Champ needs to have a big game vs. New England's playmakers. I would love to see Champ moving around and playing inside vs. Hernandez/Gronk on a few key occasions. I hope Coach Allen throws some new wrinkles at the Pat's in order to stop them from killing us in the middle of the field. I am not scared of the WR's (granted we don't blow coverage like we did against OCHO in the 1st matchup). If we can stop the young TE's from exploding again, I see us getting off the field on 3rd down. Chris Harris will have to play a huge game, as will Q Carter.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the best way to slow down the TE's?

Draft a MLB who can play the middle of the field?

no MLB in the league could cover Gronk or Hernandez

Sure would help a lot though in designing zone coverages. Tell me that Mays doesn't put this team at a sever disadvantage against teams that feature their TE's.

No one's asking that.

We need someone who has more range and open space abilities than Mays who looks completely lost in coverage at times.

Well, blinding snow maybe.

Also, hope for food poisoning.

And pressure Brady up the middle/.

Woodyard def needs to play well, I don't think Mays has tackled well enough to warrant significant playing time.

I'd put in DJ, Haggan, Woodyard and Miller in most situations. Mays is too much of a liability. Miller roving and going up in the middle on most pass situations, occasionally DJ.

Our pass rush is going to have to get to and rattle Brady up the middle, early on. When he gets hit early and often he seems to have his worst games.

I'd take a nice strong and gusty wind over snow.

Double Gronkowski and take your chances with everyone else.

And freakin tackle this game!

Double Gronk with Bush/Carter/Bruton & a LB. Champ on Hernandez. Harris on Welker with a double at times from the other safety in the Bush/Carter/Bruton combo. Goody on Branch or Ocho. The other LB covers the RB out of the backfield. 4 man rush Brady with a combo of Miller, Ayers, Dumervil, Thomas/Hunter/Bunkley.

If we can run the ball like we did the first game, and put it in the endzone early and often... I think that defensive line-up can force one or two key stops and allow us to hang on for a close victory.

Nah.. wind is bad for our kicking game.. and it may come down to who kicks better.

I seem to remember Champ covering Gates exclusively and shutting him down. So, I think you do get him playing in the slot, in the middle of the field. Live with Goodman and Harris on the outside. Take your chances. Get Brady to hand onto the ball a second or two more. You also have to press their receivers at the line. Get them off their timing, away from their spots. You can't let them run free and Brady sit back there and pick you apart. You have to take the action to them and be willing to give up big plays on occasions. Hell, we'll give up big plays anyway.

this!

However, this puts Goodman on one-on-one coverage with no help from safety... not good as ocho is still celebrating in the endzone.

If the Broncos win, I bet it's because Champ has a HUGE game. We need him to play well.

Took the words out of my mouth. Brandon shut down Gonzo and Gates for us a few years back. Shame his knee got shredded, he was great in coverage.

Sure tackling is a must.
We need to turn Miller loose onto Brady.
Let him go after him time and time again until Brady breaks down...
That's what we've got Von for; rush the QB, that's what Elway wants...

I agree with you on moving Champ around. If there's any kind of pass rush at all, it increases the chance he'll forget where Champ is when making a split second decision.

That was a communication problem. I can't see Ocho or Branch beating Goody consistently enough for the Patriots to make a living on that side of the field.

Drop McBean into coverage from time to time, to make them think twice about the Welker short crossing route.

I would put Champ on Gronk and Hernandez, but mostly Hernandez. When Champ is on Hernandez, bracket Gronk with Woodyard and a safety.

Then I'd put Harris on Welker.

When Welker/Gronk/Hernandez are all on the same side, I'd switch Champ around.

I just think that a lot of QBing is done with pre-snap reads and when you move a DB that a QB would rather avoid around, it will take the QB extra time to make a decision.

I'd do a lot of stunts, twists, and delayed blitzes with Williams.

I'd do a lot of overloads and then drop linemen back away from the overloads.

I hope Champ picks off Brady again, runs it back for a touchdown, the win, and further solidifies his early entrance to Canton.
