Seriously, I think that they are just doing this to tick people off. Polititrolling, per say. Otherwise, I can't really explain why someone would do something so unyieldingly narcissistic.

"(CNSNews.com) - The 63-foot Sierra White Fir lighted at the U.S. Capitol Grounds on Dec. 6 as the official 2011 Capitol Christmas Tree includes a prominently displayed ornament paying homage to President Barack Obama, but includes no ornament readily visible to a person standing near the tree's base that uses the word “Christmas,” or includes an image of the Nativity, or bears the name or image of Jesus Christ."

Although the Capitol Christmas Tree, as it stood on the morning of Dec. 19, included no readily visible ornament that mentioned or depicted Christmas or Jesus, it did include one ornament that pointed to the Bible and Psalm 19.

Few things here.

One, repeated use of "readily visible", which makes me think these people are scoping the tree with some binoculars which is about as bananas as I have come to expect these days.

Two, they have been unable to spot a reference to Jesus, but have spotted at least one Biblical ornament. Not good enough.

Three, saying a Christmas tree has no visible respects for Christmas is literally one of the most retarded statements I have ever read. It's actually just kinda amusing by itself, but the article repeats it over and over and apparently no one went, "Wait a second..."

The determination to be offended is really quite impressive.

Goes both ways. You can imply the people looking at the tree are obsessive. But somewhere the order was given on high not to include any ornaments that refer to Christmas. Which is creepier than looking at the tree.

Yes, it's very peculiar that there are no references to Christmas on the Christmas tree.

Likely more to do with this silly "don't want to offend anybody" type nonsense despite it being just a tree. This country was founded to do the will of the majority, not cater everything for the minority, yet it is dummies like Obama and his fellow liberal nut jobs that think the opposite and like to tell everyone what they should do or think even though they don't practice what they preach.

Absolutely.

What non-Christians do not understand is that Christians have become perceptive to these kinds of things because they have increased exponentially over the past decade. They are unavoidable.

Of course non-Christians are not perceptive when these things are going on in their environment, because they are obviously not concerned with them.

As I've said before, you're in the same position as white Anglo-Saxon Protestant straight males a century ago.

You're not the apex of humanity, much as you believe you are. There's a whole ****load of us who aren't white and Anglo-Saxon and Protestant and straight and male who aren't going to be shoved to the back of the bus any more.

Yeah, I was a little confused by the "X", thinking that it may be a reference to Atheism (Athiesm-mas) or Islamofascism (like "x marks the spot for a suicide bomber"), but then I realized that it was an abbreviation. ;)

and my country never extended unemployment insurance, you guys are the real socialists, even in tough times 40 weeks is more then enough time to find a job, it may not be the job you want, or the job you need, but there is no reason for anybody that wants a job to not have a job.

The christmas tree did not originate with Christians. It was adopted by them, just like they co-opted popular holidays in order to "sell" their religion.

King Tut never saw a Christmas tree, but he would have understood the tradition which traces back long before the first Christmas, says David Robson, Extension Educator, Horticulture with the Springfield Extension Center.

The Egyptians were part of a long line of cultures that treasured and worshipped evergreens. When the winter solstice arrive, they brought green date palm leaves into their homes to symbolize life's triumph over death.

The Romans celebrated the winter solstice with a fest called Saturnalia in honor of Saturnus, the god of agriculture. They decorated their houses with greens and lights and exchanged gifts. They gave coins for prosperity, pastries for happiness, and lamps to light one's journey through life.

Centuries ago in Great Britain, woods priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter solstice rituals. The Druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and placed evergreen branches over doors to keep away evil spirits.

Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or just outside their doors to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree evolved from these early traditions.

Legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. One crisp Christmas Eve, about the year 1500, he was walking through snow-covered woods and was struck by the beauty of a group of small evergreens. Their branches, dusted with snow, shimmered in the moonlight. When he got home, he set up a little fir tree indoors so he could share this story with his children. He decorated it with candles, which he lighted in honor of Christ's birth.

The Christmas tree tradition most likely came to the United States with Hessian troops during the American Revolution, or with German immigrants to Pennsylvania and Ohio, adds Robson.

But the custom spread slowly. The Puritans banned Christmas in New England. Even as late as 1851, a Cleveland minister nearly lost his job because he allowed a tree in his church.(And now they're calling out Obama for his decorations Ha!) Schools in Boston stayed open on Christmas Day through 1870, and sometimes expelled students who stayed home.
