Once the misery of this loss settles in, I think perspective will too. What a fun ride this was. I can't recall this much drama in a single season in my 30 years watching the team. (And that's saying something because drama follows this team.)

Thanks to coach Fox, Timmy, Mike McCoy, Dennis Allen, Willis, Champ, Dawk, VonDoom, the front office and all those who helped lead the resurgence of this team from 1-4 joke to playoff winner.

Should be an intriguing off-season and this team finally has taken some momentum into free agency and the draft, despite the lopsided loss today. (It's just one game.)

It's pretty clear what we need to do. It's also pretty clear we have some good pieces to build upon.

Thanks for the fun season, and here's to surpassing this in 2012/13.

One of my favorite Broncos seasons. I don't really remember the team ever overachieving like this and showing such amazing resiliency. The truth is, it wasn't likely going to end in a SB, nor is it ever fun when it ends. At least they gave us a lot of great moments.

Nice start to turning the franchise' fortunes around. I guess they stick with Tebow for 2012 and see how it pans out. Have to stouten up the D for sure. Didn't really have a good draft this year, have to do better. Franklin has been impressive at times, Miller was a solid pick, other than that, not much

I've been watching football my whole life and never saw a run like ours this season. The late game heroics and OT wins were a thing of beauty. I dont think anyone foresaw a Broncos division championship and playoff victory at the beginning of this season.... and certainly not 5 games in.

Tough L today... but it was an awesome season, indeed. I cant wait to see what next year has to offer.

Go Broncos.

Great season. Returned to the playoffs. Not many thought that would happen when this season started. Sandy Eggo, the Chiefs, Faders and Steelers were watching at home. This team has a lot of holes but was still able to rise to the challenge. That speaks volumes about the character of the team. We've got a great foundation. Just have to build on it.

Thanks to the Broncos players, coaches and personnel.

We got lost to a better team and we did a lot more than what it looked we can accomplish after 5 weeks into the season. It for sure does not hurt even after such a bad loss, wish we played a little better and were atleast in the game... but we did what we can. Thanks Broncos for a good season. Lets make next season awesome.

We have made progress ,and we have a long way to go.
Looking forward to next year, and the draft already. Hopefully we get some more pieces of the puzzle and improve again.

Most exciting season in a long time. We did some good things most the year and vs. Pitt.in the playoffs. Look forward for the young guys/ Tebow to get coached up in off season, and to the draft to fill key positions as well. I wouldnt mind getting a younger version of McGahee, and def. help.

Highs and Lows, It's what made 1997 so special. No Victory sweeter than one born from struggle. It's how the Broncos have always been and part of what makes up our identity.

We were told we'd win 4, we got playoff experience and hope, even if we were told otherwise. It was really a great magical year. Here's to next year.

We need to look at this team objectively...and regardless of personal feelings, if we can upgrade any position we need to do so....we have maybe 10 untouchables on our roster.

Keep in mind, the team's goal is to win a title....and if you cannot help us attain that goal, then thank you for service and good luck to you where ever you end up.

I think our biggest areas of concern are MLB... CB ... S ... TE ... WR. We also need to work on playcall development and fundamentals like tackling.

We need to also address our serious lack of depth....and a few of our younger players are standing at the crossroads of their careers. Overall, we still showed promise, and have some quality players who hopefully will take us to the next level.

Thanks for an exciting year Broncos!

And in one year made it to the final 8 with a division title banner in hand. Amazing stuff, really.

And, forgot to add, they did it with:

- a coaching change
- a QB controversy/mid-season change
- rookies starting all over the place in vital positions

all issues aggravated even more by a shortened offseason.

Just talked to my son who watched the game at friends house. He was a bit distraught, but even at his young age... he seemed to get that this season was far from a failure.
Most teams were sitting at home today. We had a chance to move on, and just were outclassed... for now.

This is the first time I remember taking ANY kind of momentum into an offseason in years.

Amen, DITTO all the way Popps! Am in 100%... was a thrill ride for sure and the spark is lit again in Bronco-Nation... The road is moving up from here and should be a blast to see the next couple years play out as we get all the pieces together to become a perennial strong challenger for the whole show again every year!

The last three months we're invaluable experience not only for all the players on this team and the fans but for EFX/Bowlen as well. The learned who was all in and who needs to hit the road asap.

Should help streamline the rebuilding choices in the coming few months as well.

Cant wait for FA and the Draft now! Bring it on!

And go 49ers in the meantime!

Also with you on the 9ers. Spent 10 years living up there and saw them win it in 94. They're my adopted, NFC team. So, happy to see them having a shot.

Great season, man. When was the last time anything that magical happened at Mile High? (Or SAF or whatever it is now.) The place was rocking. I can't imagine having attended that game. What a memory to carry forever.

Thanks Popps for the positive thread after such a disappointing game. It's real weird, I'm usually real dejected after games like this, but not tonight. I guess I have just put it in perspective and realize this game can't take away from the wild ride we had this year.

I really like the core of players that we have to build on. There is a nice nucleus of young players that can be developed. We really overacheived this year and that is a testament to the QB, players, and coach.

I am really looking forward to the offseason acquisitions and Tebow's development.

Not my favorite season to watch.. So many unknowns for next year. There were lots of great moments though. Seeing Sandy Eggo come back to Earth is encouraging.. For me next year will be a crucial year. Can Tebow adapt to a real offense? Will the coaching staff either let him sink or swim? How good can the defense get through free agency and the draft. In the end the team backed into the playoffs but showed there is enough talent here that they deserved to be there and weren't just a joke... Is this the beginning of future success, or are they the Seattle Seahawks from last year? Fun season at times frustrating at others... Thanks to the players and coaches!

+1. After the KC game I was bummed and it hung in my mind for a few days.
Tonight was really REALLY bad, and I blew it off before the third quarter was over. We came a lot further than we thought we could at the beginning of the year. I am eager to see what we do to get better next year, and I think we have some of the pieces in place, and a good core to build on. Hope the EFX can come up with ways to get better and not scrap all the progress.

Being in a divisional playoff game isn't closer than not being in the playoffs?

And it isn't next year yet. We made enough improvements this year to get to the playoffs, imagine what's possible with some more improvements. Kudos to the 2011 Bronco team, you brought back some emotions in me that I had almost forgotten about.

It was a great season considering what has happened the previous few years and the start of this season.

Obviously there is more work to do in finding more quality talent in free agency and the draft.

I am hoping the coaching staff will be less conservative with more talent on the team both on offense and defense, though with Fox, I am not certain that will happen to my satisfaction at least.

Great year. Many many UNEXPECTED highs! I think most of us expected some of the lows. But the highs were very sweet. The win streak. The comebacks. Beating kc, sandy eggo, and the fade in their own house! Seeing Willis taunt the fade fans was one of my favorite moments. A home playoff win! Its been a fun year!

I'm excited to see what we can do with a full off season and by making some upgrades on some positions. We are rebuilding on the fly and got some great experience for our young core players. After the pitt game I said the rest was just gravy. Its been a solid solid year and fully exceeded my expectations after a 1-4 start.

Yeah, I've never really seen anything like this team. On the one hand, considering the 1-4 start with the Pocket Sloth, we overcame some huge obstacles to have a great year, with some amazing moments along the way. On the other hand, we flat-out sucked for significant portions of the season.

Those kinds of up and down fluctuations are typical of young teams.

The Broncos had pretty much a skeleton crew out there against the Pats. I mean...we were playing Lance Ball at WR, and Lance Ball has already proven that he cant catch.

Never has a medicore 8-8 record been so fun to watch unfold. Now the reality sets in that this team still needs loads of talent.

They need to plan for some big moves in FA and hopefully hitting on that first round pick again.

Broncos are a little bit closer to a Superbowl but not alot.

They found a pro bowler in Miller, and maybe Thomas will also become one. Doom returned healthy and showed he can still rush the passer. On the oline they at least looked better coached this yr and Clady made it through the yr. So not a ton of progress but some. If we can add a couple more starters this offseason, maybe we can win a couple more games.

Still the big question is if Tebow can win in the NFL consistently. I don't think he has the weapons yet to answer that. Let's wait until it looks like the QB is the only reason we struggle.

I know we need front 7, dbacks, but we also need more speed, more weapons, more oline on offense. Tebow needs players who can make big plays when they get the ball in their hands. Fells/Rosario/Willis and to some extent McGahee who isn't really a big play guy as much as a tough runner who churns out yrds.

Broncos need a lot more at WR. I saw enough of Decker to feel he is a 3rd or 4th WR at best. You want to have a few guys on team like him for depth but we still need WR. I think we keep shooting for another killer wr and if Thomas works out then we have a killer pair.

TomServo
01-15-2012, 12:17 AM
we have so many holes...another big pick on D in the first round would'nt bother me. it seems O wins superbowls these days but WR never wins championships and unless its earl freakin campell you never spend a #1 on a running back like Mcd did.

cutthemdown
01-15-2012, 12:24 AM
Look how saints stockpile wr, packers also, that way when injuries hit you have guys to play. NE is sort of different, they some how do it with 2 great TE/oline/QB not sure you can copy that.

Still 1 TE who needs defense to account for them would be huge.

People forget Elway didnt match the numbers of other top qbs until he had Rod Smith, Eddie Mac, Sharpe, Davis and 2 HOF on the oline. Tebow doesn't have one player on there level yet. DT may get there, but no one on that oline will ever be Zimmerman, no TE is near Sharpe, TD, etc etc.

So yes Tebow needs to be better, but also yes he needs more help.

The defense has a ton of young players like Carter and Moore who go a crash course. Please people don't give up on them, hard to play dback, harder as a rookie, epically hard with no offseason to be coached up.

Our secondary needs to get better by Harris, Moore, Carter learning how to play, and finding some more corners.

But really IMO the 2 biggest needs are skill players who can put ball in the endzone on offense, and on defense, middle linebacker.

Joe Mays plays like crap.

First, Popps you are spot on with your analysis. I am already excited for next year, been ages since that was the case.

Second, the Pats actually did us a favor, there is no kidding ourselves about what needs to be done this offseason to get to there level, we are not their yet but building towards it. A close loss might have masked some of the areas we need to address.

Encouraged with the attitude change and never say die approach these guys took, that is something to build on. Bring on the FA period and the Draft...and Go Texans!

The difference between last few seasons and this season is that Raiders couldn't win the last game.
We scored 3 freaking points against KC that lost many starters.
I don't trust our coaches.
I Hope Elway fires Fox and Mccoy..

Bring on the FA period and the Draft...and Go Texans!
;D same here ... Broncos are going to be hell to deal with next year

I'm envious.... Bronco fans probably had the most fun in the league this year. The losing streak followed by the winning streak, the controversy, the astounding media hype, the 4th-quarter comebacks, the miraculous playoff win, etc.. If you were bored this season, you need to quit....

This. To be quite honest, this was probably the last year I was going to invest so heavily in football, because I had gotten tired of seeing the same crap from a heartless team year in and year out, combined with a lot of other factors.

After Tebow came in, football was fun to watch again, win or lose.

San Diego (twice), Miami, New York, Kansas City, Minnesota and Chicago were all amazing games to watch. Add to that the fact that I'm a Michigan State fan (4 years straight beating Michigan, last second win against Wisconsin, last second loss against Wisconsin, triple overtime win against Georgia for our first bowl win in 10 years) and a Tigers fan (going from favorites to place third to winning the division by 15 games), and this year in sports took a lot of years off my life.

But it was fun as hell.

as long as McD is with the pats we have an excellent chance of at least drafting a #1 that can start

Guess you missed Moreno starting in '09 and and Tebow and Thomas starting this year, and actually contributing alot to our playoff win over Steelers

2nd worst team in the league last year. 31st out of 32.

And in one year made it to the final 8 with a division title banner in hand. Amazing stuff, really.....AND beat the steelers in the playoffs. Nice!

Agree with Popps.

Last week kind of felt like a Super Bowl because of how low my expectations were for this season.

The Pats were a horrible matchup for Denver. Our team doesn't have the offense to hang with a top scoring team, and the defense isn't good enough to slow down that offense. I'm not really upset by the loss.

I just wanted to bump this thread up because it's the one that deserves the most posts today. I knew the talk would start immediately after the game about how to dismantle or build the team for next year, placing blame for the loss etc.

Monday morning I'm sure everyone in the Broncos organization will begin to go to work to address the problems in personnel. I just donít have the energy for hate and fighting today. Iím disappointed the game wasnít closer to be sure but it was a great season for a team that no one expected to get as far as they did. For that one factor Iím full of gratitude.

Pretty disappointed with the game last night, but overall, this team made for a fun season (after Orton got benched anyway). I like what they've begun to build here, it's just going to take a little more time to put together the pieces to compete for a championship. I'm okay with that though because they're heading in the right direction.

Was a great season and a lot of fun.

It's seasons like this when I'm so happy I'm a Broncos fan, not many other fans get to experience the highs that we were treated to this year.

I want to echo a lot said in this thread. Fantastic year.

For me personally it was my first year living in Denver as a season ticket holder, and going to 10 out of the 11 home games was so much fun. I won't forget the Jets game, the Bears game, and especially not the Steeler game for a long, long time.

I well never forget the awesome season Willis had for us.

People may forget that this was what he had to overcome to play in the NFL. Prior to this injury he was a lock to be a top 5 pick in the 1st round in the 2003 Draft.

People also forget he turned down a $2.5 million dollar insurance payout so he could entire the draft that year. He was taken by Buffalo in the 1st round with the 23rd pick all be it with a guy who had arguable the worst knee injury ever to recover from.

Willis is man, tough as nails and should be this yearís Come Back Player of Year. What a fantastic year he had for us considering the young OL ,his age and that banged up knee. What a warrior, thanks Willis.

I have the same feeling you do, this is one of the most exciting seasons I have ever had as a fan regardless of how it ended. It was a fun ride.

I think Von is going to come back pissed off next season. Just the way we went down in NE... coupled with his injury struggles late in the year. I think he'll have a nice chip on the shoulder.
