have him battle Tebow for the starting position. Of course, that already happened this season with previous starter Kyle Orton and we all remember how well that went over with Denver fans.

How do you think the Broncos should handle the situation? Vote in the poll, then leave a comment explaining why you voted the way you did.

Yes but I would understand drafting a QB after the first round for insurance.

No insurance necessary.. that would be a waste of a valuable pick.

If you want insurance bring in a vet that can mentor him and if something happens with Tebow the vet can go in and manage the game. The last thing this team needs is another QB controversy anyway.

If people aren't confident in the coaches to develop someone with Tebow's abilities and work ethic then some thing is seriously wrong and it's not Tebow.

All Qb's with 16 starts struggle under real game pressure, including any rook they bring in for the next 16 games. Accuracy seems to be the reason quoted most often for replacing him. We led the league in drops. Would 5 more completions have made any difference in NE? The rest of the game, that so many young guys struggle with, is nothing to tebow. He's a keeper.

Yes and draft Wheeden in the 2nd. Behind Luck he is the most pro ready QB in the draft. His age is the primary concern with him and the only reason he will likely be available in the 2nd round. If Tebow falters and the time comes to replace him, Wheeden could get the job done and could potentially be the guy for the next several seasons.

Tim played the game of his life when his job was about to be yanked. I would welcome us drafting a QB, even as high as the second overall pick provided it absolutely was BPA. My preference would be to spend those picks on defense or at least speed. We have a slow team.

Tim should start, provided he doesn't totally crap his pants in preseason, and be allowed to continue his development through 2012. If there isn't noticeable improvement by the end of next year, he'll have three years, two seasons starting to get better. I would argue his improvement would need to be "stead" but necessarily other-worldly to avoid drafting a QB with the first pick in 2013.

What else is there to do? Right now he is the only QB on the roster. They will start Tebow, but I really hope they bring someone in capable of taking over if Tebow doesn't show any improvement.

Wheeden is also a college spread QB. He would have the same struggles running with 2WR's. Plus he brings 0 rushing threat. He would be a sitting duck in this scheme.

Rob, I must say you're the most prolific thread starter on the mane. Some of the ones you start are not bad but this is another one that has little value or no meaning to it. Who gives a damn what the readers of the LA Slimes think about Tebow? Honestly who gives a ****?

Anyway have you heard the saying that less is more? Be more selective about what you post you blot out the other good discussions that are really meaningful with this kind of junk journalism from a city that has nothing to do with our football team.

If the defense is executing well, Tebow's intangibles (threat to run) make him a VERY valuable asset...

LA Times = local failure. LA has not had a team in close to 20 years, there has not been a decent beat writer in about that long.

If we was to draft a QB in the fist round our front office should be kicked of the F-ing planet... Totally stupid.

I'd prefer to bring in a veteran to play behind Tebow, and just put Adam Weber in the #3 slot. It's hard to really develop two quarterbacks at one time, so a draft pick this year will be in limbo.

If Tebow doesn't show well in 2012, then draft one early next year.

We all know this is going to end in Drew Brees and Philip Rivers situation. Right about the time the Broncos give up and draft another QB, Tebow's going to put it all together and go into beast mode with that rookie on the bench.

The real issue is that the Broncos brain trust doesn't know how to adapt to Tebow.. this is why he hasn't put it together. Also.. the team hasn't put it together either. Anyone would look bad on this team.

Tebow may have been the only guy that could make it work even with all the issues they have because he could make the running game so good.

This topic is tired.

Someone inform the LA Times that they're about 3 months behind the story.

listen to this guy talk about not posting stuff unless you have sat down and really taken a good long hard look at what you wrote. Wouldn't wanna say something stupid like fantasy football qualifies you to be an NFL scout.... Wait didn't Mojoe say that?

would that not be a win-win situation then? I mean drew brees or philip rivers... it doesn't matter which 1 you keep they both win a lot of games
