"Ultimately, it's why you play the game — to be in big situations. With the awesome fan base behind you, which we'll have on Sunday, it will be a rockin' atmosphere and we'll be very excited as well."

True (and I'm by no means an Orton apologist, if you've read my posts), but this is also the guy who fans lambasted for basically saying his job is to win, not win over fans.

So which is it? Does he try to win and not care what the fans think? Or does he try to win over the fans and then get butthurt when they turn on him for not winning?

Let's be fair, Orton was given some undue criticism prior to the season. Turns out he earned it by going 1-4, but I swear, sometimes this fan base does make me ashamed of it.

As a football player (especially a QB), its part of your job to relate to the fans. This is something that Tebow relishes, but that Orton despised.

I'm with the guy who goes out of his way to make the fans feel involved. The guy who got a paycheck and barely showed up on Sundays, then belittled the fans can go try again somewhere else. He didn't handle it well here.

This. Dude can't win for losing. ;D Seriously though, get got paid to do a job which is what even he said, and he didn't do it so he was shown the door. Not sure why fans hate him so much. I still think he did what he could with the skillset he possessed so I have no resentment towards him, I just think it was time to try Tim since Kyle had hit his ceiling for what he could do with our team. And if Tim fails to do the job he's paid for, I will also wish him well and then look to a new option at QB.

Orton's problem was he was a known stopgap when he first stepped foot in Denver.

When you trade your starting QB for someone else's QB plus two first rounders, you might as well name that new guy "stopgap"

This compounded when a new 1st round QB (Tebow) was drafted. Then the losing ensued. Put together a preordained stopgap, a 1st rounder on the bench, and lots of losing... fans will start asking to see what the new kid can do, since nobody wants to pay to watch a stopgap lose games.

Most of it isn't Kyle's fault. But he didn't help with his heartless play and who-cares-about-the-fans stuff. Fans expect more than someone who's just cashing a paycheck.

As the Cutler trade went down, he was just thrown in on the trade at the last minute. I thought Orton was given a fair chance in Denver to win over the coaches and fans. Well he proved he was never going to get any better.. never gave me the impression that he could win a big game.

He wanted out.. the Broncos gave him wish.. now he has one last shot to give the Broncos a parting shot.. that is part of the game.

Will we see a Orton that gives the Broncos his best shot.. or the Orton that can't move the ball within the red zone.

Huh? Outside the 6-0 start, he was terrible! Always put up big numbers backed up with 2-3 ints with a fumble lost. They always seemed to be at the most crucial parts of games. Like when we looked like we were driving and taking momentum, boom an INT! The dude was boring and played uninspired football..terrible leader! Where have you been the last 3 years?

He makes stupid comments that are indicative of someone who plays for himself. He puts up the most fluff stats, many times because the team is losing, and then he starts talking about how he's had a good season even though the team is crap and his stats are fluff.

And then there's also his dismissiveness of the fans. Stupidly, he made these comments and dared the fans to come down on him if he didn't deliver. Needless to say, he didn't deliver. So they came down on him like a ton of bricks. He brought all of this on himself.

Kyle Orton canceled his Denver media telecon yesterday. Biggest story of the game on the KC side and he wimps out. Can't handle a few questions. The guy is a loser not just on the football field. Win games and the fans will like you. Lose 18 out of 24 and ppl think it's the fans fault. Tebow is light years ahead of Orton in terms of media presence.

I think Orton would like to be QB without the media attention and fan attention that comes with the position. Also, he could do without the leadership role that is typically tagged to the QB position as well. It seems he would like to play, get paid, and then go home. That is basically it. He couldn't handle the Bear fans on his case and the same in Denver.

Another thread about Tebow that has nothing to do with football. As far as I'm concerned if they had a QB that had a big arm, accuracy, the athleticism to escape the rush, and the ability to read the defense and make the right throws, he could be the biggest jerk in the world. He could call the fans a bunch of whiny babies. He could call me a POS, but if he was a playing great I wouldn't give a crap.

So Tebow kisses the fans asses? Lovely, but if he doesn't get better at playing QB the fans are going to stop kissing his.

Yeah, screw this promising young QB whose late game greatness has been the difference between 1-4 and 7-3. Having a shot to make the playoffs sucks. I would much rather watch a loser team going through the motions on their way to another pathetic season.

We can't just watch this guy develop and give him the same grace period that every QB gets...we must destroy him with every mistake.

And was so good he was benched for the playoff game. It's easy to win games with the top ranked defense in the league that gives up a whooping 12 ppg. So good an offense can score less than 17 ppg or 26th in the league.

At this point you should just stop saying. Might want to watch the KC - OKA game again to see your hero blow the game on the 13 yard line. FG wins the game for KC instead another red zone turnover

Yep. I was a fan of Orton when he was playing here - BECAUSE he was a Bronco, and I wanted the Broncos to win. While I personally didnt care for the way he played (deadpan in the red zone), but AT THE TIME, for the Broncos to win, he had to succeed.

I believe there were a lot of Broncos fans that were invested in his failure (like there are some Broncos fans that were invested in Tebow's failure). Ill never get that. Ever.

At the Chargers game, it was painfully clear that it was time for Orton to sit (I know, it was obvious before that too), but on the scramble play a "fan" behind me was screaming "ORTON CANT MAKE THAT PLAY" over and over... but it was a HORRIBLE pass, way over the head of the receiver. Our entire row was laughing out loud - of course Orton could throw an incomplete pass. It had became about the personalities, not the result.

Im glad Tebow is in... and has played well. Its fun to go to a Broncos game again. Even the NE game was a blast. Chicago was off the "Holy shiet" meter.

As for Orton, I cant wait to see him made into an Orton Sandwich between Doom and Miller. Hope they knock him into another dimension. But I wanted to see that with Brady too... :~ohyah!: Im STILL watching the Doom hit on Tom Terrific. That was my favorite moment of the game. I'm guessing that will happen a LOT more with Orton than Brady. Cant wait.

To be fair, Tebow has had a great run. I don't recall Jake or Kyle having any problems with the fans until the real struggles started. The fans in Denver can turn on a QB like few other fan-bases. It just comes with the territory. But, I do recall a flap during the preseason where Tebow said he felt like his starting job was ripped away from him. The fans didn't appreciate that much at the time.

Point is, things are pretty rosy for Tebow right now. He's also just a smart kid and is giving smart answers. If he has 6-7 bad games and the fans are boo'ing him, I imagine his answers might change more to the nature of... "I'm playing for my coaches and teammates first," like prior QB's have said.

Tebow is a great prospect and very easy to root for. But, I'm of the belief that our last few QB's wanted to win games as well. Even Cutler, who is as douchey as they come.

This is a great post. I never got the whole Orton-hate thing. He has limitations. He's not a top tier QB. But, he's serviceable under the right circumstances... which we certainly haven't provided ANY of our QB's for many years. Tebow has limitations as well, but I don't hate him.

I'm with you... it's hard for me to hate Broncos players without a very significant reason.

I hold no grudge against Orton... I just don't care about him at this point. I do hope we destroy him this weekend though.

I don't remember the fans getting to worked up about starting Teebs last year, although I was glad to see him start the last 3 as it became clear we needed to rebuild.

The reason fans were so rowdy this year is the offseason bait-and-switch the front office pulled in going back to Orton. Fans were already on board for a rebuilding year. But rebuilding means playing your young guys with a Broncos future.

Instead, EFX turned the page back to the known-stopgap guy playing in his last contract year. The only reason you would ever do that is to win games.

When the wins didn't follow, the fans rightly expressed their frustration.

Turd_Ferguson

Yeah, screw this promising young QB whose late game greatness has been the difference between 1-4 and 7-3. Having a shot to make the playoffs sucks. I would much rather watch a loser team going through the motions on their way to another pathetic season.

We can't just watch this guy develop and give him the same grace period that every QB gets...we must destroy him with every mistake.

Right?

I'm with you, man.

I never said any of that. I said whether or not he tells the fans he loves them has nothing to do with him being good at QB or not. If he doesn't get better the fan base will turn on him, and being the nice guy he is he will still be nice to them as they run him out of town with pitch forks and torches.

If he does get better, he will be in Denver for the next 20 years and can systematically take each fan out to a nice dinner at Elways, so that each fan feels appreciated.

Orton was the clear winner of a competition for the starting job, which coincidentally happened right after the Miami trade fell trough. Also, that was rain and not the front office pissing on your leg.

Tebow works to get better and listens to his coaches. he also has a better winning percentage and td to int ratio and is a better runner.

Again, the TEBOW only fans come out in full force at the slightest criticism or unflattering remark....

Tebow struggles and they flood us with their laminated excuse chart of no OTA's, shortened training camp, new coaching staff, bad coaching and gameplans, playcalling, only 13 career starts, etc....etc....

But any other young player, like Moore, Decker, Moreno, Thomas, etc...despite having most or all of the same obstacles/handicaps as Tebow has, and they're generally labelled as crap, busts, worthless, and they're given little or no patience to develop, or recover from their injuries...most have been written off by the Tebowites.

You can call anyone else a cry baby....with no evidence of them ever having actually shedding tears....but state an actual fact (many youtube hits) of Tebow crying after a loss, and you're a hater of course.

You can call anyone else a cry baby....with no evidence of them ever having actually shedding tears....but state an actual fact (many youtube hits) of Tebow crying after a loss, and you're a hater of course.

What do you expect?

You make a childish and completely pointless dig at Tebow and then try and take some sort of high ground when people call you out on it.

If I was an Eagles fan and slipped in "Vick is a dog killer" into every post I made regarding Vick, would you expect people to take my opinions seriously? Would you expect people to believe that I had no bias when discussing Vick?

After all, I would only be stating a fact...

Because it has no relevance to his ability as a football player and including it in a football discussion would only show my bias against him.

So Tebow doesn't need McGahee, and the defense to play well?

Yet another Tebow is the only reason we won a game post by a Tebowite....why am I not suprised?

I think if you actually read my posts you wouldnt ask this.

Don't disagree with the stats bit, but frankly as far as his making stupid remarks or dismissiveness of fans, I truly gather Kyle was trying to make the safer remarks, that by saying he plays for a pay check, that he was trying to say he was not impacted by fan's comments, that he played his best regardless of fans bulletin board comments which I would hope for in my QB to be honest. I don't want my QB's ability to play impacted by a bunch of people angry and amped up and making comments. I want one who keeps a cool head and does not panic. HOWEVER, having said that, HE DID NOT perform and so he lost his job as was right. At any rate, that was my take on his remarks. Leaving Denver was on his poor performance, that I agree, but as for the contempt of the fanbase, ehh, some of that is the highly emotive and reactive nature of fans and on the FO for poor handling of PR in the last few years. I still maintain he did NOT request a trade, Jay Cutler did (and yes I know why he did, but nonetheless the trade is on Jay, not Kyle).
