Is living off the Grid now a crime?

Apparently living off the grid, off the land and without government assistance is now a crime that can land you in jail and cause you to lose your home.

Government officials across the country are forming so called “nuisance abatement teams” to intimidate people into giving up their land or conforming to the governments demands and hooking back into the grid. Counties across the country are actually jailing people for living the way they want to live.

I was alerted to this video by a reader and was troubled and sickened by what the poor people in the California Desert are being forced to deal with. From being threatened with jail time if they don’t hook back into the grid to being thrown in jail because the county didn’t like the look of their homes, the people in the deserts of Los Angeles County are being terrorized by their government.

This is one of the oldest stories in Los Angeles. Ever see Chinatown? In L.A. this is so common it's become stereotypical. I'm sure there are developers who want the land, have paid off the county bureaucrats, and will use government power to seize the land. When it comes to land or water, nowhere is as corrupt as Los Angeles.

Again more evidence that the trend is toward statism and very little about keeping the world "green." One of teh very first acts of this administration was to attempt to make it less likely for folks would donate to non profits, why -- because it takes away from the monoply Big Brother has in creating dependants.

Bzzzzzzzt!

Sorry, Bob (and TJ) - wrong answer.

The "state" you're attacking is just a straw man.

It doesn't exist - except as a proxy for private interests.

The whole state of California has a screwed up govt. Locally you get the LA County liberal goons, corrupt, selfish, and then the OC right wing nazis. Then of course the most wacked out liberal state govt the country has ever seen. But the weather is nice so what the hell.
